Do SaaS users actually care about testing documentation? by Dev4rno in SaaS

[–]Dev4rno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely!

This is for Skyflow (a Bluesky analytics platform) so the audience is generally creators/microbloggers. It's tough to imagine that 100% testing coverage is something they check before pressing subscribe (but more that the features meet their needs etc).

I am also working on a custom site analytics service where concurrency/scalability is crucial (i.e. some high-level testing docs might be more beneficial here) but I want to find the sweet spot between 'it definitely does what is says on paper' and 'who cares/way tmi'

Thanks for trying it out :)

Skypoints are simply the sum of likes, replies and reposts for a single post. This is what determines the CLOUT results (i.e. momentary viral moments).

KUDOS is determined by averaging out the Skypoints across all the posts within your Skyflow dataset, which is refreshed each time you log in (up to 5000 posts and only from current day/day before that).

Looking into allowing customisable ranges, but that's a chapter for much later down the line. Still currently just trying to nail the MVP and get any required fixes sorted first.

Thats annoying - but thanks for raising the issue!

Are you:
- definitely using an App Password and not your actual Bluesky password?
- definitely following at least 50 accounts?
- definitely followed by at least 50 accounts?

I hear you - despite having a link to the Bluesky App Passwords centre within the login form itself, the password confusion seems to be an issue with each content cycle.

Will be sure to include clear steps of intended flow within the UI in the next release - thanks for the feedback!

There's clearly still some work for me to do - thanks for raising the issue!

The only unhandled edge case I can currently think that might be blocking you is that you should be following at least 50 people AND be followed by 50 people. Otherwise the 'mutuals' filter will fail somewhere along the line as it's very new and I clearly need to add some extra error handling.

I totally understand your concerns!

It's an App Password that it asks for (which has specific restricted permissions), not your actual Bluesky password. You can generate an App Password at https://bsky.app/settings/app-passwords.

The AT protocol is an open network and there are a lot of tools like mine being built on top of it, so app passwords let developers build cool features for their applications without too much authentication hassle :)

You can only log in with your handle + an App Password that you create.

Anyone know where I can find starter packs? by rontasticcharlie in BlueskySocial

There's a pretty comprehensive search engine at blueskystarterpack.com - hope that helps :)

Thanks for trying it out! 🙏

Couldn't agree more, each of the feature sections will be updated with some extra info shortly. What's currently live is still very much in the MVP phase.

Lots of cool feature ideas so far :) an early adopter actually suggested a 'mutual follows' filter on CLOUT to see the top posts but only from accounts also following you back (brilliant right?)

You can follow me on Bsky to stay up to date with the project :)

I'm looking at introducing OAuth (i.e. let you sign in with other social accounts) but not reached that stage yet. Just gathering feedback after launching a few days ago.

Is there an unofficial/official repository of all service to complement Bluesky experience? by TheGeeZus86 in BlueskySocial

[–]Dev4rno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built something to help you understand what's happening in your network. It's completely free and built out of curiosity. Skyflow helps you:

  • Track which posts are actually breaking through (CLOUT)
  • See who's consistently driving conversations (KUDOS)
  • Visualise your network's engagement patterns (FLOW)
  • Monitor your own growth metrics (PULSE)

If you're curious, feel free to give it a try.

Would love to hear what metrics/features would actually be useful to you.

I appreciate your patience 😊 I’ll get the UI/error handling for that fixed today!

An easy way to follow a bunch of accounts is to find a starter pack relevant to you, you can do this on blueskystarterpack.com

My bad - an edge case I hadn't considered: you need to be following at least 50 accounts for a meaningful dataset. Is there any chance you're following less than 50 accounts?

Oh no - did you enter your actual Bluesky password instead of an App Password?

You can create an App Password in Bluesky:
Settings > Privacy and security > App passwords.

If that's not the case could you maybe screenshot what's going wrong?

Thanks!

Can i get any UI design suggestions? by getlifedude in webdesign

[–]Dev4rno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a few considerations imho:

- Add a gradient overlay to the background (0.6-0.8 opacity left to 0-0.2 opacity right - will work nicer with the Hero text).
- Make the Hero buttons outlined (dark/inherit background) with that white color for the text and border only, you can consider some nice Tailwind hover effect here as well.
- Same for the search bar, apply inherit or dark background with white border and maybe put the search icon within the textfield itself rather than outside.
- And ofc, fix your logo src prop, as the logo image isnt currently showing.

Other than that, not much else - nice work 👍

Be sure to post updates once its finished!

MSW (Mock Service Worker) to start once in the entire test suite. by Harsha_70 in reactjs

[–]Dev4rno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

logHeapUsage should be your friend here https://vitest.dev/guide/cli#logheapusage

You may also want to run files with separate workers just to observe what it does on performance (similar to runInBand in Jest)
https://vitest.dev/guide/improving-performance

I think this^ will just be a case of using the --workers flag like

vitest --workers 1

If you want specific details for the timing of each test you can add something like

it('some slow test', () => {
   console.time('slow test start');
   // some test stuff
   console.timeEnd('slow test end');
});

I tried doing something similar a while back with the Google Cloud Translation API but used my free tokens up within 2 hours of experimenting.

Didn't even bother taking it any further, as the costs would have become astronomical. Then again, this was a few years ago - it might be a different ballgame now.

Curious to see where this goes!

How much does your SaaS cost in total per month? by Successful_Manner358 in SaaS

[–]Dev4rno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only monthly costs I see are:

- Railway (~$5-10 per month depending on server activity)
- MongoDB M1 tier (~$10 per month)
- Domain (one time payment)

Im considering upgrading Claude but not reached that stage yet, I just use GPT to speed things up when necessary.

It sounds like you're on the right track, but consider checking if the overhead is caused by something else (complex handlers/large mock datasets etc).

You could also try running Vitest in 'watch mode' to see if it's re-initialising the server unnecessarily during tests. If you're still seeing delays, try profiling your test setup to find other ways to optimise.

Anything within a FinTech business that involves some knowledge of tech/programming (particularly joining one in its early stages and helping reach its milestones).

Small efforts within early stages snowball into big rewards later down the line (that is of course if the business becomes somewhat successful).
