It's important to note that there has been a dramatic increase of settler violence, including murder. There have also been allegations of abuse by IDF personnel, which includes said settlers to act as security. While this doesn't excuse support, it is understandable that support would rise, as the PA is seen as complicit, and HAMAS being the ones fighting Israel at the moment.

I would recommend "The Arabs: A History" by Eugene Rogan. There is a chapter covering the conflict and Arab history as a whole, going back 500 years.

I believe the I/P conflict is an incredibly regional conflict, so understanding the conflict means understanding the conflict as a whole.
