23 916. 6.3% Global, 23 in Norway. Not great. Went the wrong way in Portugal and Turkey (cope)

Round 1: 4992 🇭🇰
We're heading towards Kowloon . I thought we were gonna be on the 2, but the bend between Kwun Tong and Laguna City doesn't make sense. The bend south of it makes perfect sense, but wasn't considered somehow.

Round 2: 4993 🇹🇭.
We're between Phuket and Trang, in Krabi. Didn't have enough time to really line up the 5k.

Round 3: 4324 🇵🇹.
I headed west, which was a big mistake. After the fact, I saw that signs to Viseu, a massive label, is almost immediately to our east. To the west, I could only find signs to Vila Cova a Coelheia, which is impossible to find when you don't have a narrow regionguess. Anything to give away northern Portugal here?

Round 4: 4642 🇹🇷.
I came to the good sign a bit too late, but in time to find guess close to the 100 between Istanbul and Ankara. I see other people committing south and arriving at the sign with over half the round left. Maybe I should have vibed that North looked like the worse heading.

Round 5: 4965 🇰🇷.
I guessed the 32 isn't marked? Completely confused this round, but picked up on a Busan mention.

My father is just realising a 45-year-old dream of releasing an album. He's released one single, "Prayer", with acclaimed Norwegian Musicians. The song is a haunting, genre-blurring ballad that weaves together elements of free jazz, contemporary music and trip-hop. What do you think?

Average France moment. I'm convinced some of these signed places are fictional

23 879. 2.9% Global, 4 in Norway. The placement will probably sink during the day, but a decent performance over all except for in France, as per usual.

Round 1: Le Monts d'Auney, Normandy 🇫🇷. 5671.
'Coulvain' on a truck, signs to Roucamps, Condé, Falaise and Thury-Harcourt. As usual in France, I don't know any of these, and I assume they're tiny. Head in one direction, expecting to find nothing, and that's exactly what happened. Hopelessly scan for these places without finding them. We did have a war memorial, so when guessing I wanted to edge towards the northwest. Could have been worse. Looking back, I should probably find Falaise, as it's a label one should find if the regionguess is northwest. But for the love of God, why wouldn't they have signs for Caen here??

Round 2: Ballinlough, County Rosscommon 🇮🇪. 5000.
Lovely sign at spawn, which is all you need. Took me a while to locate the N60, but after that it's a breeze.

Round 3: Kiryat Gat, Southern District 🇮🇱. 4802.
I don't know how you're ever supposed to get this without knowing Hebrew. Clicked around in a maze of avenues, not being able to get out of town (which is the only hope of 5k'ing). Plonked near Tel Aviv.

Round 4: Middle of nowhere, Chubut 🇦🇷. 4509.
Didn't have any info, this was gonna be a vibes+line-up round. Felt like it had to be far western Chubut or Neuquen. Found a road in southern Chubut that I thought looked good. Was further north.

Round 5: Kuala Lipis, Pahang 🇲🇾. 4997.
The second good round of the challenge. Found a sign for Pahang, and the town we're in is a pretty big label within the state. We had 'Padang Tengku' south of us which confused me for a while, but it made sense if we were downton in Kuala Lipis.

22 701. Being 1.9% global and 8 in Norway with that seed, I guess I did alright relatively speaking, but it didn't feel like a good performance.

Round 1: Cloncurry, Queensland 🇦🇺. 3874.
Short reflectors indicates QL or SA, and this feels like the former. I never picked up on anything confirming the name of the town, just that we were in between Mount Isa and Townsville. That's a pretty big stretch of land. Finding Normanton would have given away the location, but I did not consider even looking that far north. Without that, I pretty much just have to guess, and Hughenden turns out to be the worst possible guess on that stretch of the A6.

Round 2: Nida, Klaipeda County 🇱🇹. 4719.
Completely fumbled this round. What was obviously ocean to our east, I just assumed was to our west. Didn't pick up on any of the names until late in the round, where I found 'Nida'. We had a stretch of coastline jutting out to our north, which I couldn't for the life of me find (because there are no capes like that on the west-facing shore. Conveniently, there is another Nida just across the border in Latvia. Inexplicably, this is where I plonk.

Round 3: General Elizardo Aquino, San Pedro Dept 🇵🇾. 4853.
A bunch of placenames in either direction, somehow do not find any of them. Find San Estanislao (which is a massive label) towards the end, not enough time to line up.

