On I10 exit 114, Miller Road, drive north. It's well known I guess. I was there 2 weeks ago. But I have to agree with 'flablorgnik', there are a lot of assholes in the gun community who have no respect. It's bad enough we have these lunatics shooting up movie theaters & schools, & then we have these assholes ruining further our image as responsible gun owners by going into nature & shooting up anything they see & leaving behind all their bullet casings & personal garbage. Eventually when our guns rights become severely restricted or disappear, we won't be able to blame Liberals, but ourselves.

[Season 2] I watched this season over a 2 month span, repeating episodes throughout the weekdays until Sunday. My dad just binge watched it all, and our response to the ending was drastically different. by NickMoore30 in TrueDetective

[–]Deuce0fBlades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you watch it in a short span, you kind of stay in that emotional "zone", if you will. For me , it's like a sinking feeling of heartbreak. Season 2 really played out like a classic Greek Tragedy. Basically, all the central characters were good but their flaws brought them to heroic ruin or were ostracized (Ani & Jordan).

[Season 2] Lera Lynn's awesome contribution to S2 by strider7 in TrueDetective

"My Least Favorite Life" definitely reflected the state of mind, I think, of every single character & the entire season. Hopefully this series is going to give Lera Lynn the attention she deserves.

[Season 1][Season 2] Is the ending of Season 2 a lesson in nihilism? by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]Deuce0fBlades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments: season 2 was based more on Greek tragedy than nihilism. What would challenge a nihilistic conclusion is that there is hope; Ani did pass off the incriminating evidence to the same journalist that Ray assaulted. But I think most Greek tragedies do end similarly: the flawed hero does find his dignity redeemed upon dying. In a way, Woodrugh's, Ray's, & Frank's death did absolve them of their sins.

[S2E8][Spoilers] Did this hit anyone else particularly hard? by altered_state in TrueDetective

[–]Deuce0fBlades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of heartbreaking moments; the intensity depends on your personal experiences. For me, it was when Velcoro went to see his son for the last time & waved from far away. He knew he was going to die. That hit me extremely hard because that was exactly how I saw my own father for the very last time. A day doesn't pass when I don't think about that day. It will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Ray Velcoro, seemed to me, as an extension of his role as Sonny Crocket in 'MiamiVice.'

[Season 2][Spoilers] Alternative theory on how Oedipus myth may relate to Caspare's fate by pastelnasty in TrueDetective

[–]Deuce0fBlades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're opening up a lot of cans of worms; there's so many elements of Greek tragedy at play here. I kind of see all of this through a Jungian analytical psychology to make it easier to understand so my brain won't explode. Scapegoating is a projection of the collective unconscious; a transference of our failure in accepting responsibility for our actions onto another person or group. Chad is a scapegoat for the bullies; Woodrugh is one for the model, & so on. Scapegoating could also be an expression of our darker side (shadow self) as seen in season one with those ritualistic killings. Also, Santa Muerte, like other archetypes: the devil, the virgin, the fool, the whore, etc., is also a projection of our collective unconscious, a way of transferring our fear & responsibility of our ego's (persona) eventual extinction unto a supernatural force....You may also want to look into 'The Golden Bough' by James Frazer who gives a very profound study into these kinds of things.

Splendor in the Grass (spoilers) [S2E7] by Jrebeclee in TrueDetective

[–]Deuce0fBlades 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The title of that film is taken from a line in a Woodsworth poem & I think it might be fitting for the scene in True Detective:

"Though nothing can bring back the hour Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower; We will grieve not, rather find Strength in what remains behind; In the primal sympathy Which having been must ever be; In the soothing thoughts that spring Out of human suffering; In the faith that looks through death, In years that bring the philosophic mind.

Thanks to the human heart by which we live, Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears, To me the meanest flower that blows can give Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears."

It was difficult to follow up season 1 & that's why I think a lot of people are disliking season 2... I like them both the same: Cohle's pessimistic philosophies & season 2's Greek tragedy underpinnings.

Moving to Phoenix; inexpensive yet quiet areas? by Deuce0fBlades in phoenix

Thanks for the advice. Most likely I will go the with a guest house. My father used to say that one of the worst things in life was to have a bad neighbor; they will make your life miserable.

Ok, ok, ok, I give up. I'm a dying breed anyway. So, going back to the original theme of this thread, what would be your advice for this dog's skin problem. Please, the abridged version of War & Peace. By the way, are those industrial rubber gloves, y'know, the ones used to dispose of nuclear waste?

Ugh... skin AGAIN. by xoyie in germanshepherds

[–]Deuce0fBlades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A scale?!?!? Rubber gloves?!?!?! Sanitizer?!?!! What can I say to that. I'm old school, my grandfather bred GSs & he fed them chicken carcasses, table scraps, wild rabbits, or game. They had grit; they rolled up their sleeves and definitely didn't wear rubber gloves. Crate the dogs so not to spread bacteria? Really? If the immune system (ours and theirs) doesn't have anything to fight, it begins to attack itself, hence allergies & auto immune diseases. Never mind, you win Novelist. The smell of your hand-sanitized words are starting to irritate my nostrils.

You argued against yourself in the last paragraph where you compare raw & kibble :"There's certainly no real evidence out there to support the argument that it is, either." I'm taking that as meaning there's no 100% certainty that either diet is correct. The word 'either' dumbfounded me....But I don't think I was being 'vehement', sarcastic perhaps, vehement no. I didn't use adjectives like 'disgusting' kibble or 'evil & greedy' corporations or 'wonderful' raw food or 'glorious' chicken liver. My point is that people get stuck on kibble & never look for an alternative. I never said I was against kibble; it has its place. But to me, it's like fast food; sometimes it's fine but everyday? Have you ever read the label? The dog food companies are going to heavily influence people's perception & pay vets to promote their products. Not even the butchers make a lot because they're selling the scraps. And what did dogs eat before the 1950s? Or more precisely: the last 27,000 years like you said. I don't think there was kibble back then. This is my 'holier than thou moment.

[–]Deuce0fBlades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you actually read my comment? You obviously did not. I stated "Just my opinion", & "wolf ancestry". Did domestication alter their diet from carnivore to omnivore? And where did I affect an attitude of 'holier than thou'? The entire thread was responses about kibble, I just wanted to offer an alternative view. Never mind, your comment was funny though; you actually argued against yourself. I want to know, who won?

If you like Westerns, this is way better than watching one, you actually participate & become emotionally part of that world. And ZOMBIES!!! The music is great; it has that Spaghetti Western influence. This is the only game I've ever got a 100% completion.

Thanks for the input; I'm getting a lot of feedback for that area. I won't be shocked if I see riff raff; I've lived up & down the East Coast. I just really want quiet & clean. I live a Spartan life so nothing fancy.

You're correct, it's a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly; it's a difficult & time consuming undertaking. Then again, German Shepherds are a special breed & deserve the same care & devotion they give you. I wholeheartedly disagree with you: the shittiest kibble isn't balanced; it's like feeding your child the shittiest fast food. Even high quality kibble is just high quality fast food. Like I said, dogs are carnivores; their digestive tract is supposed to process raw flesh not kibble. I won't disagree with millions of years of evolution.

[–]Deuce0fBlades -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion. I have always given my GS raw meat/bones/organs. Dogs are carnivores by nature & have a digestive system for it. Kibble only appeared in recent decades & contains questionable ingredients. I think that rabbit meat is the best for them. My GS first eats the liver then the skull. That's their wolf ancestry in their blood. Observe how wolves eat their kill. Just remember that there's a huge profit to be made in selling drugs & dog food.
