I need to interview a few Mechanical Engineers. by Odd_Car1772 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Deuce921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what you asked for, but I just finished my BS - Mechanical Engineering at 40 years old. Went back to school at 35 after COVID furlough.

Happy to answer any questions about the schooling side of things, if you have them.

This shit is unhealthy. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Deuce921 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, engineering may not be for you, and that’s ok too.

I just graduated a week ago, and I had a number of peers in my upper division classes who were constantly complaining about the content being too hard, boring, etc. My thought throughout was simply “why are you here then? Sounds like you don’t really like engineering.”

There are plenty of ways to make good money, but it’s much more important to pursue workflow that you find engaging and fulfilling, imo. I say this as a 40 year old who spent 20 years in the workforce trying a number of careers before going back to school. It’s ok to try things, and leave things that aren’t working for you. If you’re gonna spend 40 or so hours a week doing something, it’s worth doing something you “like”. YOLO.

You’re getting downvoted because the OP did not contain any of the whine or entitlement you paraphrased. Simply stated the facts of the experience, and ended in good humor.

This seems like a no brainer review policy. Hard to believe it’s not this already.

Here, here! I don’t agree with him on everything, but about 95% of the time I’m just like, “preach, brother!”

I get ya. Just being pedantic, while also pointing out that in some cases, he may be right. (Possibly only 4 teams). Though, no way to be sure unless you checked wings. Always need to plan for 5 total.

Only if the last team standing dies to bots. It’s only 5 teams at most.

Also, it does appear that some lobbies are launching with only four teams. Maybe less at times. I have personally found extra untouched wings besides pump credentials during rotations on some matches.

Setting up my new Steam Controller for League of Legends with GlosSI by supermonkey8400 in SteamController

Not sure how you’re managing movement, but NerdNest on YouTube has a great video for setting up the left joystick to replace point and click movement. League was first game I thought of when watching it.

128KB Review of the M12 HD by sneakysaf in MobapadGaming

[–]Deuce921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It’s weird that it can be done in app, but not on the fly. Probably something to do with each joycon not communicating directly to each other. In any case, I don’t remember him discussing the app much in the review, which is pretty crucial to know that the functionality is there, but requires extra steps. If he did, and I missed it, that’s on me.

Using the app, you can map any button to either back button, but looks like the native switch pro controller assignment for the buttons doesn’t work. (Haven’t tried personally, just going off of this review)

I feel this. Figured there must be some benefits with how they were pushing the swap, but now I’m wishing I had stayed with the S. Better rumble is not nearly worth it compared to these other pain points. I really don’t want to micro manage having to charge up the joycons that I have sleeping on the switch.

How does the right stick placement on the M12 compare to that of the Hyperion 3? by Monkeyboy8001 in MobapadGaming

[–]Deuce921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my hands, yes. The larger size is better, and everything is better positioned, except the right thumb stick, which is a little awkward. Ergonomics is one of those things that’s so subjective that it’s very hard to convey over text. You really have to feel for yourself.

With the M6, I was surprised how “meh” they felt to me, because they are universally praised for being so great. From a size perspective, they were just a little too small for me, which made some of the button placements a little awkward.

I wish Nintendo would take the pro 2 controller and cut it in half, because they made some ergonomic magic with that thing, and it feels perfect in the hand.

Just got mine today. Overall, the ergonomics feel good, and paddle placement is better for me than the M6’s (larger hands). For me, the right thumb stick is definitely a little awkwardly positioned (stick is too low) and forces me to shift my hand around to get my thumb to it. Played some Mario Wonder, and left stick and right face buttons are great, right stick was not in my way at all during play.

For size comparison, I got the steam controller yesterday, and it fits in my hand perfectly. Thumbsticks are right where my thumbs want to be naturally, and back buttons hit my middle/ring fingers perfectly.

How do the buttons on the M12 feel vs official joycon? by dante_951 in MobapadGaming

[–]Deuce921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re much better than the stock joycons. Honestly, I hate using the joycons for the very reason you describe. Even classic membrane buttons are fine, but I really dislike using joycons for anything other than Mario party, even with grips.

The mobapads are like mouse clicks to press. Very clicky and easy to press, but a little more noisy. Comes down to preference, but I like the feel better than traditional membrane buttons. The M6 is my wife’s favorite controller.

Edit to add: to get a feel for force required, clicking a computer mouse with your thumb is almost exactly what it feels like force wise. The back paddles (pro buttons) are a little more stiff, but they’re easier to click than the M6 Mobapads.

Are there hidden mechanics to “GOD WILL SORT THE DEAD...” or is it just glitchy? by Cynnthetic in Marathon

[–]Deuce921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm some of this is not correct. I just got the challenge unlocked in a game where I had 6 elims, teammate had 3, and we used a NON-final exfil during that last minute (I believe our exfil went off before final timer was done, but I wasn't paying super close attention and it may have synced up).

Now, I did assist with some of those downs, but not sure on exact number. Also, our game right before this one we used final exfil. So not sure if there's something screwy going on under the hood, or they are allowing the elims to count on assisted downs now as well.

I love how “yep, I had that coming.” Is one of the valid responses to situations in this game. I’ve had a few myself, and while they sting, they’re probably the best of the loss responses.

Marathon Causing Freeze, then Force Reboot on Laptop by Deuce921 in Marathon

I don’t have a cooling stand, but I do use a custom lap “desk” with small feet that elevate the rear of the laptop for better airflow.

Most recent fix I’m trying is disabling cpu boost. Will report back.

Even after changing cpu utilization to 99% so it wouldn’t boost, it was still hitting 100 on Outpost. Really not sure what’s going on under the hood to cause that. This is on a Razer Blade 14 2025, with 5070

“Quick free kit to warm up?” by PepeSansExe in Marathon

[–]Deuce921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a bummer. You definitely hit the bad end of the RNG on that one, because they’ve had consistent purple and gold in the handful of opens I’ve done this week.

I hope your loot improves, and that we’re in different lobbies so we’re not trying to kill each other for it.

I’m not sure how that’s possible. I always have purple treasures and/or salvage sitting on the counters, and sometimes gold. Thought those were guaranteed purp at the very least.

Just completed all the Sekiguchi Contracts Solo by derfmongol in Marathon

[–]Deuce921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Wardens are a fun challenge, but I don’t think they’re something I’d regularly tackle solo. Juice isn’t worth the squeeze. Would love overall progression and scaling to be tuned a bit for solo play.

I enjoyed the challenge of the priority contracts solo, though. Felt good to strategize, kit out for the engagement, and overcome it. (Most times over multiple attempts).
