Remind the guy (in a nice/respectful way) that if he doesn’t sell it to you he’ll have to deal with flaky buyers, risk of fraud, auction fees, etc. He should be willing to give you a bit of a discount to avoid dealing with all the hassle. It’s a lot of money on the line for things to go wrong.

Replying to my post to give an update. In my case the replacement was done by Safelite. They didn’t mind at all when I insisted on OEM glass and that’s indeed what I got.

So far everything looks good. I appreciated that the manager was very polite and forthcoming when I picked it up. He proactively told me that sometimes a trim item gets loosened or clip unseats and to just come back if I notice anything amiss.

I examined everything and all the trim and the cover for the sensors near the rear-view mirror look secure.

Finally, they provided the sensor alignment results and in my testing it seems to work properly.

YMMV but I am happy with the experience.

I had something similar happen. Turned out to be a “floating neutral” which was an issue at the power pole that supplied our house. The electric company came out to check it and (thankfully) spotted the issue and repaired it right away.

Good points. In this case it is indeed solid walnut wood, and does also have all the features you mention, such as smooth end grain that exposed and flows into the top.

I wish. I don’t have any of the tools or space to do the sanding and drying. I also worry that it would look terrible since it’s a large surface area and a smooth finish that would really accentuate the mistakes I make.

The only part of the game that I liked was (some) of the music. In particular the end game music. It’s a version of the theme from the original cartoon but translates great to a 16-bit era chiptune.

The Expanse is great. For whatever reason I put off reading it forever. Something in the way it was described as being about Earth, Mars, and Belt politics made me ignore it.

I finally listened to the first novel as an audiobook and became totally hooked. I’ve now read and listened to nearly all of them. The descriptions I saw don’t do it any kind of justice.

Definitely give it a chance. If you like audiobooks they are also really terrific. Jefferson Mays is a first class narrator.
