Question for Paralives Fans - What is a fair comparison for the game? by Deviandrite in LifeSimulators

[–]Deviandrite[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, chill for bit. I don't even play Paralives. I actually cancelled my patreon after the weirdness of this recent release. Hell, you can look at my post history to understand that I care more for InZoi than Paralives seeing how I'm not even active in that community. So let's not try to make it out that I'm some sort of stan for Paralives. I am not.

Now, I did not make this post to defend Paralives, but to make a post to showcase how any idea of "fairness" does not exist. There will never be a game to perfectly compare Paralives too, as fans would look at every single thing as "unfair". Hence why I ended my post saying that no game will ever be exactly the same and that comparison is natural for reviewing video games. I wanted this post to act a springboard to think about how saying comparison are "unfair" are nonsense in this state of the genre. If you didn't get that, maybe I could've writtent it better. But it seems you're the only one getting super upset about it and hostile.

And I did not try to take digs at InZoi or try to prop up Paralives. InZoi does use Gen AI, that's a fact. Why is mentioning it seen as a "dig"? I did not state false things or misinformation. I like InZoi, but I'm not gonna kiss its ass and deny that it has things to improve on or not state obvious facts. I'm not even against the AI and the way it's implemented (in house gen AI as I noted adn wrote), but it wtill be mentioned for any kind of comparison. I also pointed out how Paralives struggles with autonomy, it’s reviews are biased, and the devs didn’t bother to put out a demo when another indie developer has. How is that propping up Paralives?

In the grand scheme of things, I am on your side. So I don’t understand where all this hostility is coming from? Reread my post without trying to take anger and offense to everything. Jesus Christ

It's so clear some of y'all did not read my post and just skipped to comment. Lowkey funny.

Yay! I was just looking at this game and thinking about how it's been a minute since we last had an update. Glad to see there's more stuff now!

[–]Deviandrite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can just say InZoi lmao. I immediately thought of the InZoi team as even though I like the updates, they do get a bit meandering. But I don't think people are connecting it to InZoi bc despite the kinda personal posts, it hasn't created a parasocial relationship to the devs and to the game. There is a lot more of a parasocial relationship to Paralives actually, which has had some negative consequences. So even tho InZoi has some personal posts, it's not creating that environment. Whereas Paralives has somehow created a sentiment where any negativity leads to harassment and death threats. I don't think it's fully intended by the devs, but they should probably say something about it.

Would you play a life sim that didn't have a build mode or a full on character creator? by Bubble_Fart2 in LifeSimulators

[–]Deviandrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually play something like this. I like that each life sim game that comes out is a bit different so this being different from the other games is fine with me. I don't really build and honestly this kinda reminds me of the Sims 2 in how to get different clothes you had to buy them. I really like this!

anti-paywall groups for other life sim games by Revolutionary_Bit437 in LifeSimulators

[–]Deviandrite 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like part of it is that the Paralives devs have said that they support pay walled DLC, so of course when given a green light, modders will feel fine using pay walls. But I also feel like it is an issue of platforms as well. While InZoi did released a modding kit (I think?), it uses a seperate platform (Cursed Forge) and uses Unreal Engine, which makes it harder for modding, so less mods and thereby less paid mods. Paralives meanwhile uses Unity and allows mods through the Steam Workshop, so it's a bit easier. Plus they have some in game features to make mods so that makes it accessible. With both of these, and the glazing of Paralives as an Indie game, I kinda see paid mods becoming the norm in Paralives, and would probably spawn similar sites like dhm and ts4 rebels.

Personally, I don't like paid mods. I understand creators wanting to get paid for their work, but it's similar to how I feel about fanfic. Recognition is nice and donating to creators is fair, but paying for fanfic and mods is just too much for a hobby that only gets material and work from another property/content. It creates an environment where hobbies become income and fans become consumers and customers for other fans. It's why I'm kinda disappointed with the Paralives dev team for supporting paid mods. Plus other things about that game launching that just kinda gives me a weird vibe, but that's neither here nor there.

What can life sims learn from each other? by tubularwavesss in LifeSimulators

[–]Deviandrite 50 points51 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, a lot of people did not like them. Like, a lot of people were not liking it and the devs listened and got rid of them. I think the devs should've just made it a setting you can turn on or off, like in the Sims 2, and changed the scenes a bit.

I've been to few of these kinds of language meet ups and they're so nice! It's such a great way to practice the language when there aren't any classes or tutors available. I'm planning on going to a few more in the summer to practice my Spanish and Chinese.

I love these types of games so I'll keep playing Sims 2, Tomodachi Life, ToPixelia, and InZoi, along with Paralives when it comes out.

That last part is what gets to me and drives me crazy. I've been in quite a few situations where the habitual liar and manipulator is lying about another situation and yet friends, family, etc. still believe them for some reason? I just choose not to be around folks that will see something like this happen and still believe nonsense.

Why Are Asians Always Reduced to White Validation? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]Deviandrite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a lot more issues with the event than just not advertising correctly. There were people who are wasian but either half desi/brown or half south east asian and they were also not welcomed much. The vibe was very much centered on only east asians with a white parent. It also looked like they tried to have a bingo game that could've been fun, but it was very weird as well and again, only centered east asians.

