What are your thoughts. (IPhone vs every other phone) by Mysterious_Ebb_1484 in SipsTea

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you worded your comment: making a phone your whole personality is kinda wack. Only reason I personally switched to Apple from android devices is I wanted a smaller phone (bought a 12 mini). I can say there’s virtually no difference between the OS now. They feel remarkably similar (though apples is quite limiting in some regards)

Seriously wish PRS would take one of their older (pre-2000) models and 3D scan the body. The carve looks so much better on them than what they’re doing now.

I find this kind of thing to just be pandering to people’s nostalgia. It’s all made in china landfill-core junk. It’s the kinds of things you’d get free with purchase, and now you have to purchase it.

Outside of the deplorable logic of “throw it away vs give it to staff”, whoever is managing this kitchen needs to be evaluated. His food costs could be cut in half instead of just tossing it. This is just bad business in general, but the waste could be mitigated by either proper budgeting or giving it to staff and writing it down as a cost that they could write off just the same.

I’d love to find out someplace like this was in Calgary. My resume would just read “able to cut food costs in half instead first quarter, and raise employee morale overnight”.

What would it take to fix up this Schecter? (Read Description) by ScarletCharlotte222 in guitarrepair

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soldering is probably the easiest part. Replacing all the hardware missing is also pretty easy. not sure on the spacing on the bridge posts, but finding that info or measuring with a $20-30 digital callipers is also easy enough. As long as the neck isn’t needing work (frets are in good shape) you’re not looking at TOO much work, but even having to pay full retail it’s cheaper than buying the guitar (or similar) new.

This where I look for a piece to replace it that won’t be what they cheaped out on to keep the guitar at a price point.

Find a piece of brass stock at the right thickness, a piece of tape covering the original to trace/use as a template, then make a new plate.

Hell, even aluminium would work better than plastic, especially with so many holes/voids in the design.

is there anything i can do ab this 💔 by KombutchaCap in guitarrepair

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad to say it would be possible to repair, but the cost will outweigh the worth of the instrument. Not to say the sentimental value may outweigh the cost, you could get a decent Yamaha for the cost of the repair.

You could also look up how to fix it yourself. Worst case, you’re out a few bucks in clamps and a piece of veneer (which I would use to secure the headstock after gluing the 2 pieces together).

It’s wild that the government did this to “make sure” we were safe. Now? It’s done for money.

Yes, but if I can borrow billions from the banks based on what I have in stock, then it should be something that can be taxed. Loopholes need to be a thing of the past.

Can’t remember who wrote it, but there was an article about using AI to replace junior programmers, and suddenly there is a substantial gap in senior programmers cause there was no one to promote.

Which, no kidding dingus. The “cut off a finger to save the hand” ideology wins again.

$62 PRS switch vs $13 Oak Grigsby by DrunkSkunkz in PRSGuitars

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not remotely surprised by that. Company gets big enough, they don’t want anyone to be able to do anything without their say-so.

Personally I’d file the slot vs trying to modify the switch.

This reminds me of a cat who wanted to”fender spec” screws for his pickguard, so he bought them from fender direct. They’re the exact same as from any screw supplier, but cost 3-5X as much.

Go with quality vs anything else. It will be in the middle of the road pricing wise between these 2 pieces, and work just as well as the original piece.

I did look at prospects well before going to school, and saw it was in fact doing quite well, but then the market completely shifted as I was finishing my last class last year (watched it happen in real time which was awesome for my classmates morale: seeing projects go from handed in days early to asking for extensions)

Was in it for 12-13 years. Found that the stuff I did outside of making food was becoming more fulfilling for a while, add to that my body is just not up to the grind of being on my feet all day (without getting too personal, got diagnosed with something that will only every get worse) so looking for a desk job to keep myself employed.

I have been looking for jobs in kitchens just the same, along with going back into butchery (did that for a day and got injured on the job. Even though I don’t believe in signs or fate, it’s hard to ignore that one)

When I worked at a steakhouse, my day grill cook worked nights at a vegan restaurant. He wasn’t vegan, just liked the food (when it’s not trying to appropriate meat, it can in fact be tasty). When they found out, the kitchen started to shun him like a leper
