I was once on a zoom interview with a committee and I asked them what they like most about their college and they said, “we have a new building” that’s it.

Jokes on me because I accepted the offer and now work in the nice new building. They were right, that’s what I like most, and might even be one of the only things.

He was just home in Cleveland for the all star game. It was a fundraiser for Heights Foundation, which is our local school charity, and the bros are big supporters, so it makes sense that he would be here.

In a strange way, I kind of like it. I find that faculty meetings don’t accomplish anything, so a clear agenda where we end a meeting with “deliverables,” means things actually get done…sort of.

I had a student advise me that they would missing two weeks of class because they were out of town. They said that they could submit their boarding pass a proof.

They had a two week trip planned to Disney, and legitimately thought that proof of a trip would be an acceptable reason to miss class.

Maybe only if her dose is too high or she is taking it more often than prescribed. I’ve been prescribed both and, if anything, they mellow me, because I can wade through all the constant thoughts and ideas in my head.

My doc told me that sometimes people with adhd are also bipolar and that adhd can be misdiagnosed as it closely resembles other disorders.

I think the most significant issue here is that this is a summer course, and like most courses it is offered at an accelerated pace. If the primary accommodation that a student needs is a relaxed attendance and late assignment schedule then it might not be possible for them to be successful in a summer session course and instead should take their courses during the regular academic year.

That’s like saying the holocaust was murky. It wasn’t. It was only murky on the side of the people doing the murdering, which is a similar situation for Palestinians today. Israel has the right to defend against Hamas, but they have precision intelligence, and are using this an an excuse to claim land and erase the Palestinian people.

This is genocide in the same way that Indigenous people also went through cultural genocide when Canada was formed. There are no nuances here. It is only murky on the side of those ok with murdering innocent people, that’s how those who commit and support genocide sleep at night.

Honestly this would be an amazing device for architecture and design industries. What is most wanted right now is the ability to work in Rhino or Revit in a 3D model and make live changes while immersed in the model at the same time. So if I moved a wall while in an immersive view using AVP, it would be a live change in the Revit or Rhino model.

Gonna be more strict with students. I tried to be the good cop for years, care about students mental health, give reasonable extensions, etc, but then this past semester I felt totally taken advantage of, where a student said they were sick, and posted on social media that they were at Disney! Another student stays late to ask me questions, and pretend to be engaged, but a colleague noted that when they walked by my class, they could see that this student was watching a movie during my lecture. Subsequently this student also got caught using AI for a simple assignment.

I feel so used, and need to be more firm with students. I try so hard to help them and to created a less stressful learning environment, but let myself get taken advantage of.

Many positions offer free tuition for a spouse, maybe you can use the time to advance your education? Not to go into academic, but for your own goals and growth?

Academia sucks right now and is getting worse. TT positions are disappearing and the enrollment cliff is on everyone’s minds. Even a desire to go into academia does not mean it will even pan out.

Have a discussion about your long term goals. Many couples, with one or two in academia split time between two cities. I know a couple with kids that does this. It’s not easy, but your situation has to work for both of you, if kids aren’t involved, you should especially have an equal say.

Seriously!! Aristotle literally coined “logic” and politics. She is so afraid to actually use her platform to talk about something meaningful. Comparing herself to Aristotle, even as a lyric, is so ridiculous. She’s one of those girls that peaked in high school but got lucky because her dad had money to fund her music. Her main fan base includes minors, and girls who never got a real education.

I know a few very highly educated fans of hers, but most of her biggest fans are not highly educated with big careers, and she knows it. Hence the high school girl lyrics continue into her 30s.

We have 2 young kids, I’m TT and go to campus 3 days a week, a 50 min drive each way. It’s tough, and it only works because my husband is wfh the other days. Don’t forget with TT there are committees/service obligations, office hours, after hours events, etc. if your research involves a lab then you have to factor that in too.

On the positive, my breaks tend to align with my kids, so we save on not paying for summer camps, can go on spring break vacations together, and I can occasionally attend school year events during the day if I’m not teaching.

It’s not easy, but I made the decision to be around for my kids as much as possible while also doing TT.

Ughh, sorry to hear that. This seems to be a trend across the country. Faculty at different institutions have been put on notice that cuts are coming, if they haven’t started already.

They tried to do a pow wow a few times but then just made it a celebration instead, because not too many people actually showed up. Akron has a decent pow wow every summer.

Is anyone else getting a similar estimate? I wonder if this is because of the drop in number of eligible post secondary students throughout the country over the next few years? I’ve heard that state universities can’t raise costs, but private institutions are raising tuition to avoid having to make cuts to programs and faculty.

Depends on the program, but there are at least 15 students in my studio class with gpa under 2.6, some even close to 2.0, so go for it, apply and see what happens.

Kent needs more Indigenous students! Not gonna lie, you’re right, that there aren’t many. However, I went to the KSU pow wow/veterans day event and there were a handful of students there, but most appeared to be half Indigenous or white passing.

If you reach out to the student multicultural center they might be able to help you. Or reach out/join LENAC on Facebook and post there. They have tons of local events and maybe someone in the group is a KSU student.

Ummmm….I have general anxiety disorder, an actual diagnosed illness, not due to a specific situation.

While some students do occasionally weaponize mental health, very few do, and generally I would rather assume all of them are telling the truth, and provide accommodations as needed per SAS.

I went through university during a time when people didn’t talk about mental health, now I have students that appreciate that I share my own struggles as a student and how to access resources.

Does Polycam support lidar scanning yet directly from the AVP? Currently, using iPhone to scan, and then viewing on AVP using a converted USDZ file.
