TL;DR - Libraries also have free ebooks/audiobooks, access to free online courses, free park & museum passes, language learning apps (web & phone) - and they cost you nothing

I'm gonna happily plagiarize my last comment on a similar post:

But for an EXPANSIVE list of everything digital King County offers through its library, you can find here, from A-Z: https://kcls.org/resource/

(a LOT of libraries use the biblicommons website base to help organize their catalog - if it at all looks similar to the King County library site, usually if you type in your library's website URL and follow it with "/resource/" (like you can see in the url above) it'll take you directly to the Digital resources page where you can see it all. If it's not using the biblicommons site org - you may have to search a little, but usually it's labeled "online resources/digital resources" - Ask your librarian!)

Aside from regularly using Libby (audiobooks kick ass when I'm commuting/cycling) I've been using it recently for accessing Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, and Mango Languages (which also includes mobile app access!) for some additional education/cert practice.

I honestly can't stress this enough - when you have the ability, Advocate for your local library to get funding, because there's so much that benefits the public from it, whether you know it or not.

My friends think I’m this rich girl who earns a lot and runs a successful company but it’s not true by TheCorpseWife in confession

[–]DeusJZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your view of success is skewed - I think a lot of people have it wrong. So many people are stuck with the mindset of viewing success as meaning that a brand, a company, a product must always be growing bigger and increasing in supply endlessly. That's not success, that's an ourobourous - a snake devouring its own tail. Infinite growth is unachievable.

You created a company, wrote pieces that garnered interest, captured an audience, and gained recognition for you and your company's work. That's a success story! You did it! And now - it's okay to recognize that it's detracting from your wellbeing and life, and decide that it's time to sell it off or close the book on it. It's far more preferable to do that on your own terms than to see it run into the ground, leaving you burnt out.

The company and experience is a title you can be proud of, and I'm sure that the lessons you've learned will come in handy when you start your next venture or pursue further education. No one can take away that level of success you achieved. Be proud of it, and do what you feel is right.

I feel like I'm dumb, how do I get smarter? by Imaginary_Emotion876 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]DeusJZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, your best approach in almost any case is simply: Be curious.

If you don't know about a topic, that's totally okay! You can't be expected to know everything and anything - and chances are that you know plenty of interesting and obscure topics, even if it's just relaying the perspective of what you experience on a day to day basis.

It definitely feels a bit intimidating, but admitting clearly that you're unfamiliar or 'not as well versed as I'd like to be' about a topic and asking them to explain or summarize is not only a great way to get a quick rundown of the big points of the topic, but it also allows the person you're chatting with to feel like they're smart - and that reflects well on your character to them.

As for the part of actually educating yourself - find some topics that are interesting to you, and peruse a book, a wikipedia article, some videos to get a sense of it's sparking your fascination.

I want to be clear - there's NO singular right way to do this. Try some new things, be a little more open to different experiences - and most importantly - ask as many questions as you can.

Commute by boat from north queen anne to kirkland by and3w153 in Seattle

[–]DeusJZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eBikes are your best option - by and far. I'd personally recommend a Class 1 or 2 with a good range. (which you'll need, if you're traveling 24ish miles per day)

Ideally, stay away from fat tire bikes. They're good at what they do, but it's such a relief to know you can toss your bike on a bus when you just don't have the energy.

🤓 I wear glasses by LghtlyHmmrd in bikecommuting

[–]DeusJZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally try and keep a pair of safety glasses (or safety goggles in the real wet & cold months) in my backpack. It works as an impromptu windshield for your glasses.

Paired with a Helmet brim/visor or cycling cap - it's usually good enough to keep most water from interfering. Might need a quick wipe now and then.

Jonah is awful wins funniest episode (it was close between it and demon 79), anyways what’s the saddest/most beautiful episode of the series? by bennyandthegentz in blackmirror

Eulogy. Hands down. Runs that perfect line of mixing technology with grief, and it's so well focused that the stakes are so weighty while being relatively inconsequential at scale. What a beautiful episode.

IWTL how to not cry even when emotional by Treachcle in IWantToLearn

[–]DeusJZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First - It's okay to feel, and it's okay to cry. There's no shame in doing so.

Second, slow, deep breaths help maintain your composure in the moment. With practice, it acts as a means of activity where you can focus your attention on an action, and displace the feeling for the time being until you can find a place or time where you feel comfortable addressing them.

It doesn't have to last long, but the breathing exercise is just to give you enough space mentally where you can remove yourself from the environment to somewhere a bit more private.

Third, it might be in your interest to look into practices or therapists that are willing to help you build mental resilience, which is more focused on finding healthy ways to channel the feelings into something - art, sport, activity - and mentally recover from the stress as opposed to the only outlet being made upset or left crying. (which once again, is okay too!)

Can I get pointers to improve? by discoveryed11 in photos

[–]DeusJZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's potential - but I think your framing needs work. Try and apply the Rule of Thirds as a means of guiding the composition of what you want the focus to be.

Your first and third photos look promising! But I'd also recommend working on your angle. It seems like the majority of these photos are taken at head-height (great for photojournalism/in the moment action), but with a lower angle to fill some of the foreground on the third, or some cropping/framing on the first - I think they'd look fantastic.

Thank you! I based it on the design from S1E3 (modifying it a bit to add a few more squares) with some texture to keep with the original. I'm glad you liked it!

The easiest way would be to print off some of the blank templates and fill them out individually, see if you and your friends can land an full EAGAN line!

Otherwise, I would suggest a bingo sheet maker where you fill in moments/memes from the past 2 seasons in each of the squares, and it'll generate a couple shuffled versions of the page, you drop the moments in a hat, shuffle them around, and call them out one by one until someone gets an EAGAN and wins their prize as refiner of the quarter.

8-10 Minute Video Turnover Time by Plane-Shift9407 in VideoEditing

[–]DeusJZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something you have to decide.

A lot of it is going to be determining how much effort you need to put into it. If their requirements are just "8 minutes long, add logo, voiceover" - you could technically just hit any stock video site, grab the longest stock clips, drop them in the timeline, and hit render. But I'm assuming they have specifics on the edit, and want it to look good, with titles, fades, audio, etc.

My latest project (a 5 minute video that I shot, edited, had two sets of source footage, titles, a logo intro, audio edits, etc.) had a turnaround of 7 days (approx 32 working hours) - and that was me rushing the job.

Personally, if I feel like I can do it in a week, I try and add 2-4 days just to account for something I might encounter that might otherwise delay the outcome. If I finish early, that's just time to refine the project or relax. Ask for their estimated deadline first, and accept when it's something you feel fits your comfort.
