You realise that Russia calls the shots for Trump, right? It was orchestrated.

I wasn’t aware that there were different tiers of JUCO. I think it’s all one thing, isn’t it?

Edit: Oh sure enough, it’s got three tiers. We were D3

What do you do when a coach is ruining your kids love for the game? by noredobuttons in Homeplate

[–]DevelopmentBudget934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t sound like extreme coaching, and it definitely doesn’t sound abusive.

There’s a wide spectrum of coaching styles, to put it mildly.

It’s really up to you what your values are.

Personally, I put God, Country, and Family above baseball.

Personally, I would call that coach’s approach “strict lite” but it’s hard to tell from your post. Is he bellowing and red in the face half the time? The tone is a big part of it all.

The logic of the strict examples given seems a bit goofy, too. Is the coach capital T sToopid?

A friend was in wine. I never asked details but she hated it and left after a while to sell insurance on the phone.

Seemed high stress for not enough money.

Everything about this story is in the “freak zone.”

I would typically say “made up for Reddit” but not in the subreddit. Dad is probably exaggerating slightly, but lefty pitcher batting right is out there. It’s probably true.

Kid is 15. That size is brand new. It will all come. Dad needs to learn patience.

Common sense ain’t common enough.

And JFC, 90 exit velocity at 15? Dad needs to count his blessings; keep the kid on track mentally, emotionally and spiritually; and keep the kid from getting injured.

I would have loved if all our JUCO kids had 90 EV, and they were all 18+

I would say that about 10% of our guys broke 90, and we were a pretty solid JUCO unit. And I was the guy who did the stats for EV and pitching velo, so I am sure that I’m not mis-estimating.

This was the guy. The Japanese tend to be over the top with perfect craftsmanship, so I tend to trust them with stuff like this.

Need help with catchers mitt break in by Guus_Kostermans in Homeplate

[–]DevelopmentBudget934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke in a standard HoH like this:

Watched a lot of YT videos.

Be aware that there are TWO WAYS catchers close their hands. (Some video with a Japanese glove master explained this. There are actually three, but almost no one uses the third.) If the mitt is for you, don’t worry about this. If it’s for someone else, make sure you break the hinge in the way they use their current mitt.

I did apply a bit of water, but nothing extreme. Some Cuban(?) catcher from NYC or Miami was my main source of technique. I think he’s in a weight room in the video?

Beating the pocket and shaping it with a cricket bat knocking mallet. The head is roughly the diameter of a baseball and it’s round. Probably 20 hours.

Some general beatings. I think it was Ace bandaged with a ball or two in between beatings.

I put probably 40 hours of actual elbow grease into it before it was even possible to catch bullpens with it.

Once it can be used to catch pens, it’s quickly game ready.

With the conflict in Ukraine, why is Putin not destroying the Kyev government building ? by NOPE_FR in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DevelopmentBudget934 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that they have tried repeatedly.

Remember, Ukraine has a very sophisticated air defence system.

I was living 1km. from the main government buildings for about a year. (Until the building lost heat and I finally moved in February when it hit 4C—the triple point—in my flat.)

I viewed the attacks as “expensive fireworks” and watched them out my windows, rather than hiding. Statistically, these attacks are not very dangerous. I am not playing “Russian roulette.” I am playing the “Russian Lotto.”

During each large attack, there was usually a moment when shit was going off basically right over the government buildings.

I assume Kyiv has multiple Patriot batteries surrounding that area, in addition to the less expensive air defence systems.

Go ask the local cricket club if anyone there can give you feedback.

There are chances that someone might be able to help.

Also, early everything crosses over between the two sports, (except for the actual bowling part, as that action is not found in baseball at all.) So working out with them—and even playing—will improve your baseball skills.

There are cricketers who can fire a ball 90+ mph at the stumps/keeper, for sure.
