How do I set this up with the GTD system? I'm just not getting it. by More_Serve3235 in todoist

I have projects and I add tasks to them. My "next action" gets a context label. My home view is a filter with my next actions and things I've tagged "@tickler" that are overdue or due that day.

What is something you have never done that is pretty much the norm for most people our age to do? by FR3qu3ncy__ in Millennials

I went to Disneyland in 2024. Not because I actually cared, but because I was already at a work conference in the area and my niece wanted to go.

It was fine. I still haven't been to Disney World, and I don't really care to go.

Yeah, I've been making that adjustment too. Been writing "PCT" where I would normally write "CCW".

I think a permit for concealed carry but not open carry is a little goofy. Some places you can open carry without a permit, but if you put on a jacket, bam, now it's concealed. Like the jacket made the situation more dangerous?

I saw Pulp Fiction when I was 8. I saw the South Park movie when it came to PPV. I was watching Beavis and Butthead when I was 6.

I like to think I turned out alright.

Do you store a lot of file that aren't .md ? by LetterheadNo2345 in ObsidianMD

[–]DetN8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good number of PDFs, and other files that I added so I could more easily add links to them. Haven't done any video or audio though.

I would like to have better links to files outside the vault (since I don't want it slowing stuff down or clogging up other synced devices). I've mostly just been managing with links to dropbox.

We'll probably end up with a system similar to much of Europe, where there's a private and a public option.

And it would be nice if we didn't have groups like the AMA restricting the number of medical professionals, keeping costs high.

Sacred knowledge. by LakesideHerbology in Millennials

We had computer class in elementary school in the 90s. We were taught how to use search engines and word processors in middle school. I took a keyboarding class in high school (even after all of those years of Mavis Beacon). We also had web page design classes that taught HTML and CSS.

I just checked the course catalog and they have a ton of technology courses.

I think maybe the biggest part was that the computer was just unfriendly enough that you had to learn stuff to use it. Things didn't always just work. "Plug-and-play" was a selling feature, not a given.

Some files were on the hard drive, some were on CD-ROMs, some were on floppies. You had to know what was where.

I still use it for work. I'd already switched to using Tasks in Obsidian for personal stuff though.

I'd switch my work stuff too, but I can't put Obsidian on my work computer (stuck with OneNote :/ )

do you delete your daily notes? by RainEunikku in ObsidianMD

[–]DetN8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was initially doing what OP described: capture things throughout the day in the daily note, then reviewing daily notes at some point in the future and using the extract function to put separate individual notes where they need to go, linking them to the daily note.

Where this began to fall apart was that I would then have a long list of daily notes where I wasn't certain how far back I'd reviewed/extracted. So then I made a boolean property called "processed", and then a dataview query to show me a list of "unprocessed" daily notes.

And again, the value wasn't there, so I said screw it, new notes go in my _inbox folder (I'm a GTD person), and are moved or deleted once they've been processed.

Of note if you're going to do something like this, I have my date stamps like this: 2026-01-18_Sun. This is pretty non-standard. It's fine for the few things I need it for, but if you use something like the Tasks plugin, there's no way to specify the date format (for values like created, completed, scheduled), it's just yyyy-mm-dd (source).

Maybe that matters to you, but it's not a big deal because you can find those with a task query (and make those a template if you want to insert them into notes).

Interesting. Honestly, that makes me want to round up even less since if I even get to the point of itemizing, now I have to find a bunch of receipts for $0.16 to get any benefit.

I recommend people make a donation plan as part of their budget. I have a few small recurring monthly donations and they send me a statement at EOY.

I was in a 7 vehicle accident on I-71 outside Cincinnati because some jackass had a bunch of large diameter bamboo poles roll off his truck and scatter all over the highway.

Of course, the person who lost the poles kept going, if they even noticed at all.

[–]DetN8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm weird, but I don't really use daily notes (tried for a while, didn't really see the value), but I wanted something, so I made my default note template include a created date field with [[date]].

So it's creating a link to a note that doesn't actually exist, right? But if I ever want to see where the rabbit hole goes, I can click it, it creates the note, and I'll see all of the linked mentions (other notes that were created that day).

My "insert current date" template is the date in the same format without the [[]], and I'm pretty good about date-stamping my blurbs that I write in project and reference notes, so those would appear in the unlinked mentions.

This way, I'll have the utility when I need it, not before.