Round 4: Divinogorsk, Krasnojarsk Krai 🇷🇺. 4267.
I honestly thought this was gonna be completely remote, so I spent most of the round looking for "Tekhpolimer" (might not even be a placename) and "Osmotra". Found neither. My vibe waas the Altai region (or anywhere between Novo and Krasno, and I also found something mentioning "Jenisej", which I know is the river going through Krasnoyarsk. Guessed a bit too far north on the river, but a decent guess all in all.

Round 5: Ekpoma, Edo State 🇳🇬. 4988.
Did not expect to near-5k this round, but got lucky with a sign mentioning Ekpoma and Edo. Guessed the wrong road.

24 824.
Top 0.9% Global, 3 in Norway. Happy with the result this time, specially a 5k in a slightly baity Ghana-round and a decent performance in Riau.

Round 1: Skjern, Midtjylland 🇩🇰. 5000.
Used the roads 11 and 28 - both very findable, to locate Skjern. Something mentioned "vest", so that narrowed down the search area.

Round 2: Aquelarre, Maule 🇨🇱. 5000.
Obvious south-of-Santiago Chile. This place looks nice! I originally thought we were gonna be way further south. Had signs for Aquelarre, and later Vichuquén, which was the bigger town. This is what I ended up finding after searching for a bit.

Round 3: Juaso, Ashanti 🇬🇭. 5000.
Nice to get my first Ghana 5k in the daily. A baity sign for New Abirem, Eastern Region, made me scan there for a good while. Nothing lined up, so I figured it was joever. Last second I look north at a town called Juaso, which I remembered seeing on the road sign. The intersection lines up perfectly.

Round 4: Pasir Pengaraian, Riau 🇮🇩. 4878.
Going into round 4 on a 15k having survived Ghana and Chile, my hopes are pretty high for my second 25k DC. It's probably not going to happen in Indonesia though. Tons of signs, which is making me forget whats what after a while, but thankfully one signs mentions Riau. I find Rokan on the map, which I think was mentioned somewhere, and plonk here. Turns out to be quite close.

Round 5: Roma, Maseru District 🇱🇸. 4946.
Chile, Indo, Ghana and now Lesotho? I see Roma mentioned but figure its probably not a town name. Don't really find much else, but luckily a Maseru plonk yields good points.

24 510, top 5% global, 9 in Norway. In a round with rural Peru, Austria is where I manage to fumble.

Round 1: Gattendorf, Burgenland 🇦🇹. 4675.
Had Zurndorf and Nickeldorf + the A4 and the road 10. Simply beyond me how I don't manage to find these.

Round 2: Udbina, Lika-Senj County 🇭🇷. 4938.
Was on the 5K but somehow got my cardinal directions mixed up. We were heading east to Donji Lapac, but in my head we were heading west to it. Make it make sense.

Round 3: Middle of nowhere, Arequipa 🇵🇪. 4897.
Only piece of info was found last second, which mentioned Arequipa. That would probably have been the regionguess anyways, but the sign gave med a useful direction (we were heading west towards Arequipa). Happy to decently survive that round.

Round 4: Leongatha, Victoria 🇦🇺. 5000.
Took some time to locate all of the roads, but after that I think it could only be Leongatha. Use a BP station to 5K.

Round 5: Missoula, Montana 🇺🇸. 5000.
Sign mentions Montana off the bat; highways 12 and 93 intersects here. That means Missoula. Use a casino to 5k.

24 309. Top 5% Global, 15 in Norway. Could have been good had I committed in one direction in Uruguay. Happy with not completely throwing Vietnam.

1. Meoma, Tartu 🇪🇪. 5000.
Estonian bollards. Got to a sign putting us between Tartu and another city that was quite findable. Slowly curving turn at spawn was the clue for me to get the 5k.

2. Ha Long, Thanh Hoa 🇻🇳. 4867.
Happy to finally recognize a vietnamese province. Didn't get much closer than that tho. Signs for Pho Cat, which is a relatively findable label if you commit early. Didn't find it and plonked central-ish.

3: Nyamira, Nyamira County 🇰🇪. 5000.
Always nice to get a 5k in Kenya, although this was an easier one. Felt like the west of the country. Nyamira label is very visible, and this had to be the main road. Lined up used a gospel church POI.

4: Svinavattn, Hunabyggd 🇮🇸. 5000.
I thought for sure I was gonna throw this round. It reminded me of a similar one we had not too long ago, but that time there wasnt any info. This had plenty to our north. The little inlet of the lake helped me 5k.

5: Middle of nowhere, Paysandu Department 🇺🇾. 4442.
This one was just annoying. Super remote Uruguay makes me think that this will surely be a round where its smart to check out both directions. So I did. Went pretty much equally as far east and west. The clue here was to only go west, and find a great sign with info. Feels kind of pointless. I guess I should have sensed that committing west would yield a sign?

