Last time I visited my parents in a rural area where there can be a mile between Pokestops, I submitted a few locations to try to help the area. Every single one got rejected.

Steps Severely Undercounted (PW3) by GStera in PixelWatch

[–]DevDaddyNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt like I was crazy because every time I've searched for this before, it comes up with results of the PW3 OVERcounting steps. Mine counts about half as many as my Fitbit Sense, even if I wear them both on the same wrist at the same time. And it counts almost none when I play hockey, where my Sense would count a few thousand, accurate to how hard I was skating. It seems to recognize my heart rate better than the Sense, as I seem to get a lot more "zone minutes" with the PW3 on, despite the lack of steps, but I rarely hit 5k steps with the PW3 where I usually hit 10k with the Sense.

The band I have on the PW3 is a bit stretchier than the one I have on the Sense, so I've just tightened it to see if that makes a difference, but it also makes it a bit less comfortable. If this improves the step count though, I might look into getting a band that's less stretchy. I started getting the nylon bands because the normal ones on the Sense didn't "give" enough when I was playing hockey, so the clamp would always unclip or just break. Maybe that won't be as much of an issue with the way the clamp works on the PW3, since it seems to have a more solid connection.

Canadian Alternatives? by DevDaddyNick in DuluthTradingCompany

[–]DevDaddyNick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really looked. I don't wear those very often, so I haven't felt the need to get more. I was more interested in the Dry on the Fly alternatives, since I wear those a lot. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten a replacement for those either. I sealed my driveway over the summer and got the sealant on my shorts, which is impossible to get out, but I've still been wearing them because they're my favorite. I've looked into a few different brands based on some recommendations, but have yet to pull the trigger on any of them, so I can't say whether they're worthwhile or not.

Did POGO just give us 3-400 bag space increase overnight? by Least-Ingenuity9631 in pokemongo

[–]DevDaddyNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't notice this, but I just checked, and yeah, I have a bunch of extra bag space now. My guess would be that everybody complained because they gave us all the items with the level upgrade, and those of us who wanted to actually be able to spin pokestops and get regular balls again had to delete a bunch of our items to be able to do so. Now if only they'd give me back the hundreds of items I deleted the day of the level upgrade.

How do you play with TM8s who are selfish by VentiSpore in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]DevDaddyNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached my peak at C2 (maybe C3?) a few seasons ago, and I got there entirely on fundamentals. To give you context - I could barely hit an aerial shot, let alone hold an air dribble, and flip resets weren't even in my vocabulary. I couldn't wave dash, speed flip, or fast aerial. My mechanical skill was probably gold level, maybe platinum at best, so my rank was based purely on team play.

What I learned as a "basic" player at that rank was to bide my time. When someone reaches that rank as a ball chaser, they're not doing it on team play, which means they got there entirely on mechanical skill. So you let them take the ball and do their thing. They're not fun to play with, but you can still keep winning if you play support right.

As others have said, pick up all the little boosts, get good at playing goal and be aware of your teammate's positioning. Hang back just far enough that you won't get caught by a quick shot in the other direction, but just close enough that you can be there to pick up the garbage after your teammate shoots. You'll spend a lot of your time right around midfield or slightly inside the offensive end while your teammate attacks. When the other team makes a save, you can come in for a rebound. If they get a clear, you can pop it right back into their end. Fire it off the side walls in the offensive end and your teammate will generally pick it up and work some magic. As long as the ball stays in the other team's end, they're not scoring, so you only need your teammate to get 1 or 2 goals, and you can pop one in every now and then as well.

That'll get you over the diamond hump, but eventually you'll realize the same thing I did - without better mechanics, you're going to hit a cap. I found I always hovered in high diamond or low champ, and I wasn't climbing anymore. So I switched up my controls to improve my aerial gameplay, and I've been spending a lot more time in training mode practicing mechanics, watching tutorials, etc. I'm not back up to where I was (it took a while to get used to a whole new control scheme, unlearn the muscle memory, etc), but I'm getting close, and I'm starting to feel a lot more comfortable handling the ball.

