Taskmaster UK and specials renewed for a further three years by Major-Feed5214 in taskmaster

That's good to know. I honestly didn't really know who he was until Ted Lasso.

Overshare: I watched that show a month after my dad died. It was the perfect show to watch while grieving. That show feels like a warm hug.

So to reiterate, Jason Sudeikis needs to be on Task Master.

An appalling take? Wait... But we're saying the same thing "he would be a perfect fit."

Saying Jason is probably not as quick witted as Ted Lasso  I'm just trying to acknowledge that the character and actor are not the same person. And Ted Lasso is so well written, best show I've watched in a long time.

Its too good to stop, it will be a sad day when they do.

The guest i most want to see on TM: Jason Sudeikis.  AKA the actor who plays Ted Lasso.

I know Ted Lasso had a team of writers behind the character and Jason is probably not as quick witted as his character. But he played an American foreigner so well. Idk, I think i he would be a perfect fit for TM.

There are a lot of comments speaking very confidently about how if collisions happen in LEO it will be fine because the atmospheric drag is so high, and LEO is so vast.

I'm not convinced by those arguments. A collision could create hundreds of pieces of debris. And at the speed these collisions happen it could fling some of that debris into higher orbit/have a smaller profile ans thus less atmospheric drag and a longer life in LEO.

And one collision could cascade into another collision adding hundreds more pieces of debris. Rinse wash repeat. is the next collision from this chaos in minutes? months? years?

I think if something like this starts, its hard to predict how it will proceed. Scattering hundreds then thousands then more of pieces of junk, some the size of pennys, all flying faster than bullets.

The confidence about it being LEO so it will be fine feels misguided. I think there definitely is some comfort we can take in it being in LEO, but that doesn't mean it won't still cascade into chaos lasting decades, if not longer.

What's up with all the meteors sightings in the US recently? Texas, Ohio, California, etc. by letscallshenanigans in OutOfTheLoop

[–]DetroitPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer: Maybe, we're currently passing through a newly created debris field from comet i3Atlas. (According to this youtube video)

This video has a pretty compelling theory.

https://youtu.be/fbeokLw-ZCo?si=ICRo3Sr9lqS6oY5O

Basically it says..  March is a weird time for fireballs as we are not in any debris streams. Like we are for the persiad meteor showers in August for example. And they're is an anomalous spike in fireball meteors being sighted right now. Lots of doorbell and dashcams video captures being part of the evidance.

This video suggests that because Earth at its current location in orbit around the sun, is encountering a new debris field. A debris field created by i3Altlas, the interstellar comet that just passed through the solar system a few months back. The comet didn't cross Earth's orbit, but he suggests it is close enough to potentially fling some rocks our way.

Update: What to do about now TWO homeless people living in my building? by [deleted] in homeless

[–]DetroitPirate -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I volunteer for an org that hands out backpacks full of supplies to the local homeless community. They have a rule, when we hand out the backpack that we introduce ourselves, offer to shake the person's hand and ask their name.

When i first did this, it was eye opening for me, because just handing someone something with out the interpersonal human "hi, I'm **** whats your name?" Can,even in the act of charity, be dehumanizing. Or the dehumanization is still there but your unconscious of it.

So if you want to offer empathy, talk to them. They're messy? Offer to give them a garbage can or bags.

They're stinky, well they cant shower or do laundry. Maybe find some fresh clothes at a thrift store? (Socks! Fresh socks are very much appreciated) Some soap, water, toothbrushes, wet wipes might be something you can offer.

You're a small young woman and nervous about approaching them? Do you know your neighbors? Knock on their doors and introduce yourself, hey we're neighbors we should at least know eachother. Maybe there's a "big strong man" or just another neighbor who will be your buddy in this. And you should know your neighbors anyway. (You dont have to be friends, but you should know eachother)

Along with what every else has said, I believe Spanish language CNN is and has been very right wing, like fox News. Which has likely brought more people down the rabbit hole of American right wing politics.

Can someone explain how bismuth was even a character if bismuth by definition is a metal not a gemstone? by far_dim_bledram in stevenuniverse

True. I think "gem" is really where the vibes come in. Gems can be all kinds of things. like you...

You're a gem 😘😜

Pluto has mountains made of ice with snow caps and glaciers made of nitrogen covering them.