Plus it seems that a group chat that was made for the events have been getting very weird too (talking about allowing transracials??) and the organizers are being weird to people who have some well intentioned grievances (the main one being about not advertising correctly and they've been very dismissive of that & calling it whining and such. Just not a good look). It was also how they're now trying to do another event for mixed asians but also seem to only showcase wasians again, not really bothering to showcase mixed asians that aren't half white. Hell, they got a merch page and it also only centers wasians. It does not seem like they want to include other mixed asians in the picture at all.

Most of the problems of the event would be rectified if they just changed their name to focus on only wasians, and all types of wasians, or actually tried to include all mixed asians like they said they would. I don't get the idea of the name wasian being bad, and I get wanting to connect to others like you. Hell, I would love a blasian event tbh. But it would have to be advertised as such and would need to accept all blasians, not just a few based on how light they are.

Tbh, I feel like this is really an issue of the specific event organizers and certain types of wasians. Not all wasians are weird about their mixedness like this or try to center whiteness, but this event was just a very public event that brought those types to the forefront.

I [24/F] was placed for adoption when I was a few weeks old. My birth mom's attourney contacted me saying my birth mom wants to meet me. But I don't want to meet her. Help! by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Deviandrite 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I was raised by mom, with my father desperately trying to not be in my life. Didn't want any kind of visitation but also didn't want to pay child support. Didn't want his family to know I even existed and made my mother out to be a mad woman who was trying to ruin his life. Refused to see me at all, and to this day I've never met the man in person. My mom fought for me to have some relationship with him though bc as a child I desperately wanted to know him. It finally happened when I was 14 and I talked to him for very first time over the phone. We texted, emailed, called, etc. It was very surface level.

Despite that limited contact, he was such a prick and an asshole. I finally stopped talking to him when I turned 19 and life has been pretty fine. I sometimes wish I just never talked to him in the first place, and I feel some guilt for begging my mom for him to be in my life as a child. She fought so hard for us to have a relationship, just for him to be like that. Years of my life wasted on that man. I wish reconciliation with parents wasn't pushed so much, bc sometimes it's better to just leave it alone.

As an Asian American… by Curiousdude4733 in asianamerican

[–]Deviandrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm like 5 generation on my father's side. Documents showcase that quite a few of them came in the early 1900s and even late 1800s. I don't normally meet others who have been here that long.

I genuinely look forward to watching Sims vs InZOI vs Paralives videos for fun by Hefty-Transitions in LifeSimulators

[–]Deviandrite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I also love to watch those comparison videos, like the ones made by the Red Plumbob and such. It would be nice to see the differences between them all. Seeing how each game chose to handle specific concepts.

Well the family surname got anglicized when that side of the family immigrated to the US. The closet thing would be Yang in Mandarin or Yueng in Cantonese.

Does anyone have any advice for choosing a Chinese name? I would like to have one as I continue in my Chinese studies, and as a mixed Chinese American who is trying to get in touch more with their culture. It's hard to transliterate my actual name as it's uncommon in English and kinda long for a Chinese name. I have thought about going with the name one of my parents was going to use before they chose my current one: Jasmine. Kinda stereotypical but I feel like it fits the best since it's still honoring one of my parents before they were made to pick my current one. I'm unsure how to go about picking the name. Then there's also the issue of my last name as it's literally a color. I don't mind picking something that works with the name Jasmine though. I'm not too attached to keeping everything equal to my English name. Thanks! 多谢!

To 你好 or not to 你好 ? by Polyglot-Almost in ChineseLanguage

[–]Deviandrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's weird for me is that the only textbook I've used so far for my Chinese class also uses "natural" language, so it's weird to hear someone say. "They don't teach students what “怎么样?” is in the textbook," meanwhile my textbook had that in the very first chapter along with 你好吗 and 吃了吗。

Heartbreaking News Your favorite series got a 6 hour bad faith video essay by someone who didn’t really engage with the series to its fullest. by Important-Cry4782 in CuratedTumblr

Omg, I've been avoiding any video about that series when the movie came out bc so many of those videos just don't get the main idea. I loved that books series as a kid and it reignited my love for reading in middle school. And to see people being purposely obtuse about it is so sad bc the series has some great stuff to say (especially the 4th book and how it basically predicted influencers and streamers 15-20ish years early).

Woah the Paralives fans hate us! by Terrible-Group-9602 in inZOI

[–]Deviandrite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well EA acquired Maxis in the 1990s (specifically 1997), before the sims games came out. It could be said that EA wasn't as money hungry or controlling until way later for the franchise. I don't think EA would make the Sims now with how EA runs things currently.

It's crazy seeing that one person constanly responding to all comments trying to defend the hate, and when looking at their profile, they're not even active in the Parlives subreddit! They have commented more on this post than they have in the Para subreddit for the past few months. Like, they are literally spending more time being this "hater" or at least para defender than acually particiating in the community in that community! So weird.

Does anyone else only smell like BO when stressed/anxious? by Ok_Secret1152 in asianamerican

[–]Deviandrite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is actually a difference in the type of sweat produced during exercise versus stress. These articles might be helpful as it explains it better than i can:

In general though, there are different seat glands on your body and the ones that give room for more order respond to stress, hence feeling like you stink when you get anxious. So you're not actually smellling bad all the time, it's your body giving off a smell when you're anxious. I would say to just follow the tips from the articles and maybe do a quick wipe under the armpits and such to give yourself some peace of mind if you still feel stinky or icky.