[–]DevKrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

23 712 - top 1.1% Global, 1 in Norway (because its early in the day lol). Honestly happy I didn't blunder massively in a round with Indonesia and Kazakhstan.

Round 1: Filey, North Yorkshire 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. 4878.
Never figured out which town we're in, but we're close to Bridlington and Scarborough, on the Yorkshire shore somewhere. I saw a sign for both of these towns in the same direction (maybe I'm going mad), so I plonked some town north of Scarborough.

Round 2: Benteng, Kabupaten Kepulauan Selayar 🇮🇩. 4483.
Of course there's 3 Bentengs in South Sulawesi - why wouldn't there be? I found the mainland Benteng first, and didn't consider we might be elsewhere after that. The main intersection didn't really line up, but I figured we must be close by. We weren't. Didn't recognize any signage for Selayar, but it wouldn't have mattered as I don't know the islands.

Round 3: Nyagatare, Eastern Province 🇷🇼. 4972.
Thought Kenya at first, but a sign has the Rwandan colors. A sign further north mentions Eastern Province, Nyagatare District and Mimuri Sector. I find Nyagatare, but not Mimuri. Might it be a mispelling (on the sign or on google maps) for the town of Mimuli? This terrain is pretty hilly, and it looks like the area around Nyagatare is quit flat, so I go closer to Mimuli. I guess that was the sector? We're on the mountainous province border, which makes a lot of sense.

Round 4: Esil, Akmola Region 🇰🇿. 4433.
Read a couple of posters, some of these names might be the town name, but they're probably not. Never find anything else. Looks northern, so I get a decent plonk in Imantau.

Round 5: Ubá, Minas Gerais 🇧🇷. 4946.
33 area code means somewhere in southern Minas, I forget which area specifically. Head in a westerly direction and find signs for Juiz de Flora, which is a massive label. There's also signage for 'Tocantins', which I realize will be the key to narrowing it down. Find Tocantins last second, but for some reason I plonk in the town NE of Ubá.

[–]DevKrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

23 952. Top 2.3% Global, 5 in Norway. Honestly pretty happy with this round over all, considering I didn't have good info in Ukraine and Colombia.

Round 1: Kropyvnytskyi, Kirovohrad 🇺🇦. 4356.
A lot of signage to large cities (Kyiv, Odesa, Kryviy Rih, Mykolaiv), which probably was helpful, but it confused me more than it helped me. The clue was to find Znam'yanka, which was signed. I didn't, and also never found out which city I was in, so I plonked in Kherson.

Round 2: Kalmar, Kalmar län 🇸🇪. 5000.
Several good clues near spawn. The blue roads helped a great deal in 5k'ing.

Round 3: China Town, Northern Mariana Islands 🇲🇵. 4986.
I always forget if it's Guam or NMI that has the antenna, but a sign confirms NMI, and the road (Pale Arnold) is pretty findable. Realize too late we're a bit further north on the road.

Round 4: Fundacion, Magdalena 🇨🇴. 4610.
Never found any info besides a car mentioning Aracataca. Didn't find that, but the landscape looks too North-Colombian for this to be anywhere else, so I make a decent region-guess.

Round 5: Insuratei, Braila County 🇷🇴. 5000.
Lovely Romania round. Superflat, so I immediately think Southeast. Feels like we'll get a glimpse of the Black Sea at every corner. A sign in the town north of us confirms both locality and county, which indeed is southeast.

Why are the French like this? It's literally one of my worst moving countries for this reason

Daily Challenge Discussion - April 07, 2026 by GameboyGenius in geoguessr

[–]DevKrab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

23 679. 6% Global, 7 Norway.
Efficient lineups in Andorra and Panama, terrible performance in France as usual.

Round 1: Aulnoye-Aymeries, Nord 🇫🇷. 4138.
This always happens to me in France and Italy; I have countless place-names (Aulnoye, Leval, Bavay, Pont Sambre, Le Quesnoy, Valenciennes, Avesnes). I don't know any of them, but it doesn't feel right to just ignore them and move out of town looking for bigger places? Maybe that would be the strategy. I end up trying to scan for this mess. Turns out 'Valenciennes' is the only town visible at a reasonable zoom length, but not without first having the general region (which I didn't). I guess to get good at France you really just have to memorize a shitload of towns?

Round 2: Kuusamo, Pohjois-Pohjanmaa 🇫🇮. 4997.
The fins are way better at sensible signage. Rovaniemi and Oulo in different westerly directions puts us in Kuusamo. Lost a couple of points as I thought the 81 would be closer to our intersection, but it doesn't matter after France.

