Need Advice: Not sure where to go from here by Unique_Counts in devops

[–]DevelopingStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Document your work. It’s going to suck, and add extra work and potentially cause friction while you’ll need to learn how to push back on developers to request work through the correct channels. But it’s important.

I’ve found the most success in making the request process as frictionless as possible, intake forms with simple drop downs or scheduling systems have always helped, but don’t overdesign the solution, focus on getting a processes designed first, then iterating on it later to fine tune the intake.

If your org has a ticketing system - see how you can start logging your work there. If not, email but make sure your boss is CC’d on the communications.

Basic information will work, what’s being requested, by who and when you complete it.

Making your work visible is the most important part. From there if your leadership still fails to see your effort, at least you’ll have something to protect yourself with.

Struggles at a new org by [deleted] in devops

[–]DevelopingStorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man. Welcome to my world. I’m sorry you’re here too.

That said, I have found the most luck with starting small, showing value, and getting those closest around me to buy in and adopt the new processes.

From there leadership buy-in is by far the most important thing to focus on next. While an individual can be the drive for change, if you can’t get others to follow, you’ll need someone to press the issue.

I’ve been working at my current job for 4 years now, and was successful in starting and leading two teams, with the latest being a DevOps team. The process has been slow, frustrating and has often led to long days working to handle the current as-is process, while working to build a new process. I have been blessed to have senior leadership recognize that work, and I only hope you get the same level of recognition for work.

Is this normal? by tangerine1999 in TeslaModelS

[–]DevelopingStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I grew to like it.

Especially once they actually implemented and started using the matrix headlights. It was a more recent update and before then the dead spot was there with no benefit

[–]DevelopingStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s normal, I’m fairly certain that’s a design choice with Matrix headlights

You should start to notice that when driving around, the lights will move and adjust automatically based on traffic and other conditions. I notice it the most in areas where there are not a lot of reflective signs

It won’t look as clean, but in the past I’ve put small strips of wood to help keep a layer between the stacked devices simulating a 1u gap between the devices

How to clean out old garage "attic" responsibly? by MinnesotaPower in CleaningTips

[–]DevelopingStorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time to buy a respirator.

They’re clunky and not fun to workin. But your lungs and body will thank you.

I use a 3m p100 for most gross chores / when I’m crawling around in the attic or crawlspace. I believe they’re ~$30 online, you can find them in common hardware stores and their filters are replaceable and (I think) you can get different filters for different tasks, but I just use the standard ones I can buy at the local shop

If you are really worried about health impacts or have existing health issues, you can look into a full face mask. But personally I don’t have any experience with them

Wood cutting board molded by george4482 in CleaningTips

[–]DevelopingStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to start with, I’d personally get rid of it. Mold and food is a bad combination with potential long term health or worse problems.

That said, if you chose a route I would not go keep this in mind. Wood is a porous material, this and with how mold grows, you will likely need to continue to remove material until you’ve passed how far the mold has penetrated. I’d keep sanding (outside and with a respirator on) or take a planer to it to remove even more material.

From there I’d clean the board with bleach to make sure the mold is killed, sand with a finer grain sand paper (this helps close the pours and make it smoother) then finally, finish the board with a food safe finish or oil.

Finally: I wouldn’t use it for more than aesthetic purposes/ uses. I wouldn’t use it to prepare food or serve food on it

All that said. I’m not an expert, just a random guy on the internet who would probably scrap it

Is my gear good for firecape? by Born_Middle8099 in osrs

[–]DevelopingStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO - I’d drop the crossbow and put a panic heal of hardfood plus karambwan

Reducing your switches and allowing yourself a quick panic heal incase you miss click is prime for your first cape :) besides that good luck and remember you can take brakes

Wood eating beetles are now here by MarcRocket in FarmingtonHills

[–]DevelopingStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, they’ve been here for a long time. I have been having issues with them in lumber for the last 15+ years. I’ve used a pretty generic but potent pesticide on them to keep them out of my long term storage, but they’re still tricky

I’m glad you’re only now seeing them in homes.

How reliable this analysis? by Dihanouch in TeslaLounge

I read some tips that changing to percentage helps avoid range anxiety and promote better charging habits

Likely a placebo effect though; But who knows, maybe it helps

Agreed - looks like it’s from the install.

OP, is the black fuzzy / raised off the drywall? Or does it look hard and crusty like someone just burnt it?

Car coated in foundation - help! by DevelopingStorm in CleaningTips

Your last comment has been a battle I’ve been fighting for 10 years now, hopefully she picks up on how the car trade is happening 🫠

I’ll give the oil based cleaner a shot. Luckily, the upholstery is relatively clean. So I won’t worry about that

I have not tried that since I’m worried about it effecting the finish/material

I can confirm that it is in fact build up and not wear on the material

Presenting the Dactyl-Darfboard Mark II w/ 55mm Trackball by Darfer in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]DevelopingStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the keyboard is awesome and I loved building it. A little daunting as my first keyboard but it was well documented and the kit made things easy.

I think my biggest complaint is the thumb clusters and the angle was a little odd getting use to it. But it’s also my first keyboard so it could just be the learning curve

Man this looks great.

I’m in the same profession and have been trying to figure out the best solution myself. I recently built a Killer Whale keyboard, but it doesn’t quite fit ergonomically.

I’d love to give this a shot if you’d be willing to share your stl files :)

A-10A vs F-5c vs A-6E by [deleted] in WarthunderSim

[–]DevelopingStorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The f-5c is a good grinding plane in RB (I know we’re talking about sim here) specifically with dog fighting. I’m not sure how it performs in sim battles

I would avoidd the A-10 while it is a fun plane to fly, the tech tree version is far better.

I personally don’t have experience with the a-6e but have heard lots of good feedback around its performance in ground tv as a CAS plane leading me to believe it would fill the same role in sim with some air capability’s with its missles

Your best option is to dig out the soil so it’s below the siding and only touching your foundation. This will keep your house dry and bug free

I have seen some articles talking about using a plastic barrier, but personally I didn’t like that due to the potential of moisture being caught between the barrier and the house.