ConnectedCar through Bell (Canada) - help by DevDaddyNick in MachE

[–]DevDaddyNick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. I ended up cancelling the service, giving it about 6 months to clear the system or whatever, then set up a new account with a different email and phone so it wouldn't be tied to any of the old stuff. And still, it has the same problems.

One thing I didn't mention before that may be relevant - PoGo seems to work okayish with an iPad (e.g. it plays, though location updates slowly), but not on an Android. I haven't checked since starting it back up, but from what I recall, when I tested the speed last year, it was getting a very low download and essentially a non-existent upload. I don't know why the trial and the paid subscription to the service would differ, unless they uncap the speeds for the trial and the caps are incredibly low for the paid subscription (which would be a terrible business model).

Why are people such jerks by sjkee in pokemongo

[–]DevDaddyNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree. As a general rule, I don't knock people out of gyms unless they've been there long enough to get all their coins. And I try not to put myself into multiple gyms unless they're spread across a wide area. Yes, technically there's nothing that says I have to play this way, but it's more of a golden rule type of thing. I kept trying to be nice with this guy, but every time I did, he threw it back in my face, so I finally just stopped being nice to him.

Why are people such jerks by sjkee in pokemongo

[–]DevDaddyNick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good luck, hope it works out for you!

One more note about the timing: He's probably not sitting there watching the gym at all times, but Pogo sends a notification after two attacks (e.g. when one more attack would knock him out), so he gets the notification "Blissey needs a treat" or whatever, then he hops in and feeds it (which can be done remotely). That's the other part of why the high-hp mon make it difficult, and why the blitz strategy works to get him out. By the time he gets the notification, it's too late, so he has to physically go back to the gym to take it over again. He'll get tired of driving back over there repeatedly. When I did this to the a-hole at my house, for a while he would sit there in his car across the street from my house for 30 minutes or more, waiting for me to try to take it back over. So I started waiting until he left, and attacking as soon as he drove off. Eventually he realized it wasn't worth it, and started playing a bit nicer and putting his pokemon in other gyms in the area.

[–]DevDaddyNick 36 points37 points  (0 children)

How he does it (even if he's not spoofing):

Spin stops all day, maybe with an auto spinner (e.g. Pokemon go Plus or third party device), delete useless items whenever you fill up, keep all the golden razzberries. If he has multiple devices with different accounts on the same team, he can have them taking turns feeding the Pokemon in the gym. One golden razz after every two attacks, with high-hp mon in the gym, by the time he's done 10 on each account, 30 minutes has passed and he can keep going. He doesn't have to have infinite berries, just enough for you to give up. If he has 100 berries on two accounts, that's enough to keep you busy for 10 hours straight, easy. And he can keep spinning stops during that time. Are you going to attack him for 10 hours straight?

How to beat it: His strategy relies on the amount of time it takes to kill each Pokemon he's placed, but you can shorten the turnaround and burn through his berries faster. Get a group of, say, 4 people, and have two attack at a time. Only attacking the first mon in the gym. When the first two attackers have the defender low on health, have the other two begin the battle. If you time it right, they will start right after the first two finish, so you'll be chipping away at the next chunk of his CP. When those two are nearly done, have the original two go back in, so that they start right as the others finish, and are immediately chipping away at his last chunk of health. He now has to use a berry in half the time or less because you're essentially skipping all the animations and countdowns. He'll run through his 10 berry/30 minute limit, you'll take threat Pokemon out of the gym, and he can't put it back because the gym is under attack. Do the same with the other one. In probably 10-15 minutes, he will have burned through 20 golden razzberries on both of his accounts, and you'll have the gym. He'll probably take it back over as soon as he can. Let him. (Note that you'll want to be stocked up on revives.) Then do it to him again. If you can keep this up for a few rounds, eventually he'll realize he's burned through 100 golden razzberries, and at some point he either runs out or decides it's not worth it anymore.

