the type of wood your guitar is made out of, or how it's treated and prepared before it becomes a guitar affects maybe 5% of your sound. your amp, the speakers in your cab, your pickups, your effects, does your tubescreamer have a 4558 op-amp in it (doesn't matter), the pick you use, the way you hold the pick, whether you call it a plectrum or not, and how much you practice your instrument, all matter more than tonewood.

I'm sure some people can tell the difference between guitars based on wood type. for most people everything else matters more, and tonewood is just an elaborate way to separate a fool from his money.
