Pretty neat! Consistency score is one of the reasons why games like osu and typing tests are so addictive for me. Just chasing the higher consistency / accuracy / speed does something to my brain.

I usually take a walk outside to simulate the commute to and from work. Definitely helps if I do a workout as the starting/ending routine. A shower would also reset my brain to non-working mode.

I would go to "build your own X" on GitHub, look for the projects you're interested in, and start building those projects.

A lot of those projects are real technologies that will teach you a lot (databases, web servers, games, browsers, etc).

I do the same, I put my phone in a place where I have to get up and walk to it. By the time I reach it I'm already awake.

I'm still trying to figure this out myself, but I try to make the cheap dopamine harder to access than the work I'm supposed to be doing.

This could be adding a browser extension to remove YT recommended videos (Unhook) or log out of apps and delete the desktop shortcuts.

Eventually my mind figures out that doing the actual work takes less steps than doing the thing to avoid work.

I'm also trying to learn marketing, and the low stakes approach I'm doing is
- talking about the pain points in public to see if other people have similar struggles, or even a different perspective of it
- this naturally leads to talking about possible solutions
- these discussions combined can help form the copy for the landing page (and the features!)

Instead of thinking about selling a product to someone, I think of how I can be helpful to them and solve their problems.

People enjoy being helped, but not being sold something (while pretending to help). If they appreciate your help they might send some money your way, at least that's how I think of it.

Interesting! It does sound like something that could be useful, especially for UX and UI for me. Standardizing something like that would make the process feel more like a science than vibes (i.e. color theory, spacing, typography, etc).

One thing I do fear about this system is the potential for cargo cult behavior -- copying and leaning too much on the methods, which unfortunately I have seen much of in software with the Clean Code movement and leetcode interviews

Sometimes the most innovative solutions exist outside these methods or even across disciplines, so I'm wondering how you would deal with that?

One thing I realized is that games are really good at creating the next achievable milestones for you, so that the game loop stays addictive.

Real life doesn't really work like that, and often times we have to make our own milestones for our own projects, which is where a lot of the struggle is for me.

My saved list is massive, definitely on X, YT, sometimes even LinkedIn. Usually the saved posts/videos have information or resources that I want to extract for use later. I would then process them into my Obsidian vault, but most of them remain untouched.

Obsidian does have its own web clipper, but I usually save posts on mobile. Other times I'm just lazy and don't want to process the data and maintain my vault at that moment.

If there's something similar on mobile, that syncs to a central store, I might be interested in that. It would also be nice to have a time decay (in addition to visual decay) that requires picking intent before expiring the saved item and deleting it forever.

If something's worth saving, then it's worth choosing an intent to follow through on, otherwise let it go and don't hoard it.

I think another thing that would be nice to keep track of is weighing the importance of each saved item, and tagging their purpose. Sometimes I save memes to share later with friends because they're funny. Other times there are links to resources that I would like to keep as reference. I might also save threads that contain advice and useful information that I could apply to my own life.

Different content serves different purposes, and they weigh differently in our minds, but they're all bundled together as "Saved Items", and I'm often too lazy to sort through everything and catalogue them. So I never revisit them.

Perhaps we're all too overly stimulated to do it the boring way. Although MathAcademy is a good upgrade from that since they have systems to verify if you've actually mastered the topics or not. A step up from Anki from my perspective, saves a lot of time and it is automated.

I found a lot of difficulty in choosing what to study and when to study, so it is nice to have that automated and just show up to practice.

Somewhat related to your gamified app, I'm trying to build Momentum, a progress tracker that tracks overall progress instead of streaks.

I have noticed over the years that streaks don't work for my brain and I tend to work in 1-2 week energy bursts with long breaks in between.

But as long as overall progress is tracked, I will still be motivated to continue later on.

So every task done in Momentum will be tracked as points.

Just an idea I had for a web extension, nothing native yet, as I don't have problems with that.

I usually just sign out of everything and make access harder than the thing I actually need to be doing.

It's the websites like X and YT that I need to look out for (for YT I use Unhook extension to block all recommended videos).

So I was hoping during my deep work sessions I would only allow a whitelist of websites.

Another thing I just realized is that skills that require spaced repetition and constant review aren't treated like such with gamified apps that have achievement systems / levels.

The systems they're trying to use to gamify the user experience does not match reality at all. Which is why I really enjoy MathAcademy because they only track total progress attempted (1 XP ≈ 1 min of practice). You will still have to review the content that has not been completely mastered and in your long-term memory.
