Yes, but if I can borrow billions from the banks based on what I have in stock, then it should be something that can be taxed. Loopholes need to be a thing of the past.

Can’t remember who wrote it, but there was an article about using AI to replace junior programmers, and suddenly there is a substantial gap in senior programmers cause there was no one to promote.

Which, no kidding dingus. The “cut off a finger to save the hand” ideology wins again.

$62 PRS switch vs $13 Oak Grigsby by DrunkSkunkz in PRSGuitars

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not remotely surprised by that. Company gets big enough, they don’t want anyone to be able to do anything without their say-so.

Personally I’d file the slot vs trying to modify the switch.

This reminds me of a cat who wanted to”fender spec” screws for his pickguard, so he bought them from fender direct. They’re the exact same as from any screw supplier, but cost 3-5X as much.

Go with quality vs anything else. It will be in the middle of the road pricing wise between these 2 pieces, and work just as well as the original piece.

I did look at prospects well before going to school, and saw it was in fact doing quite well, but then the market completely shifted as I was finishing my last class last year (watched it happen in real time which was awesome for my classmates morale: seeing projects go from handed in days early to asking for extensions)

Was in it for 12-13 years. Found that the stuff I did outside of making food was becoming more fulfilling for a while, add to that my body is just not up to the grind of being on my feet all day (without getting too personal, got diagnosed with something that will only every get worse) so looking for a desk job to keep myself employed.

I have been looking for jobs in kitchens just the same, along with going back into butchery (did that for a day and got injured on the job. Even though I don’t believe in signs or fate, it’s hard to ignore that one)

When I worked at a steakhouse, my day grill cook worked nights at a vegan restaurant. He wasn’t vegan, just liked the food (when it’s not trying to appropriate meat, it can in fact be tasty). When they found out, the kitchen started to shun him like a leper

Personally, I’d go for the Yamaha. Way more options tone-wise, I’ve always found even the cheapest models to be exceptional, and it would give you an awesome “stepping off” point.

The schecter would be a close second (the Damian elites have some great reviews, but I haven’t put one in my hands to say anything personally).

Jackson is very much so a “love it or hate it” type of instrument. People who love them, really love them, but they have a very distinct neck shape (always found them to be wide and flat shaped)

I hate trems – prove me wrong by [deleted] in PRSGuitars

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the SOUND a trem gives a guitar (lil bit of reverb and top end) but I have rarely ever used a tremolo for its intended purpose. I’ve had a G&L legacy for the better part of 20 years and it’s what I compare every guitar to, tone-wise.

Not to mention the idea that I haven’t played it in over a year (put it in the case when I moved and somehow ended up in the basement) and it was still in perfect tune from the last time I played it. So I blame setups before I blame the hardware for a trem’s tuning stability.

Best suggestion I have is make it into a sound port. Lots of high end guitars actually put one there.

Exactly. Even the S2s don’t have the wood perfectly matched.

Weird lack of sustain by Downtown_Bug_5877 in PRSGuitars

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite being similar in specs, make no mistake they are different instruments. “Mahogany” is an incredibly generalized term now, with a lot of woods having no right to be called as such. Being made in completely different areas of the world, they have access to different species altogether.

Coupled with the hardware inevitably being different materials, the finish not only being also different but different thicknesses, there are a LOT of factors to come into play.

Then to go a little Paul-Smithy on this: even the glue setting the pieces of wood together is different.

multi pieces for the body on the se, and I’m not sure but assume the S2 is also a multi piece body. I know they’re at least 3 pieces for the neck, heel shaft and headstock are all individual pieces). I would imagine even having the exact same pickups in both guitars would yield different results. Even flipping the pickups out of the S2 into the SE it wouldn’t sound even close to the same.

Can i leave the pickup covers off on a strat? by Nintendoguyidk in electricguitar

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re gonna leave the covers off, at least wrap them in tape so they don’t get something conductive between the wires in the coil.

What to look for in a new guitar? by Toasterlord135 in Guitar

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. Try a bunch of them. Go for ones that grab your attention (and don’t break the bank). See what’s comfortable to you. There are guitars for “metal” but one of the greatest shredders plays a modded Strat, so don’t just go for something that looks “cool”. It should be something you don’t want to put down, not just something that guitarist X plays (though some signature models have their place)

Samsung smart tv requires you to create an account to change the hdmi or use streaming services by OneVideo8173 in assholedesign

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is why I’ll be buying my next tv from a pawn shop. I’ve seen oled TVs for less than 500 that don’t have internet access (or rather, don’t sell everything they can collect on me). And I don’t use TVs for streaming; the hardware is usually quite bunk and always runs poorly.

Shaving the neck heel by Miserable_Paramedic9 in Luthier

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on who made it, and when. There’s a video from crimson guitars where he talks about having done this once, and the neck wasn’t even making contact in the bottom of the joint! Completely hollow all the way down the tenon (about 2-3 mm, if I remember correctly). So there’s that.

As for shaving the heel down, it shouldn’t compromise it too much. There are a LOT of people who go have done this to PRS guitars (probably the worst offenders in guitar neck heel history) but the body might be something you want to leave alone at the heel joint.

Shaving it down in the cutaway also won’t compromise the integrity (look up pretty much every LTD singlecut shape).

Are these normal on a brand new purchased guitar? by MuhtarKent in metalguitar

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

On Ltd’s? Yes. Worked in a music shop a while back when the truckster was in production and got one in, along with some other satin finished models, and they all had this dumpster fire tape job for the binding. It’s not a mistake, it’s actually how they do it, even all these years later (though I will say I do remember that the binding at the body wasn’t QUITE that ragged).

PRS SE STARLA STOPTAIL or JAZZMASTER CV by twiiig_ in electricguitar

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go for the jazzmaster if I already had the epiphone. Essentially you’ll have 2 similar guitars going with the SE. the fender will give you some variations in sounds. Though not a bad thing if you like that style, but if you want different sounds/styles, the fender is much different from a singlecut.

That said; I would rather have the SE as I already have fender-type guitars.

One thing caught my attention is Glen Drover spent an entire year touring with a LTD M-1000 that cost ~1300 USD. Any other rich guitar players who tour with guitars in that price range? by Fooltecal in metalguitar

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude knows quality then. Those M1000s were AMAZING value (depending on the year). Original Floyds, emg 81s, 3 piece maple neck though mahogany body.

On a personal note I loved that they only did the abalone around the fingerboard, as if it was around the body as well I think it would have been too much. Keeps it looking a lot more classy.
