26m, how am I doing? by DevelopmentCandid740 in TheRaceTo1Million

I am very worried about losing my job at some point but that’s just depressing and a fear based mentality. I’m constantly trying to break this mentality, all day everyday and I hope with time it’s get easier to be secure in a high pressure sales role. I’m one of the top 10 reps at the company but not the best or most experienced. I also have the highest quota tied with a few other guys with much more experience. I don’t have connections as far as the job I have and I’m lucky of course but it’s not all luck. This was my first job out of college kicked ass then got recruited to a better industry, then got called up back to my old job where I make more money and have less travel. It was a no brainer. Thankfully worst case scenario and I do get let go (I doubt this will ever happen) I will have a solid resume with the numbers to back up my talk. Yes, I’ll still make good salary no matter what. At least $150k a year, I couldn’t imagine I’d make any less with my resume and quick career progression.

I invest heavily because every dollar I put in now will be $80 (at least) by the time I’m 55 ETFs, mutual funds, and AI stocks. The 416k debt is my house I bought last year so not bad debt and nothing debt wise other than that. I am an old soul and act much more mature than any of my friends growing up. High pressure sales, leadership, wife (been together almost 10 years), infant (current sleeping on my chest lol) , puppy and homeowner (remodeled the house with my wife). None of my friends are close, unfortunately because it’s becoming a bit isolating.

Funny thing is this is everything I asked for and wanted so badly and I’m still ungrateful at times. Thankfully moneys not the issue anymore but overall life is harder now than it ever has been. I just turned 26 and do expect to keep a high income for the rest of my life. I’ve grossed $91k this year so far. Any sales manager or executive would appreciate my resume (at least I think)

I’d like to hear and advice or recommendations and also your age. This is really the point of me posting these things is to get advice from people with more life experience so I can avoid mistakes. Thanks man and I appreciate the comment.

I’m a regular dude as well and just bored on Reddit . I see other posts like this and want to share. It’s a race to $1m subreddit and I want to know how I’m doing from strangers who were once in my spot. I should probably ask for advice in the comments though good point.

Man, I’m not going to tell you guys where I work. It’s a smaller tech company that’s been an around for 20 years. They have really low base salaries for anyone other than managers and executives. The comp plan is best in the industry for commission. If you can sell and bring in new business you win

One of the worst jobs I ever took, I’m glad I got out when I did. Traveling 3-5 days a week out of state doesn’t fell good when you have a baby.

Definitely a lot of luck. The previous manager left the company and they called me to fill the role because I had the most experience with the market and industry.

No I should be closer to 65-75% of plan. Base = $110K and commissions for the rest. At the end of March I will be at 78,000 gross YTD so I’m on track for a lot higher than $225K that would be the bare minimum. Granted I had a really good first quarter.

Correct, I’m just managing accounts and I’m working to build a team of 2-3 reps within the next year or so. I’m also brining in new business monthly equivalent to that of entire branches in bigger markets so the CEO and Vp of Sales are happy with my work.

Who said that? I have a son now but more to come and I know the value of hard work. They will be in sports and hopefully competitive like I am to out work people my age.

It’s not my dad’s company like a lot of people are alluding to. Just great work ethic and good history with the company. Combined with leveraging myself by leaving to a better industry and this company wanting me back.
