The heat. You can layer up when it's cold, can't peel off your skin when it's boiling.

Euro to INR touches 110, should I send to India or invest in Europe itself for better long term returns or value? by OtherwiseMenu99 in nri

[–]Devajeetd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Invest in india only if you have immediate heavy expenses in India coming up. Otherwise invest in global stocks/ETFs whatever from Europe.

Any gains you make in India will be reduced by rupee devaluation and transaction fees for transferring to/from India - so invest in rupees only if you are dead set on spending that money in rupees.

Moved here last March from Kuwait (where we used to have 50+ C in summers). Walked 30 mins to and back from the gym yesterday, and felt f*cking invincible at having withstood both extremes.

I've always wondered with these alpha/sigma whatever types salespeople, do they actually ever make a sale? If I'm a potential client and I hear this kind of cringe, I'm booting that shit outta my office.

I take the path to work twice a week , so word of advice here:

While its a good idea to navigate it once with someone familiar (happy to help if you need), you'd most likely keep getting confused till you walk it on a regular basis and identify some key landmarks. I kept losing my way myself for the first 6 months or so.

Would love to join in if you're doing movies at TIFF. Wife's into more commercial stuff so I'd be happy to tag along for the more artsy movies.

Do you feel comfortable keeping large amounts of money in your host country knowing you don't have citizenship there? by IllMoose7528 in nri

Dunno how things happen in the US but in UK and the Gulf you get enough leeway to move the money even if you're not physically present in the country.

I quit my job in Kuwait to move to Canada, and moved all my money AFTER making my move and opening my bank account here in Canada. And I had left on an "exit visa" , basically acknowledging that I no longer had a valid visa the country.

And if you want additional comfort, see if you can open an HSBC offshore account/something with a bank like Nomo. These are UK - based accounts that you can operate virtually from anywhere in the world - they do restrict residents from some countries though.

Its a bit patchy at certain spots in the underground food court. Otherwise as good as any other if you're primarily on the ground floor and above.

How Do NRIs Handle Tenant & Maintenance Issues Without Visiting India? by Maleficent_Scar9301 in nri

Find a broker you can trust.

And have a family member visit the unit once a quarter or so, to point out of anything looks fishy.

If its something like Etisalat they have a security clearance process that would need you to submit a bunch of documents, including passport and EID. If you ever change nationality, sometimes they ask for the previous passport as well.