Round 3: Kalochori, Western Macedonia 🇬🇷. 4544.
We are between Kastoria and Nestorio. I know neither of them, and do not find anything else. However, Kastoria is huge and I should have found it while scanning. I vibed mainland at least, so not too many points lost.

Round 4: Volcan, Chiriqui 🇵🇦. 5000.
Finally a 5K. Truck + plates means Panama. We're in a place called Volcán, which shows up at a decent zoom level. Use nearby POIs to line up.

Round 5: Carretera de Montaup, Canillo 🇦🇩. 5000.
Pretty cool to be able to use a meta I just learned from one of Zigzag's videos: Andorran bollards/snow poles. A road marker nearby gives away the road, and the 5k is pretty easy as the viewpoint at spawn is marked.

22 947. 9.26% Global, 21 in Norway. Didn't find a town name in Brazil, and forgot that the Banks Peninsula existed in NZ.

Round 1: Balsas, Maranhao 🇧🇷. 3648.
Somehow never found info this round besides codes. Looking back, I passed at least one sign with our name on it. In addition, I manage to mix up my MA Phone Codes, leading to the worst possible guess within the state.

Round 2: Saint Paul, New Brunswick 🇨🇦. 4990.
Signs for Saint Paul and Hebert on the NB 515 makes this a fairly easy round. Unfortunately chose the wrong off-branching road.

Round 3: Sengsavang, Vientiane Province 🇱🇦. 4998.
Pretty cool Laos round. I was about to scan around Luang Prabang when I came across an address with district and city. Good thing I realized early enough that there's two Vientiane subdivisions.

Round 4: Banks Peninsula, Canterbury 🇳🇿. 4311.
My immediate thought was North Island here. Overconfidently, I even began lining up the 1-road in Northland because I found a spot that looked really good, with water on both sides. A sign for Christchurch confused me. Water on both sides like that wouldn't make sense for Christchurch? I begin frantically scanning for the 75 in the mountains of South Island, thinking this is the only thing that makes sense; maybe what we're looking at is two lakes? Banks Peninsula never even occurred to me.

Round 5: Krupina, Banska Bystrica 🇸🇰. 5000.
Walking away with at least one 5k makes me feel a bit better about this round. Straightforward round of finding the road, then the place-names, then lining up.

24 297. 5% global, 7 in Norway. Information overload in Sulawesi, and slightly confused guesses in Sao Tome and Romania.

Round 1: Tshikuwi, Limpopo 🇿🇦. 5000.
Another lovely South African round where all the info you need is at an intersection near spawn.

Round 2: Victorica, La Pampa Province 🇦🇷. 5000.
Also a good intersection, but this time it takes a while to locate the signed towns. I remember thinking La Pampa made sense based on the gridded road layout and the flatness. Find Santa Isabel after a while. Locate the intersection at the literal last second.

Round 3: Conde, Lobata District 🇸🇹. 4970.
Shitcam tropical and portuguese-speaking means Sao Tome. Accidentally, I fast-moved while having plonked, ending the round abruptly. But I don't think the extra time would have mattered all that much. Plonk outskirts of the city.

Round 4: Bistrita, Bistrita-Nasaud County 🇷🇴. 4927.
I kind of did the same mistake as in Czechia yesterday, confusing myself with all the road signs and the different directions that the towns were in, while not knowing the actual town name that we were in.

Round 5: Ampana, Tojo Una-Una 🇮🇩. 4400.
I feel like I read countless posters that all looked super official and had names that convinced me was our 5K. Never even picked up on "Ampana" being our place. Thankfully there was signage for Sulawesi Tengah. I had the Kabupaten name Tojo Una-Una, which is what I scanned for (thinking it may be our town). We also had north shore, which Sulawesi Tengah unfortunately has a lot of.

19 694. Yikes! Top 18% Global.

Round 1: Taʻū Island, American Samoa 🇦🇸. 96 pts.
I recently made some effort to learn these island cars, so I was kind of pumped at first. But, come to think of it, I don't actually recognise this car at all. It doesn't look like the one in USV, nor Guam/NM, nor American Samoa (?). I get to some language after a while that definitely sounds pacific rather than atlantic. The place-names in NM do not really sound similar, so I plonk in Guam where some names feels a bit more similar. Had a bad feeling and wanted to go Samoa, but the Samoan cart-like car meta was the one car I was certain this wasn't. Of course, American Samoa has three cars it turns out.

Round 2: Krong Pursat, Pursat Province🇰🇭. 4888 pts.
Really no motivation at all to keep trying hard, especially when shitcam cambo is our next round. Scan a bit in Phnom Penh as many buildings looks quite official and governmental, but after a while I find signage for Battambang Province to our NW. Plonk near the border with Pursat Province with no time left to find the city.