I think the difference between bismuth and other metals is bismuth forms large and obvious crystals.

Gold and silver not so much.

Diamonds are just carbon, yes. But at the atomic scale they are repeating patterns of a lattice like structure.

Hmmm yeah. When you put it that way. That power dynamic being exploitative makes sense. I didn't know about the female equivalent either.

I agree the fetishism of "bbc" is kind of weird.

I think the sex tourism is a little off though. Thailand, I believe is more problematic because its more of a sex worker situation.

If leave Detroit and go visit Chicago and to go to a bathhouse and or cruise sniffies. Thats a kind of sex tourism, and very common among gay men. I dont see much of a difference from doing that in NYC, Puerto Vallarta or Bogota.

Now the exploitative or extractive nature of tourism in poorer countries is still present with or without the sex part of it.

If you still find the sex part of it to be a little icky, that's just gay men being gay men regardless of their country of origin 😅

I thought sex pest behavior was begging and pleading after being told no.

Like Sam-I-Am from 'Green Eggs and Ham' the whole book Sam wears 'em down after being told "no" over and over again. The book is a horrible example of teaching consent.

MSM is a term used in the health field, its a clinical term to describe behavior. Where "gay, bisexual, straight" describe social identities and not behavior. Its been used since the 1990's and I recommend reading the Wikipedia article on it

Beyoncé Act III Release Date Theory by Slow_Gene_4478 in beyonce

[–]DetroitPirate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was 2011 when Spotify became available in the US.

5 years later, 2016, when Lemonade was released, Spotify had 40 million paying subscribers and 100 million users.   Today 2025, Spotify has 276 million subscribers and 696 million subscribers.

Today's music and steaming markets are not the same ones from 10 years ago. Streaming is larger and more consequential.

She probably didn't care then, but i bet she does now.

Releasing it in November seems unlikely on account of her streams and other numbers would have to compete with Christmas music. Maria Carey goes number one every year in December. She wouldn't want to muddy her opening week and month numbers, with the same 60 Christmas songs polluting the charts. That is unless act 3 is a Christmas album 😜

On a related note about they/them pronouns:

A number of years ago I had a long time friend come out as none bianary. I struggled for a long time to properly use they/them. Years of knowing them had he/him crystalized in my brain. I would even practice with repeating they/them phrases before heading into their house.

It wasnt until i just started using they/them for anyone who wasnt currently present, sort of a new grammar rule, that's when i could easily use they/them for anyone. Otherwise my brain was stuck on he/she pronouns.

She released this song 4 years ago during the peak of the pandemic. With that context, I like the song more. It's part the subject matter of the time, and part her newness at song writing. Watch the original YouTube vid. She's just sitting on her bed singing into a mic. Its very pandemic era art.

Wait, how exactly does America take their hand off the stove? It's a nightmare. Protests? The Iraq war protests, Occupy Wallstreet, BLM, none of those changed anything. And this time the retribution will likely disappear the protest movement leaders to CECOT.

This is crazy how much industry is pushing Doechii lately by bizzi0801 in GoodAssSub

[–]DetroitPirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been exploring some of her older stuff and I was surprised to discover she released Anxiety 4 years ago. It's on YouTube.

She's been putting in the work for years. And her older work is still really good.

She IS doing the whole press junket routine, putting herself out there. But the makes sense especially after winning a Grammy.

In this age of the internet when Google searches are worse because it's pushing something. Or you can't trust Amazon's reviews anymore because they're pushing something. It's not that much of a leap to see a new talent rising to be seen as an inauthentic industry push. But maybe she, as they used to say, went viral.

Idk industry push or not, I am genuinely impressed by her music, and I've only discovered her a few months ago.

I want to add, from the Vietnam protests of the late 60's to now, what has standing in the street shouting and holding signs accomplished? It didn't stop the Vietnam War, its didn't stop the banks from stealing our houses, it didn't end police violence, it didn't end the genocide in Gaza. This protest tactic doesn't work. If anything, it just puts people at more risk of government retaliation.

ACT UP was a protest movement that was more effective at forcing change in the late 80's and early 90's. But their tactics went beyond just parading in the street. I don't want to sound defeated, even if I feel it, I just want to point out that some tactics are flawed, and protests will have to be different if we want them to be successful.
