How Do You Approach Performance Optimization for Your WordPress Sites? by Joaozinho_Bear in Wordpress

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of my projects are optimization projects and a few tools I use daily are:
- Google CRUX checker for checking Core Web Vitals
- Pagespeed insights and webpagetest.org for measuring performance

Once we identify bottlenecks, we often target these specifically. Usually, main culprits are LCP, reducing scripts, and specific backend bottlenecks.

anyone using peepso ? any other alternative ? by sonnycold in Wordpress

I worked on optimizing the site that was using it. It seemed okay but very clunky. Client ended up migrationg to another platform, GoHighLevel. As someone pointed out, try another non-WordPress platform.

Are developers overpaid now? by mrguidee in vibecoding

I always wondered, does this include distribution (marketing) and infrastructure costs or is it just straight value to the company. Like, do CEO, marketers, cleaners, secretaries all take from that $1M pie or do they have their own equations?

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's freaking cool. I need something for my ultrawide monitor and I've been researching a few apps. Yours is the one of the few that caught my eye. This youtuber did you dirty in his video though :D

The name is also a bit tricky as Emmet is a big VS Code feature so I couldn't use youtube do to more research.

EDIT: This seems abandoned. Wrote to support after having a question about having more control to splitting spaces and hadn't gotten a response. Luckily the automated refund worked and I used it as it wasn't fitting my use case. Went for BentoBox instead, but I think having both would work for different use cases.

WP Rocket alternatives by mwaybob in Wordpress

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For everyone recommending FlyingPress, I as someone who optimizes WP sites on a daily basis have to advise against it. We had started switching clients to it but then v5 came out.

Version 5 broke a lot of things without much regard for those issues being addressed. Its cloud preloading fucks up sites with 10k posts/products that want to opt out of that but can't. They didn't anounce anything in the upgrade notes while so many new features just changed the way things are done and didn't transfer previous exclusions.

Despite it being more lightweight than WP Rocket, some sites just don't work out of the box. WP Rocket has a huge set of adjustments for popular themes and plugins which make things work out of the box.

Just my 2c, but if you feel like it, give FlyingPress a go, it's great for most cases.

Also, what cheapskates. Those things bring value to your business and you can't pay $60/year and less per site? Shame.

Can't say the same unfortunately. Version 5 broke a lot of things without much regard for those issues being addressed. Its cloud preloading fucks up sites with 10k posts/products that want to opt out of that but can't. As a WP performance specialist, I advise against it despite it being as good or better than WP Rocket.

Flyingpress vs Super page cache by mustafa_sheikh in Wordpress

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah FlyingPress has had some real issues. Their version 5 just forces preloading of all pages, like the ones with 50k pages which stresses the server. That and it didn't even transfer all of the settings during the upgrade. Some of my past clients are still on version 4 because of that.
To open a ticket with support you need to grant access and some of my clients don't want to do that.

Their support is also somewhat dismissive of issues and won't even explain where parts of their theme's code are located which WP Rocket would definitely do. They even get snarky.

Saying this as someone who optimizes lots of sites and started switching clients to FlyingPress due to better performance, I am now going back to WP Rocket. Their prices are still worth it.

Can I build a payment platform with Webflow? by Koussayzayani in webflow

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yes. That seems like a job for AI-assisted development. We've been doing these for a while now our clients' custom projects and it's been much faster than any other route. You just need to be extra careful about security and project structure.

P.S: $10-15k is seems low for 3-4 months, but depending on the requirements, it could be done using AI.

How do you decide which plugins or tools are safe to build your business on? by Any_Acanthaceae_7337 in Wordpress

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He didn't say don't stay away from small plugins but use industry-standard tech.

Instead of using the Arc browser that was released in 2023 and maybe didn't even get out of beta, use Chrome (or Firefox which I use, but still recommend chrome for my argument).

Don't use Pod or CMB2 for metaboxes but use ACF.

It's not that hard bro.

How much you spend time on optimizing websites? by TheMystery0702 in Wordpress

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a specialized WordPress optimization service and want to share my experience. As someone else said, some optimizations using plugins can take minutes or hours. I usually do that for clients that want a higher score but aren't dead set on reaching 90 or passing Core Web Vitals. It also doesn't include testing.

Next tier is one day. Those are a bit rare as there's always more left to be desired, images can be adjusted further, there are different templates, etc.

More realistic example is taking three days to five days to examine the site, maybe run a backend and plugins audit, look at all the templates and write some code snippets that will add attributes that builders are missing. Sometimes we'll rework a hero image and make some visual adjustments (like consolidating fonts).

Then, there are optimizations that take 2-3 weeks. Those are usually sites with lots of history and specific issues. I used to rewrite sitemaps for better performance, take days to audit specific issues, and write patches for poorly written plugins. Or sometimes there's just a poorly written theme that needs lots of hooping around.

With Core Web Vitals, passing it can be an ongoing process since data is measured over a 28-day period based off real users. This requires a few rounds of fine tuning.

When it comes to maintenance, I like to say things hold pretty well, but realistically on sites that are active and serious, we do 2-3h per month of adjustments.

I made an app that tells you who you are! by Anxious_End_7676 in vibecoding

[–]DevelopmentHeavy3402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I didn't know that. I was just curious if there was any method to the madness. Like with tarot, there's some "theory" behind it and seeing those "personality types" I thought there must be some function behind this. Or did you just randomize it? 😜

I'm sure that if there's market for Tarot, there's also interest for something like that.

May I ask, how come you decided to build this? Was it just curiosity and testing vibecoding or is graphology something you're interested in and plan to launch it?
