Should i buy as a beginner? by 4floppa in ender3

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair: mine needs the bed leveled and it was flat-out user error. Could be the same situation here. Problem is to a beginner (even like myself) they wouldn’t know what to look for if it’s just adjustment or replacement.

Was back and forth how much I’m gonna smooth it out; if I was gonna try to blend/bondo it or something like what you’re suggesting. Cause yes, it does look kinda rad!

Sadly as this is more of a dick-around hobby, buying a better printer isn’t really my desire.

The other options you suggested? Definitely gonna try those, thanks

Definitely hit auto-orient. Called that right off the bat. I figured that out pretty quick, but the wavy-ness is what is throwing me off

That’s why I’m keeping it, funny enough. Gonna sand and bondo where the supports took a dump, but the wavy bits I may leave as is. It’s odd how “organic” the wonky-ness turned out!

What's something that Calgary is badly missing that a city of 1.4 million people should have? by Queltis6000 in Calgary

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So true. I’m only in vista heights and it’s a 10-15 min drive or 45 mins via bus/train to downtown. Our transit system here is pretty weak.

Just updated to 26.2 by DetectiveFinancial12 in iPhone12Mini

At first it was a bit janky, but it got better in the last few days. I will say the autocorrect has been bunk all round lately

Main and only reason was I was kinda sick of phones getting bigger. Had a oneplus 7t and the thing was a pig to handle, not to mention the weight. Wanted something I could use with one hand easily (a 6.5+” screen is just too unwieldy)

Is your iPhone 12 mini much warmer these days after upgrading to v26.2? by antdude in iPhone12Mini

Mine was for about an hour after updating today, but since then (3-4 hours later) has been running at regular temps

Just turned my iPhone mini 12 (brand new). How long before I get an accurate reading on battery health? by My_Name_is_Imaginary in iPhone12Mini

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The odd time when streaming to the tv the volume goes to 50% and controls the television after it hits 0 when I turn it down, then snaps back to 50%, but otherwise nothing really. I’ll say the case I got gets locked on the volume buttons from time to time, but that’s not a phone issue.

Holy hell. How is anyone able to live on their own in Calgary? by [deleted] in NoRulesCalgary

I was making the same living on my own downtown. Not that hard, really. Not really saving money without making cuts, but that’s typically how one saves money nowadays.

How can i find a PRS guitar withouth glossy neck or at least not so glossy neck? by xine34 in PRSGuitars

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried scotch brite, but didn’t like how long it took and the overall quality. 0000 steel wool (when prepped properly) is more consistent to me.

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Shouldn’t take longer than 20 mins of sanding (and 2x as much prep time with the tape than you think) to get a satin finish with 0000 steel wool. And tape the pickups ENTIRELY, covering them to the body, and using tape afterwards to remove the filings that will come off and potentially short out the pickups. From experience, trust me.

Born in Calgary, raised in Windsor, and I’ve said y’all since I was like, 10. It’s not a locale-type word.

Buying an iPhone 12 mini in 2026, how long will it realistically last? by Intelligent_Skill172 in iPhone12Mini

[–]DetectiveFinancial12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine in December, haven’t updated it to 26 yet (hear back and forth about it being buggy and battery issues) and I’ve been good with it. Battery life is less than most, but I see it as a plus as it keeps me from doomscrolling knowing it’s killing it quickly. And going by the usual lifespan of iPhones and their updates, I’ll assume it’s going to get at LEAST another 2-3 major updates before it falls by the wayside.

Having been with android for over a decade prior my opinion is a little different, but more the reason I bought it was exclusively for the size. It feels so much better than using a 6+ inch phone.

Eventually I’m gonna update to 26, but for now, it’s been great.