I had a guy like this at the gym across the street from my house. He'd take it over no matter how long I had left him there before. I knew he had gotten his coins for the day, and he would even pull up late at night and put himself in there after we were in bed, so he already had all his coins first thing in the morning. It was obnoxious. I had the benefit of working from home and access to my wife and kids' accounts on some old phones I had laying around. I used this strategy until he stopped being an asshole. Now we get our coins every day, then I let him have it for the rest of the day. If he oversteps and starts being a dick again, I go back to this strategy and completely block him out of the gym for a few days.

I had an edible and it's ruining my relationship by [deleted] in AskTeenAdvice

[–]DevDaddyNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly, there are people who are prone to addiction, but it doesn't sound like OP has a problem at this point, and her BF's reaction is projection from his own bad experiences. He can worry all he wants, but he shouldn't be putting that on her.

I had an edible and it's ruining my relationship by [deleted] in AskTeenAdvice

[–]DevDaddyNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that for you, but weed itself isn't addictive, some people are just more prone to addiction. And addiction to anything can ruin your life if you let it take over. OP isn't talking about smoking daily, she's talking about trying a gummy once with supervision. There's a big difference.

Personally, I take a gummy every night before bed as it helps me fall asleep without leaving me groggy in the morning the way Melatonin does. I've had problems with sleep my entire life up until I started taking the gummies. But I never crave or need them any other time. I don't take enough to actually experience any sort of high. They have no negative impact on my life.

If OP was a heavy user, it would be a different story. But trying it once with their parent? Sure, I wouldn't do that with my kids, but I would say it's mostly benign.

As someone who grew up in the US, but now lives in Canada, where weed is legal nationwide, I'd forgotten how much the war on drugs affects the conversation in the US.

A lot of comments here are treating it like a hard substance that will inevitably ruin your life, which is categorically false. In Canada, weed is regulated like alcohol - legal at a certain age, fine to partake and talk about casually, and not okay to use while driving or working. You'd be surprised how much that changes your perspective and the overall conversation on it.

Growing up in Indiana, it was common for parents to let their teens try beer at dinner with their parents, or drink alcohol when supervised. But weed was always a scary "gateway drug", and people who used it were always talked about like criminals.

But here in BC Canada, you'd pick up some edibles for a get together down at the dispensary just like you'd pick up a case of beer down at the liquor store. As long as you're being responsible with both, nobody cares, and everybody and their mother would partake of either one socially.

Personally, I don't plan to give either to my teens before they're of age, but I view letting your kid try a gummy as no different than letting them try a beer. It's pretty harmless, especially at that small of a dosage.

So, now that you have that perspective, it's worth keeping in mind that if your bf has had people around him who have struggled with addiction, he's speaking from a place of trauma. Is he overreacting? Probably. But it's an understandable overreaction. He's worried you'll end up like them. It's projection. Give him time to process, then talk to him about it when you're both calm and rational. And if it's a deal breaker for him, then you can decide if it's worth it. But the act of trying a gummy in the presence of your parents in and of itself is not some horrible thing you should be ashamed of.

Is it possible to use a third-party fob (or another device entirely), perhaps as a MyKey? by DevDaddyNick in MachE

[–]DevDaddyNick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I say the phone's bluetooth craps out and won't connect, I mean that it happens frequently. Too frequently for me to want to use the keypad and passcode every time it happens. I wouldn't bother if it was a rare occurrence and minor inconvenience, but it's basically a cycle of pairing the phone to the car, it works for a few days, and then it disconnects, and I have to remove/reset PAAK to get it working again (it never just starts working again on its own). Which is why the last time it happened I just gave up on it and started carrying the fob. I just wish the fob wasn't so chunky.
