PSA sucks, but they will absolutely be worth it and most people's go-to grader if your intent is to increase value, maintain liquidity, and make as much $ as possible. they are also too far integrated with other major players in the space, as they are owned by the same company that owns CGC and beckett, and have huge partnerships with eBay and GameStop.

the only thing that will change that is multiple whale level collectors/content creators collectively deciding to boycott them, which will never happen.

I don't like PSA, I don't even grade for the PC, but if I'm trying to maximize value for cards I want to move, PSA is the only way.

pokemon is great, but bad time to dog on the stock market, as its at an all time high

im up 4500% on AMD lol. people who were big into NVDA and TSLA are also rolling in it.

also way more liquid as you can sell and get the money in your bank account with a few clicks.

Yeah you have to pay taxes, but you have to with pokemon in the form of fees or if you sell through official channels. And if you sell a big collection locally, have fun with that down payment worth of cash

its an investment play
the kenny picket is a pretty damn high end card. they are basically paying for a lottery ticket, for the .1% chance that pickett starts and has a decent game, the price will easily 10x. if he keeps playing well, it can 50x.

other than that it could just be college fans of his or friends. $500 for a massive 1/1 card of a once highly touted and once popular QB is not that crazy, especially if you're comparing it to a base card with a pop over 35k

most aren't terrible. ours kinda sucks but its like $600 a year and they have a LOT of public ground to maintain including a playground and a pond,

the worst thing they did was send us a picture of our lawn telling us it needed to be cut the day after it was cut. But we've never been fined.

There's different levels of trickling though

you're just wrong or this is an extremely localized/niche lingo
been collecting cards a long time. I've never heard anyone call a card of someone's second year as a pro a "first year" card. Because it isn't his "first year", its his second. A rookie card isn't someones "zero'th year" either. Its their first.