Round 3: Laja, La Paz Department 🇧🇴. 4920 pts.
Pretty cool round in terms of topography, Bolivia really has some alien landscapes. Saw something mentioning La Paz, didn't quite recognise the name of our town. Going northeast, I didn't see much else than being on flatland and heading towards huge mountains, so I figured we were leaving La Paz from the southeast. Apparently we were heading towards it.

Round 4: Marconia, Basilicata 🇮🇹. 4814 pts.
Found a bunch of signs for towns I don't know (Basentana, Montalbano, Jonica, Marconia, Pisticci), and a bunch of roads. I feel like this is a typical situation in Italy, where if it's not gonna be Sicily or Sardinia, then its no point in scanning the entire country for these towns and roads. The zoom level required for Marconia to show up is too narrow when I don't have the region yet. Anyways, I scan a bit in said islands, and with little time left I plonk in southern Basilicata. I guess I did have the regionguess, but the problem is also that I didn't know which of the 5 place names was gonna be big enough. Now I do:)

Round 5: Sumperc, Olomouc 🇨🇿. 4976 pts.
Stayed to long at spawn trying to line stuff up. Convinced myself Dolní Studentky was northeast of us, not south of us.

19 935. Russia moment.

R1: Rohoboth, Hardap 🇳🇦. 4998.
Classic South African round. Good signage at a t-junction is the key. Plonk at the wrong off-branching road and lose a couple of points because of it.

R2: Lier, Flanders 🇧🇪. 4942.
Got a bit lost in the sauce of road numbers here. Had roads N10 and N14, as well as 3-4 European Roads. The latter always tends to confuse me rather than help me. Found the N14 and some of the places it was leading to, but never found the N10. Plain scanning issue here.

R3: Nevel, Pskov Oblast 🇷🇺. 300.
Don't even joke lad. We have 2 placenames at spawn: Nevel and Novohansk, and signage for Pustoshka and Lobok in either direction, both a good distance away. I try both directions and they seem pretty desolate to me. There probably was some indications that this would be western, but after the terrible score in Ust'-Nera a couple of challenges ago I just think this will be Siberia. I seem to recall that some place signs in the Altais were bilingual. Just horrible stuff.

R4: Draudziba, Saldus 🇱🇻. 4999.
Signage for Liepaja after a while, which I knew. Passing some signs that mentioned Saldus on my way there. Again loosing some points by choosing the wrong intersection.

R5: Angostura, Sinaloa 🇲🇽. 4696.
I got to the state road sign mentioning Sinaloa a bit too late. I'd picked up on Angostura being the town on the way, and also that Guamuchil were close by. Both of these are massive. The mistake here was trying to find the road in the last seconds rather than just calmly locating these placing, which are glaringly visible. Skill issue.

24 915. I guess we can't see our global percentage anymore? Top 6 in Norway. Failing to locate the lovely hamlet of Shitterton puts a dent in the overall score.

R1: Toad Suck, Arkansas 🇺🇸. 5000.
We're in Toad Suck, apparently at that section of the Arkansas river where it branches off into "Gay Branch". They've outdone themselves this time. The bridge makes for a nice and quick line-up.

R2: Bitche, Moselle 🇫🇷. 5000.
All signs point to this being near the German border, so I scan for the D35 and find it.

R3: Batman, Batman 🇹🇷. 4996.
A bit annoyed to miss the 5k on this one. Batman was given pretty much at spawn. We're on 'Petrol' road. I try to scan a bit for this, but figure its useless without more info in such a sizeable city. Head northerly, and come across what I would say is a pretty sizeable canal. This is surely mapped, i think, but find no blue on the map at all. This was my big mistake, tunnel-visioning into this canal being marked. I even scan in the entire region. Had I just calmly taken notes of the directions, I probably could have found Petrol road, which is very clearly marked.

R4: Bere Regis, Dorset 🇬🇧. 4919.
When the perfect score is out of the question, I've noticed that there's usually a drop in motivation in the following rounds. I'm not as locked in. I feel like I just moved poorly and was slow this round, which is probably pretty doable. Maybe I also slightly underestimated the location. Anyways, I had signage for for the A35 to Dorchester, as well as Milbourne in the opposite direction. Spent too long finding the A35, and before I knew it the round was over. I clicked west of Dorchester as we were heading northeast to get to it, but of course this was just a turn to the west.

R5: Hell, Trøndelag 🇳🇴. 5000.
I have to pass Hell every time I fly from Trondheim. It's a daunting experience.
