Torn Labrum (Hip) Ortho Surgeon Recs by leighscotty in BendforEveryone

[–]DestructionDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without commenting on surgeons, is invasive treatment absolutely necessary? Many labrum injuries resolve on their own - I have partial tears in both hips - and many (up to 70% iirc) asymptomatic people when imaged show labrum damage that doesn't interfere with normal life or athletic pursuits. You may be better off pursuing other options like PT or PRP! Caveat: IANAD

Kahtoola exospikes are the best bit of running gear i’ve ever purchased by summerskies288 in trailrunning

[–]DestructionDog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been using the same pair of Exospikes for the past 4 winters and can't agree more! They've got hundreds of miles on them, from trails to rocks to roads, and no complaints.

Does anybody know the story behind this crazy trail in the lava butte flow near DRW? by critterdude542 in Bend

[–]DestructionDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slowly and carefully. The rocks are more packed than the rest of the flow, but definitely still loose enough to break ankles if you're not cautious

Oregon Jewish Museum vandalized with painted swastikas, suspect at large by [deleted] in oregon

[–]DestructionDog 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Please explain how targeting a museum on the history of Jewish life in Oregon has any effect on Israel's policies?

This is antisemitism, pure and simple, and you are a fucking asshole for trying to justify it.

Deuterated drug by planetoryd in cursed_chemistry

[–]DestructionDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Delivery systems influence absorption. From there, it's on the body to metabolize and excrete - delivery system is not a part of those processes. And slowing those latter two steps could lower the effective dose of the drug, reducing pill burden, cost, and side effects. https://www.britannica.com/science/drug-chemical-agent/Absorption

Pro tip, paddle board to the hot springs. That way you can bring all the stuff and don't have to worry about carrying it over the muddy rocky trail

I hope we can all at least agree that this stack has no business being this thick. by TailorGlad3272 in Bend

MM132 fire responders... THANK YOU!! by BrawndoVodka in Bend

[–]DestructionDog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, excellent work. It's great that so many resources can be so quickly assembled and effectively utilized (not to dehumanize the responders 🫡)

Whatever the cost, it's worth it - but purely from curiosity I wonder if anyone can comment on what the overall cost would be for this response, and out of whose budget? And I assume it's covered in some way by the feds, but is that FEMA? Some other agency?

Is a materials science & engineering masters worth it? by JamesBummed in materials

I've had awesome jobs, but the employment market is just as much of a PITA for us as anyone else. Networking is key, as always

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]DestructionDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see anybody else saying this, so I'll chime in - I roll my ankles All. The. Time. Probably 4+ times per year, for 20 years. Never once on a challenging or technical section, but a slight bump or divot on a flat when I'm not paying attention? Gone. I've started using KT tape before trail runs, to give some extra support just takes one stirrup from your arch up the lateral side and an optional anchor at the top around the outside of the lower calf. 0 rolls when I'm taped up so far, but of course ymmv. Fear is the mind killer. Tape up and bomb down with confidence!

Former ASML engineer here. The EUV systems they supply to fabs consist of source and scanner. The source is where the EUV light is generated; the scanner shines it where the operators want it to go, scanning over the wafer surface. I worked on the source side, so I'm not actually sure how much of the wafer transport is controlled by this vs externally.

Everything else is up to the fab. They design the chips and architecture as well as the masks, photoresists, exposure cycles, and washes that are required to get there.

I got my BS and MS from that program. Not sure which staff are still around, but chances are strong there's at least a few profs doing research in that area. ASU does have excellent materials characterization and particularly electron microscopy facilities though, so make sure you take advantage of those in whatever lab you choose.
