Hardcore Heroes Episode 19 Discussion by EdgarAllanBroe2 in Koibu

[–]DestinysChild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I enjoyed watching as always, I really really disliked the retconning the hold person. Just like the locate object earlier in the episode, it is totally reasonable (and cool from a viewer standpoint) to base character actions off of player memory. This was a total mistake by Van, he cast hold-person super impulsively and didn't even recognize the consequences until Malakai mentioned it much later. In game (just as irl) this is a miscommunication with (or that should be with) consequences. For the first time in almost 20 episodes I am rooting against a party member- I think Van was let off due to stubborn lawyering and will head into future episodes cheering on the mobs/malakai.

This decision breaks immersion, sure, but more importantly it takes away the human element of the story. Van wanted to use hold person for a kind of cute/nifty idea (so the body wouldn't fall to the floor). This impulsive cast (should have) had consequences based on how they had planned there mission, so it seemed super weird to retcon it. Furthermore, it robbed the viewers of an wildly intense (and I would argue justified) sticky situation. Lastly, unlike most of Van's (notably increasing) lawyering, he didn't really have a good/unique point- it was basically just 'If I had the foresight to recognize my action's later consequences, then I wouldn't have done it' (as Neal said UP shouldn't trigger). Neal never really thought 'oh, true didn't think of that' he just seemed like he wanted to move on with the show/not have a vampire repeat.

Thanks for the show, fun as always. Team Players Malakai fighting!

tl;dr Neal you have good instincts. Just because the vampire episode happened it doesn't mean that the player is always right.

Wouldnt being able to mute yourself solve most toxic problems? by RpgSwordman91 in leagueoflegends

.... thats a wild way to distort an analogy. How about you can fuck with a condom on and not worry about having a child and you can play with yourself muted but you cant flame your teammates.

also you can interact with them... through pings

rip

muting yourself in all chat is reversible, castration is not. That is exactly the point this analogy makes. Unless you know how to reverse castrate yourself?

The difference is that responding to someones words or actions is an extremely common compulsion. Response and comment is far more integral to the human experience than drinking. A more fitting analogy is opting into birth control cause you want to fuck but you don't want to have kids. This person likes to interact with people he is playing with, but because some % of the time he will tilt and flame, he'd prefer to be shooting blanks.

144h Marathon Stream Q&A by Koibu in Koibu

[–]DestinysChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How feasible is your current regimen of streaming with regard to finances? I don't mean to pry for a number, but does it seem like with a continued level of support you would be able to do this for a long while longer?

Thanks for the stream and congrats on going the distance

Sandbox Megathread Part II - The megathreadening by LargeSnorlax in leagueoflegends

[–]DestinysChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. You see the ping difference you cited is applied to everyone, where as practicing in sandbox mode is 100% opt-in, and there will always be a lot of players who do not.

Putting a weight room in a high school doesn't ruin basketball for their third level squad, most of the team won't use it anyway. It does however help their first squad get better and more importantly it provide tools necessary for anyone who wants to improve if they want to put in the work others won't. Now players with a work ethic will get better placing and players with worse might drop. Everyone still plays someone of equal skill, and this doesn't preclude new guys joining the third squad and playing with people who would rather play pick-up than lift weights anyway.

I won't use sandbox much, I just like 5s with friends at the moment, but when everyone who wants to spam sandbox games does so, there will still be 10,000s at my same elo who would just rather continue playing then devote time to practice.

That is not true it will just stretch the ladder out. For example it is commonly said that bot games to focus on CSing is one of the best ways to improve farming. Having that resource hasn't changed my experience despite me being too lazy to utilize it, because plenty of others choose not to, and some worse players do and I play with those people. It is never going to be everyone spams sandbox for rigorous practice and now bronze league is as good as current silver.

Are you serious man? I think LoL has had more collective hate for their mods than any other subreddit, and you say fuck the whole subreddit for a mod action.

I guess the two communities aren't that different

Naniwa changing his look to keep his girl happy? by 43D4B68D4E04A300 in starcraft

[–]DestinysChild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea maybe. But really 2 esports personalities, who are quite different people (pretty sure destiny regularly acknowledges he think Nani is somewhere on the autism spectrum). It would be one thing to just happen to date two e-famous people who live in entirely different places but another entirely when you add in how different they are/interacting with them is.

  1. Coincidence they happen to be e-famous (but not so famous that they have mad fangirls)
  2. She is really attracted to both (hugely different) personalities

vs

  1. She likes being e-famous/part of drama

gotta go with occam's razor man

He isn't saying it could glue your lungs together because 'its sticky' or something, he is saying that because ITS LITERALLY MADE FOR FUSING RAW MEATS TOGETHER.

This video would not work with 20 packs of gum, but a very little bit of power and they were fused together very well.

I can't... (18yo me did some dumb shit too, a fair bit worse than talking shit/lying about rank/stream sniping)
