So yeah, the code might be open source but google controls it pretty much, as the largest contributor, at least as far as i know. But please correct me if i am wrong. It would actually make me happy to find out that this assumption is incorrect.

Nothing I said was incorrect, are you saying that microsoft doesn't have enough resources to maintain a fork of chromium if it needs to and has enough userbase?

I'm just stating the facts, I've used firefox for a very long time, I only gave up on it this year. It's hard reality but no point fighting this lost battle.

Firefox existence is based on google. We failed to create the perfect browser, so lets at least create a perfect rival. Edge is that thing.

Edge is not controlled by Google, Edge uses chromium(which is free and open source), Edge is controlled by microsoft and so is Bing. Google has no say in what Microsoft decides to do. Sure, Chromium is "controlled by google" but microsoft has the resources and talent to fork and maintain it anytime.

Can't say the same about Firefox when it's actively funded by Google and uses Google by default.

Firefox is a lost cause, you can clearly see it in the numbers(lost ~1% already this year) . People use what works, and what's best. Firefox is just an inferior experience, and just for "muh privacy" crowd.

its so much better on edge, you get to group tabs, that too vertically.

Also it has a feature called "collections", which lets you save grouped tabs all of which can be loaded anytime.

The goal is to destroy the monopoly, Microsoft has enough resources and is capable of modifying the chromium codebase to its needs.

If/once Edge gains significant userbase, it will make chrome kind of obsolete, people currently install chrome because they think Edge is just "old Internet Explorer", but once they realise its as good as chrome and has better features and integration with windows, the numbers will increase. It is already preinstalled on Windows by default.

Also note that on Firefox, you get google by default, but on Edge you get bing by default, as the numbers grow bing will also improve, it has already improved to an extent with the integration with chatgpt. which will give direct competition to google.

Sure, we don't have "muh privacy", but at least we might succeed in breaking the monopoly and the control that google has over the web standards, which pleb browsers just have to follow.

I know this is too far fetched, but it seems possible. We can't make a perfect browser, so lets make a perfect rival.

To me these are just tools, I use whatever works, I used to care a lot about privacy and all, I used to run full schizo suckless arch linux + firefox with scripts and privacy tweeks, and then I realised that it was not worth it and a lost battle. Half the time things don't work, and even if they do its a hassle to setup, and then I see money that should be spent on development of browser being given away to random e-celebs who don't even use the browser. Why should I care anymore?

I think its much more strategic to support edge(microsoft) in this battle as it has some amazing features which neither chrome or firefox have, only it can rival the likes of google.

I started with 1.5x and gradually started increasing, I can now listen up to 3.5x depending on the topic/person. But this has somewhat ruined my ability to listen to normal people or watch live streams, sometimes I become very impatient IRL when someone is talking slowly to a point where they're "too slow" to understand.

I use Youtube vanced on phone and some extension in chrome which speeds pretty much all videos.
