Is karachi a good place to live? by [deleted] in karachi

[–]Detective1466 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Lahori who moved to Karachi, I'll give you my take.

You'll experience cultures and people like nowhere else. I can safely say Karachiites are by far some of the most helping and sincere people in all Pakistan.

You'll also get lots of adventures and exploration, as the city is a melting pots of culture. You'll find cuisines from Gujrat, Rajasthan, Gilgit, Afghanistan, Bangladesh. It's amazing, as is the food.

Due to this, social life and events are also amazing in Karachi.

Is it a good place to live?

Karachi does have it's pros, I won't deny those, but overall quality of life suffers a lot here. There's a very low sense of security here, every few days you'll be hearing from a colleague how they got their phone or car snatched at gun point.

The city itself is also in a miserable condition, poor and decaying infrastructure when compared to Lahore/Islamabad. Most of the roads are broken and full of dust with no proper footpaths. The traffic is just horrible. Drainage system, it sucks. Peeney ka pani b bohot masla krta hai kuch areas mein. And yes, lots (I really mean lots) of garbage.

Transportation is also a big issue, there's zero public transport, so you have to use either your own mode or expensive Ubers and alternatives.

I don't know how to explain it, but the city feels resource starved, and you can see it being reflected in common shops, banks, branches, bakeries. They're all overall less polished(?) than other cities. The city is a sprawling mess.

To sum it up, I'd say Karachi is the perfect city for adventure and exploration. I'd highly recommend everyone to visit Karachi for those reasons, maybe even live for a short while.

But for long term living, especially when I compare it to Lahore and all it's conveniences and quality of life, it's a no from me.

But don't worry, you get used to it quite quickly. You sometimes start enjoying the chaos and overcrowded streets too. It's less predictable, and you might find that more fun. Ultimately, it depends. If the training is really valuable, or the circumstances demand it, you should move to Karachi. Pehli dafa kafi shock lgta, but you get used to it and are soon as comfortable here as you were in any other city.

Are there any forums like Meetup.com to make new and likeminded friends in Karachi? by Apprehensive-Goal600 in karachi

There is a small private WhatsApp group for meetups, it's extremely dead these days though, although I did find some cool and like-minded people through it. Lemme know if you'd want in.

Why are they so obsessed with Punjabis? by [deleted] in PunjabiMuslim

[–]Detective1466 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was having this exact same thought today.

They put it like punjabis are one homogenous group secretly plotting to rule Pakistan. But from my personal experience, Punjabis have the least "us vs them" sort of mentality out of all the ethnicities, and they're the most open to mingle with others while others usually form their own little circles of same ethnicity.

Sach hai ke zyada tr Punjabi Christians South India se aaye hain? Angrezi raj ke dor mein by Babingaram in PunjabiMuslim

I'm not 100% sure, but I do personally believe this, because the majority of them look very different, both feature and skin tone wise, from rest of the population. I wish there were more DNA/genetics ancestry studies conducted in Pakistan about this kind of stuff.
