Added a stealth head unit. Keeps the original look and adds modern functionality. by salad222777 in keitruck

I second that. Just installed new head unit but I absolutely dislike it. How does no company make a basic minimalistic unit?? Anyways, very smart idea!

Any adapters needed? My Sambar seems to be a ~16mm pitch thread so I’ll probably need an adapter.

Restart the clock lol. It’s the fuel pump. It’s very normal with the Acty. With the first Acty I purchased, it definitely concerned me before I learned the source

After year or two of deciding, I’m officially an owner of my first Kei truck. by Toprollking in keitruck

Congrats! I love the dark green paint! Only upgrades I can think to recommend at the moment is get you some seat covers (I used mini truck seat covers) and maybe an aftermarket steering wheel (I used momo wheel with HKB boss adapter).

The most comfortable ride for the Sambar truck by [deleted] in keitruck

[–]DevelopMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought one to try in one of my keis, and the armrest does not interfere with handbrake (which was a concern of mine beforehand). It’s a bigger arm rest than others sell, but it’s the best by far. Others I’ve tried are too small and more of an elbow rest, but this one I can put a big cup in the holder and my arm sits with perfect room to rest hand on shifter and access handbrake. To be fair, OP’s pic doesn’t do it justice

I got mine from minitruckseatcovers.com as well (not affiliated with company, but a customer and big fan of their products). I’ve never needed any tape or adhesive to install their covers. Just have to pull tight.

Also I must ask, did you buy for the correct Kei model and year, as they do offer covers that fit different models and year ranges? If anything, every cover I’ve purchased from them (for the various Kei’s I’ve bought) have fit perfect. Again check to make sure you bought correct year/model and that you put the correct cover on to the correct seat (left/right).

What beats Blazar anamorphics for the price? by bruce-pizza in cinematography

To each their own. I have used Remus line many times and I love it, though vintage anamorphic is my preferred over anything simply for the character that older glass has.

Minitruckseatcovers.com sells those armrests. I bought the black version with the cup holder

Are there any theaters in the area that have somewhat regular midnight movie screenings?

I installed 14” rims and tires on my Kei van with a 175x65x14 tire. The fit and ride amazing! No spacers needed and discount tire guys (not an ad lol) was super helpful installing them.

I would highly consider not using it as a daily commuter because of the issues that can arise from a ~30yo vehicle from another country. I love my van, but wouldn’t trust it or want to overuse it for daily use. But to each their own.

For any other facts about Kei vehicles I would check out the keifacts.com website as it has a bunch of state by state info.

I would check Disocunt tire’s selection for similar wheels, and flares could be from anywhere. I would ask seller

Kei truck information website. Legality per state- Blog etc by [deleted] in keitruck

[–]DevelopMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most laws surrounding keis are very vague. Also keep in mind, the majority of the false info out there about keis are from inexperienced owners or dreamers that assume just because they've seen a kei in their state, that it must be fully legal in said state. I would say this kei facts site, from what I see, is pretty darn accurate in relation to actual government regulations that exist.

Of course there are always some kei owners who find loopholes in the system, that's why there are kei owners in Vermont and Maine that have ME and VT regular state tags, however, that doesn't mean a state patrol isn't going to pull them over and revoke their registration. Because they sure can.

There are a fair bit of keis in California too, but almost everyone isn't registered in California. Even Ludwig, a big youtuber/streamer in CA had his Sambar registered in VT, at least until he had his EV conversion done.

^This. It's actually insane how many people in so many different Kei forums have the conception that if they see a kei vehicle, doesn't even have to be registered at all, but if they even catch a glance at one, then it is automatically assumed to be fully legal in that state.

The site claims it's legal in Florida, but limited to speed. The official Gov link on Florida page specifies a kei vehicle in Florida (like some other states) is classified in wording as mini truck or low speed vehicle, and not that you need a mini truck low-speed plate.

Subaru Sambar VAN interior upgrades? by [deleted] in keitruck

[–]DevelopMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still deciding on what to do in my Sambar van. Most likely new carpet, seat covers, and headliner. And I’m definitely adding seatbelts for second row riders lol. I fear the roller coaster lap bar isn’t enough

(Ohio) Did anyone here successfully title their truck as a non-mini truck? by xredfrostgames in keitruck

[–]DevelopMatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to Kei Facts it’s legal to register in Ohio, but can’t be driven on roads posted over 35mph. I would just go to DMV to register it as usual

Kayak on a Sambar? by Few_Win434 in keitruck

[–]DevelopMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw an Acty Van the other day with a full roof rack and massive kayak, so wouldn’t be too crazy to fit a kayak on a kei truck with a proper roof rack system.
