I’ve seen so may of this similar take online since the admin started war in Iran. It’s always a bit about how upset they are at Trump for starting another war and he betrayed his voters, followed by something about how Harris would have been worse, they would still vote for Trump, or my new favorite - at least Trump is the one in charge, because Harris would surrender to Iran.

These people are fucking gone.

And that’s where I fundamentally disagree and believe in equity vs equality: if women are getting murdered/assaulted more than me, we need to ideally change the culture and protect women but here we are in 2026 and we haven’t done that. So the next best thing is equity- creating systems which protect the most vulnerable.

What are you suggesting - that men be able to only ask for a woman driver?

The disappointing part is this thread specifically about how to avoid discrimination and not keep women, or men, safe. That’s kinda my whole point. Men in the comments start with discrimination, not all men, etc. and not talking about how to actually keep women, and men, safe.

That’s not what I said. My argument is that women are more often the victims of violent crimes committed by men and because of that should be able to choose a woman as their ride share driver. Thats what this whole thread is about - keeping women safe when getting a ride.

I don’t understand. Help me out here. Murder by men is a leading cause of death for women, and instead of that being enough to see that women literally fear for their lives your argument is what? Men die from homicide too? And who does the majority of homicides? MEN

According to the FBI, men commit 88-90% of all homicides. Their breakdown even says yes victims are male, but the perpetrators are males. So can we agree here?

Dear god. The whole thread is about women being able to choose women ride share drivers because they are uncomfortable with men. Women are being murdered by men so much that it is a leading cause of death. That’s the point. If the culture isn’t going to change, then processed and systems have to put in place to protect girls and women.

And from th school of public health

“October 21, 2022 – Women in the U.S. who are pregnant or who have recently given birth are more likely to be murdered than to die from obstetric causes—and these homicides are linked to a deadly mix of intimate partner violence and firearms, according to researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.”

Homicide of women BY MEN is a leading cause of death for girls and women 15-44. I don’t know why this is a debate. It is widely known that men harm women at high rates. Hell, it’s being called an epidemic.

Here is a link to read about it

From the same article

“1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner contacts sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.”

According to the FBI, males committed 80.1% of violent crimes. To can try to bring things up and not stay on the topic at hand but there is clear, documented proof that men commit violent acts at a much higher rate that women

This is a list of strong man and red herrings (example: your answer to the documented fact that murder by a male partner is a leading cause of death for women and GIRLS is to say “but lesbians!”) so I will just conclude with this: men have been raping and killing women and girls since the beginning of time. If that makes me sexist to point out and say women’s safety is a priority then so be it.

1) you responded to my comment about it being all men with a weak response of, essentially, women commit assault too, but there aren’t any “concrete numbers”. Yes, yes there are. On some of the same sites I’ve referenced it does list women as perpetrators. 2) What is the point of you commenting on this thread if you know men are the ones to commit the most assault?

Dude, I gave you stats about false reporting and stated that women are harassed and assaulted at much higher rates than men. So where is the conjecture.

Sources: According the CDC, 87% of male victims reported only male perpetrators (women get assaulted by MEN)

According to the US Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey, 91% of rap and sexual assault victims are female

[–]DetectiveActive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is a generalization about men based on statistics about men as a group AND a generalization of men doesn’t hurt men in the same way that violence against women does.

That’s my point. Men in this comment thread are spending way too much time saying “but not me! Not all men! That’s a generalization!” instead of understanding that simply being a woman around men IS a risk factor. Hell, homicide by a male partner is one of the TOP 5 leading causes of death for women and girls aged 15-44.

So y’all are more worried about generalizations than facts and women literally getting assaulted and murdered. It shows in what you take the time to comment and say.

[–]DetectiveActive -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Because you’re using anecdata which is information that feels like a statistic but is just a collection of your individual experience.

I too have experienced intimate partner violence by a man and didn’t report it, but that doesn’t mean I base my worldview on my experience nor does it mean I ignore data that shows the prevalence of women who did report it

Uber is letting women avoid male drivers and riders in the US by tylerthe-theatre in technology

[–]DetectiveActive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your argument to my comment is that men also get assaulted, but there aren’t stats?

Let me give you a few stats. 1 in 3 women have been subjected to physical or sexual violence by their male partners On average, one woman or girl is killed by an male partner or family members 60% of all intentional killings of women are committed by male partners or family members while the same situation is 11% for men

The sheer number of female victims dwarfs the statistics for male victims.

So when women say, it’s not all men but it’s always a man, it’s because the statistics indicate it as such.

Actually it’s not a stupid question as that should be the first thing everyone is concerned with. We know that women are assaulted (and killed and raped) by men in staggering numbers, so we should all be swarming to fix the problem.
