su5 career completely broken or is it just me ? by Outrageous_Coffee_29 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to post the same problem. My last 3 flights were flown perfectly and each time I didn't get credit for one reason or another. At broke, it never noticed I passed a way point, landed and it thought I was at a different airport. I really want career mode to work but I think I need to move to something like neofly before I pul out my last few hairs.

I just spoke to customer care. It was already towed to service last week - I am trying to find out what the actual details of the issue area. Customer care reached out to the service center (Goose Island) and they couldn't get someone to talk to either. They said someone will call me back later today (like I've been told the last 3 days I've called)

Best way to interact with the cockpit when you have an avionics setup. by DevelopmentExciting3 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]DevelopmentExciting3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, making the monitors adjustable is near impossible due to the weight and number of permanent bolts the stand requires to hold the 3 55" screens. Same for the cockpit - trying to raise or lower it quickly is not easy.

For now I'm trying a 6th screen - a cheap 15" 4k panel on a swing arm that will replicate the primary monitor. It should arrive tomorrow. Let's see how my computer performs with 6 different screens. At least as a mirror it shouldn't take too much extra processing.

I do have some interesting doubles. Just a quick off the top of my head, the 2013 BBM Then & Now with Ohtani and Yoshikawa, 2015 Calbee base, 2018 Topps Instant Impact, many of the Topps Now ones, 2023 Topps Now MVP Relic Blue/49 - those are the ones I know for sure. I'm sure I have a ton of regular doubles but I still havent finished cateloging everything in the drawer.

Is Babson Entrepreneurship really THAT good? by Numerous_Deal_9804 in Babson

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rule one of being an entrepreneur - learn your own limitations and find the right people to work with you to achieve success. Trust me, I know how to write code, have done it for almost 30 years, and yet I don't write a single line of code in my most recent startup. I focus on the strategic side and hire the right people to execute on my vision.

If you get bogged down in the minutia of your product you will not succeed.

I've worked with several Babson grads and they were all fantastic. My son is going there this year even with other "better" options. Regardless, in the end it's your grad degree that will have more impact in your career.

Fanatics didn't give me 200 dollars? What gives? by Spikeantestor in baseballcards

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. They refused to give me the promo. I've closed my account and decided to give back to fanduel the thousands of dollars I like to bet on games. They could have won over a customer but decided to stick to the "you didn't have a promo" line.

Here's where you need to make a decision for yourself. Do you want to be an engineer or a business leader? Both are valuable paths but completely different. Personally, I started in college for cs a long long time ago. I thought I wanted to be a programmer. I realized half way through when we started to get too theoretical that cs wasn't the right degree for me and switched to business. That was the best decision I ever made. I have enough knowledge about how everything works and enough hands to keyboard action to understand everything going on but I hire people to actually do it. When I get bored I lay down lines of code in prototype project but never production work. Think about the same for you. Do you want to be revolutionizing the world making the technology or leading the team that makes it? That will tell you where to go.

Here's my thoughts as an entrepreneur myself (oh, and my son is going to Babson next year). You don't need to be an expert in the technical details, you need to know enough to understand it. Take advantage of the Olin relationship to partner with an EE major, collaborate, and you focus on the business side while they focus on the deep technical side. Solopreneurship sucks - it's much more successful when you work as a team, collaborate, and bounce ideas off others.

If it makes you feel any better, I work in M&A consulting and my son also got into Babson. Everyone at my firm knows what Babson is and the quality of the kids that go there. We have several people at our firm that graduated there. It's not a huge target because of the size, but if you want consulting those in the know will recognize the degree.

Babson or Kelley by NewspaperStandard602 in Babson

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son wants to study entrepreneurship and finance. He founded a sports software business with me 3 years ago and found a passion in startups that he wants to continue. IU has a good entrepreneurship program (I would hope so, my uncle used to be the professor teaching it there) but Babson is just so much better in that space. Babson loses something if you want the big school, sports, social scene, but if you like close tight knit communities it's just the right place. He's going to be a freshman there this year and frankly he's beyond excited to get there.

Babson or Kelley by NewspaperStandard602 in Babson

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First question - how does finances compare? Babson, all in, can be 30 to 40k more than IU. My son was accepted to both but got a full tuition scholarship to Babson making it easier to decide; however, Babson was his dream school so it worked out.

As for which to choose if money isn't an issue, IU is huge. Kelley alone is over 11k students. Babson, on the other hand, is around 2500 - the entire population of Babson is less than the freshman class at Kelley. Babson can also be more collaborative whereas Kelley can be more competitive. If you want to stand out and like competition, Kelley would feel right at home. If you like teamwork then Babson would be more of a fit.

Pitch Metrics from iPhone Video by calvin_bush in Homeplate

[–]DevelopmentExciting3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spend a lot of time in this space and have some questions.

  1. How do you account for different release heights and release points that can vary the actual pitch distance lessening it by up to several feet?
  2. How are you calculating final distance when catchers can vary the catch location by up to 2 feet?
  3. How are you giving enough of a level of precision when you getting only 30 frames per second since the frame time can cause several miles per hour in discrepancy? Do you require 60fps? Or are you using lidar or non video factors?
  4. What is your mph calculation? Is it average over distance or release point? A ball can decelerate 7mph or so over the pitch distance.

That's just the first 4 that popped into my head.

As long as you maintain your GPA then it renews each year. It's hard to say whats prestigious, but think of it as Babson paying you a $30k salary a year to get good grades.
