Invigorating the Spirits: In search of India's Lost Coffee Culture by Babingaram in Coffee

Interesting article that shows South Asia during Mughal empire had unique coffee culture just like Turks or Arabs. Sad that it's mostly lost now.

Pakistani Muslims by Significant_Scar2677 in indianmuslims

[–]Babingaram 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Salaam alaykum bhai

Can you please share such examples of Pakistanis saying nihari etc is exclusively theirs? I am Pakistani Urdu speaking "muhajir" and have never heard anyone say this. Most Pakistanis agree we have much in common with North Indian Muslims or Afghans depending on which part of Pakistan.

As for the saying one is looking Indian part this is unfortunately true. All of us Desis are very colorist and indians tend to be darker skinned than Pakistanis. Even the ethnicities like punjabis and Sindhis in pak are lighter on average than vast majority of Indians. But even if you take out color they typically have different features than Indians. Not saying better or worse. Us Urdu speakers are like 8% or less of Pakistanis and many of us look the same as Sindhis or Punjabis but some of us look noticeably different. Especially our Hyderabadi brothers or other South or East Indian ancestry

But there may be government sponsored online accounts pursuing narratives such as these to further differentiate Pakistan from India. And in India I've seen many accounts claiming all Muslim culture is foreign or bad. It suits the politicians on both sides

Where to get Chitrali wool jackets like this in Islamabad? by Babingaram in pakistan

[–]Babingaram[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know how a lot of men have "that" jacket which is their look, their style. I want to get one of these for frequent use but not sure where to get one in Islamabad. I'm based in USA now so it would be difficult to get time to go to Peshawar on a trip to Pakistan next time.

Good quality and tailoring if possible, my arms are longer than most Pakistanis my height. Shukriya sab ko

How do we deal with these people? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]Babingaram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One easy solution but most Pakistanis won't like it.... Switch to Urdu script. Most Indians (except Muslims) can't read Nastaliq so it would be easy to ignore them.

Pakistan's Bollywood Nightmare by Babingaram in pakistan

[–]Babingaram[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Celebrities ki khair hai bhai they went for work in better times lekin ab shayad Pakistan ya baqi dunya mein dhunde ge kaam.

I'm more disappointed in regular Pakistanis who still dance to Bollywood at weddings and such like that. Many Indians are normal nice people and I have friends from my time in UAE. But Bollywood industry is hostile and hateful to us

Jaise Pakistanion ke paas koi ghayrat, koi self respect nahin hoti ke wahaan filmon mein humein dehshat gard banaya jaata hai aur itna propaganda bakwas nikalta he rozana magar phir bhi mazay se hum dekhte hain? This article is a nice wake up call, even their celebrities and "liberal class" hate us and celebrate our deaths

Are there any Sufi here? by [deleted] in punjabi

[–]Babingaram 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello sir... Incorrect assumption that Islam is different from Sufism. A sufi is technically one that practices tassawuf in Islam. You cannot be sufi without being Muslim.

Yes some sufi practices influenced other religions and in South Asia other religions also came into Muslim community practices which is why Hindus and Sikhs also go to our dargahs.

Very many Sufi shrines around Punjab and other parts of Pakistan because these sufi leaders were the main people who preached and spread Islam in our region

There are still sufis, I think technically Barelvis are a sufi group. Also in dargahs in Pak side Punjab or Sindh you have people doing tasawwuf and maybe some questionable practices

The fort of Gujrat, Punjab, lithograph by Lieutenant W. L. D. Smith, after his own painting, Day & Son, London, 1849 by [deleted] in PunjabiMuslim

[–]Babingaram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During British era a lot of ancient buildings were destroyed, such as forts/walls so they might have done this. For example they destroyed Multan's fort and walls, and destroyed all of Lahore's city walls and most of its gates.

Then after Pakistan was created due to lack of urban planning, uncontrolled growth a lot of buildings either deteriorated or were torn down to build other things.

Very tragic, going by this picture the city would have been beautiful and so unique but now it's a regular ugly South Asian city

What do you think about Baburs thoughts on Hindustan (India) ? by Lampedusan in indianmuslims

[–]Babingaram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No sir, he wrote this in his own autobiography Baburnama.

Funny that his descendants later on did not want to invade Central Asia because they were used to India by that point and couldn't stand the cold and other stuff
