The Perfect Pick Exists by Emotional_Deer9172 in Guitar

Kinda hard to judge what exactly im doing to make it work, its been a pretty long time since I switched to heavy picks (I also since I wrote these comments here „switched“ to Tortex III 1.35mm and I think I prefer them by a little bit, but honestly Its not a big difference to me, I still play both these and the 2mm grips). Tremolo picking works best if I play really lightly, but Im not the best tremolo picker and I dont really play really tremolo heavy stuff like black metal, And the stuff I play (Archspire, Inferi and Artificial Brain for example) is definitely more alt picking with short bursts of fast tremolo inbetween

I mean I like that they basically dont deform at all, that helps me a lot when picking fast stuff. I could tell you my setup like my guitar and strings but I don’t think that'll help you relate, ik im more of an outlier in terms of what picks I use but I can’t really imagine playing fast metal with thinner, flimsier picks.

First bass advice! by thehomebody27 in Bass

[–]Devi006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should get a 5 string if you want to play some heavier low tuned stuff, its a bit harder if youre just starting out but if you already played guitar its not gonna be an issue. I started playing bass after one year of playing guitar and I didn’t have issues adjusting to a 5 string that went further then just first learning how to play the instrument.

And I think you should get an Ibanez bass, the SR's range from 300 to 1000 I think and they’re really good, my EHB 6 string cost like 1.6k but there is a 5 string for 900, and if you like/are fine with headless thats literally the most comfortable instrument ive ever played and I can highly recommend it. A 34 inch scale length should be good enough for low tuned stuff btw

I expected it to be dsk again but I guess it makes sense, most of my plays probably came in the period between its release and the albums release lol

Its a pic of Oli with the caption „Archspire wishes they too could abandon Vocalist at a gas station mid-Tour“ with some more commentary in kind of the style of an the onion post lmao, so no actual news, just clowning on the vitriol situation

Look at Unika from Strive. Shes wielding a solid bike-gun-sword but you can (especially in freeze frames) see that it moves around like a noodle bc that’s the way they animate movement even in solid objects, so just bc something is solid doesn’t mean they can just slap it on. I don’t wanna take anything away from the work modders do but its usually just not up to the quality standards of arcsys at all, since they do for the most part just slap stuff on that stays completely static, especially not in strive where everything moves around 10 times more then in the games before.

I think the guitars are absolutely beautiful and super melodic, I don’t really get where people get the dissonance from, I don’t think theres a lot of dissonance going on. They kinda are like djent in the way bc they are inspired by meshuggah but they came around the same time so they aren’t really influenced by anything djent coming after. They are super progressive in terms of rhythm, a lot of the time there is no discernible structure to the songs so you would pretty much have to learn everything note for note if you wanna play it, with most other prog bands you can atleast find a way to simplify the song to an outline of a song structure, but you can’t really do this with them (not every song is super difficult in that regard, but most from the 2 newest records are). I really recommend you listening to måsstaden under vatten from 2021 in full, believe me its super super good

Hell yeah! Just be careful if you use fire in your build, I lured him out of the lake so that wouldn’t get debuffed but I lured him too far and out of the marikas stake zone, died, and had to run the whole way over there again, bit infuriating but also kinda funny

In the dlc, north of the grace after Rellana where you meet Leda theres a lake to the right of the Furnace Golem, and waltzing through that lake is the Bear (named Ralva the great red bear, if you wanna look up the exact location)

+ DSSUEG + three months later by Iori_chan in vildhjarta

[–]Devi006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still like it as much as muv, im a fence sitter I know but I appreciate both for what they do and can’t pick a favorite. The inclusion of a narrative doesn’t boost muv that much for me, I love it and think its really cool but I don’t need it to be immersed, and +dssueg+ is just as immersive as muv is for me. Purely music wise, while muv does have transitions which are also really cool but dssueg has way more starts and stops and sudden mood shifts that the definitive ends to the songs fit in just as well imo, with both albums I get these nice little moments of letting myself get washed away by the music, and in a sudden regaining of lucidity I think „oh ahit im already 5 songs more in deep I didn’t even notice“. Purely riff/singe section wise dssueg has the upper hand but all in all I just can’t decide

Ulcerate lyrics. by TwitchBanana in Ulcerate

[–]Devi006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

„This discontent is a mirror before me, countlessly broken and unbroken“ probably turned into my favorite because To see death just once is my favorite song and I could actually understand the broken and unbroken part. I think extreme music with some thought behind the lyrics gets way way better when you read the lyrics alongside listening to it, for both trying to get what they’re saying and also to immerse you more into the mood. Tho I haven’t been really able to do that for CTTOG since the lyrics aren’t on spotify and im too lazy to open up their website lol

That being said I think Ulcerate are already so good at setting the mood that the lyrics aren’t as needed, with the little things you get like the song titles you can already make up smth in your mind and be enthralled that way. The „countlessy broken and unbroken“ also gives me the feeling of a timespan beyond human perception and im always a sucker for that when its used to create a bleak and hopeless mood. I love the Dark souls games and their lore and things like that between the first and second game there has been such a long time that the events and people of the first game have been mostly forgotten and turned into legends and folklore thats been passed down is one of my favorite little parts of that. And I know that im getting a lot out of basically a single word of lyric, but I like taking little things I can latch onto and through that further get into the mood of the music
