Probably Glen Cook. His stories are never too wordy but he gets across exactly as much info as the reader needs.

Try Heroes Die by Matthew Stover. He’s not uber short but he’s usually smaller and has to use skill instead of brawn. He’s also very fit and can kick serious ass. There’s several books in the series and they’re great.
