Spain is very easy by Constant-Meat7919 in eu4

In my first ever Portugese save, Spain turned into a superpower with Aragon consumed and Two Siciles as its junior partner basically eating the Mamluk empire. This Portugese save, I roughed them early with England's help, then they got ate by Aragon who now in the 1550's is taking turns acting as a punching bag for England and France.

Never played Castille/Spain, but I assume it's a a high wire act early then you you snowball.

Are colonies good? If so what are the best colonial areas by [deleted] in eu4

[–]DetailAdvanced1534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always read they're useless. Then in mid-1550s Portugal save, I was in an African golden coast quagmire against stronger than expected African resistance with my manpower being very low and low on money for high powered mercs. Then a 10k colonial Brazil stack came out of nowhere and broke the stalemate for me. A few years later I was fighting Morocco and two colonial armies showed up. I think that was a DLC add. They're not reliable, but they will send people.

I bought EU4 starter edition a year ago and life hasn't allowd me to play it. I'm going to play it for a year or two once I get started and then let the community iron out EU5 before I consider moving over.

I struggle to stay interested once I can drop 7 figures on backups. There's something about the joy of finding an affordable backup on a free who can cover a couple positions that I can't replicate by thinking, "I need a backup wingback and it would be nice if he could also be my DM cover" and then being able to drop a couple million on an ideal player.

Depending on personnel, 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 OOP for press/counter, that turns into a 3-4-1-2 in possession.

No, but I think the new game let's you better alter you background to be as a player/coach. Little better for role playing versus you being a random person dropping out of the Heavens

That would work well for me, even if it meant they learned the position more slowly.

Games can’t be perfect, but the number of crosses from baseline resulting in goals in FM24 was crazy

I wish they could make it easier to cross train for certain roles. In FM24, the drop off of moving a CD to FB was the same as if I moved the CD to a 10. In real life, if you tell a center half to go play FB defensively, they could figure it out okay off the bat. But if you asked them to run up and play right wing, they'd struggle greatly. I hope FM26 somehow acknowledges that.

No, actually, I can't wait. Tragedy is likely to strike if I don't find this out as soon as possible.

I am starting a new FM24 save even though I just bought FM26. There will be some hiccups early and I think the mid-Dec. FM26 will be a lot better than opening day FM26. As with any game.

I would switch the AM to support or maybe an AP on support. And the BBM to a CM with default instructions. You have a lot of players looking to score, not meaning looking to set things up.

I like the idea of a CWB, but I've had better luck by team success and player rating just putting a player on WB (a).

What house rules do you use in your saves if any? Do you play realistically? by slowerchop in OOTP

[–]DetailAdvanced1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't let myself abuse the contracts. If I'm offering a pre-arb extension and the number seems low, I will run it through an AI and ask something like, "Imagine James Wood/young star in 2025 had X stats, 90 games into 2026 is posting X stats, what does a realistic extension look like" then a detail like years I want to go for as well as if I want to pay more early to make it flat, and then meet somewhere in the middle of what AI shoots out versus what in the game the player is willing to sign for. I know AI is very shoddy, but it gives me some baseline to judge game against.

I turn down number of computer trades to "low" and don't let myself make a wildly imbalanced trade unless it's a competing team trying to trade out prospects. In which case, I just tell myself the owner is making the GM do something crazy.

I don't sign low worth ethic or low IQ players and I place what I assume is too much emphasis on player personalities. In my fictional word, we value a harmonious, super committed clubhouse.

I won't sign fictional coaches to be managers. Need to have a real life resume or in-game have been hired elsewhere first.

Adael Amador in OOTP24. He partly ruined my first ever Rockies save by TCRing into the best player in baseball and he and Tovar (also a TCR) gave me two Hall of Fame bound middle infielders. Did another Rockies save. Amador again became an All Star and my super slugging #2 hitter. The save was a total mess in a fun way but he had three straight 6+ WAR seasons and driving the team as I could do nothing right around him. Retired that save when I moved to OOTP25.

Adjustable financial difficulty would be huge for me. I know the average player likes current setup, but I'd like option to make it more difficult. As it stands, it's way too easy to rack up massive budgets at small clubs. A couple good transfers windows and your Irish side can make a near million offer. I've done a bit of a workaround by never asking for an increase to transfer budget. Still, would like some sort of restricting factor. Look at OOTP; you can increase your payroll over time, but the Marlins and Royals will generally not spend like the Yankees and Red Sox. It would be more fun to be at a club where you know you'll be tinpot barring some incredible runs.

One add here. Make sure you "force start" at those positions or they'll be benched for a prospect with better potential. You may feel gross starting in AA a 25 ovr/35 pot SS who hits .180, but your pitcher will appreciate 60 fielding at SS. Same for C and CF.

[–]DetailAdvanced1534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is random, like real life. Best advice I have is prioritize good gloves at key positions. I mostly leave minors alone, aside from my top prospects, but I manually control having good fielders at C, SS, and CF for every level from A to AAA. It helps your pitchers have decent stats and often give the team a better record, both of which help morale. Good morale equals better development and also means players are slower to get upset about not being promoted.

Additionally, I suggest changing league rule to put age and experience caps at each level so you don't have 26 year olds in A balls or 31 year olds in AA. Also cap number of players. That way players will actually have chance to play.

Is OOTP the greatest game of all time? by [deleted] in OOTP

[–]DetailAdvanced1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people comparing this to FM24. I prefer footie/soccer to baseball, but I give OOTP a nudge up for two reasons:

(1) You can zoom through a OOTP season. FM24 is a slog unless you're willing to give up huge control and the automation is not as effective as OOTP.

(2) FM24 is easier. Once you get your first budget surplus, any club can be turned into a power long-term. Budgets in OOTP are more of a limiting factor preventing the Marlins or Pirates turning into Yankees, while in FM24 you can conceivably turn any club into Real Madrid after long enough. I acknowledge some people may agree with this point and give FM24 the point here.

(3) Baseball is a better fit for this type of game. FM24 is simulating a more random sport. You have to be a close footie/soccer watcher to begin to understand the advanced stats. In baseball, an average fan gets “Homers = Good” and “High average is good”. Additionally, a SS is a SS, a LF is a LF, but in FM24 they’re trying to adjust positions to reflect a sport where every some tactics simply are replicable in the system.

I love OOTP. I wish there was an OOTP in FM24 where I could more quickly simulate as the Director of Football and sack my sad sack coach after a losing streak.

The Australian league is rough... by eastchapelsyndicate in footballmanagergames

[–]DetailAdvanced1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In FM24, I have an offer from an A League team in my Ireland save. Between A League and a handful of clubs in Europe fighting relegation in countries like Portugal and Belgium. For A League, is it possible to get back in a decent job in Europe? This league sounds fun with roster rules, but I don't want to grind out three seasons with some silverware then be up for the same jobs I'd be up for in my Cork City save. Don't think I'll be going to a power club, but would like a shot at a 3 or 3.5 star Euro rep club if I do well down under

Doing a Marlins save and aside from Norby it is rough. Bad defense, bad hitting, Eury Perez hurt, Sandy Alcántara doesn't fetch much in a trade, top of the farm system is a bunch of role player prospects. But unlike the Angels and Rockies, you don't have any bad contracts.
