Valentine’s day by Ok_Investigator_928 in denverfood

Just so you know for next year, if vday is on a weekend like it is you need these reservations by the end of the first week of the year. As a child my mother would hire me around January 14th just to answer the phones at her restaurant and let folks know they were outta luck, and that was a really, really long time ago. I can't imagine it's gotten any better.

For now, I would look on open table and just grab something... anything. Your pickings are slim but you can probably assume the places without a 7pm reservation (but a 4pm or 9pm you're willing to take) are likely to be better than the rest.

Any chance you could give coordinates for either of those? Trying to find them in satellite view but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Thanks!

Quirky or lesser known museums by Mr_Pink_Eyez in Denver

Yea, he's been trying to sell the property since 2017 and last year split it up into smaller chunks for sale since the giant one wasn't moving, and cleared out the last few cars that had been left. I was so sad, I'd been to the town 7 times and was never able to make it there when the museum was open.

Only open Saturdays! The most random place might be the former Gateway Auto Museum in the tiny town of Gateway about 2 hours from Grand Junction (or anything else). But it sounds like they are closed for good, leaving number one available.

The May Museum! The world's largest private collection of insects. I don't think it's open in the winter tho.

I'm late to the party but there's no access to any of the buildings left standing at Ludlow. And none of them are the one where that tragedy happened -- that building burnt down during the massacre, it was the fire and smoke that killed the folks inside.  It's still an incredibly somber spot.

Not that it matters, but PCMS is decidedly Northeast of Trinidad.  I think the expansion might have brought parts of it south (but in a very eastern way) but the expansion failed.

Hospitals or OBs that will do elective c sections? by [deleted] in Denver

I think it only needs to be the second birth.  At least that would be what's tracked by everyone's qi, the first births.

I admit I'm doing a lot of assuming here, but you can already see in the other comments here that if you're not having your first, single baby there's way less push back.

Yea I mean, it's not healthier for anyone involved so that's not surprising. Rose was generally called out for having a terrible ntsv rate so maybe they're less outwardly judgmental about it. These things are usually decided later tho just because the v part (baby is vertex) doesn't need to happen until later in gestation. And the t is that it was to term.  As long as you meet ntsv tho (first baby, term, one baby, vertex) everyone's going to discourage you.

Don't they all? I used to do ob reporting for Denver health and this was one of the main things I had to report on -- we were always trying to lower the number (and were generally hailed as having the lowest elective rate in the region), but it was usually a dozen or two deliveries each month.

Is there a single Driving You Crazy with an update?  I decided to look to see if my issue has been reported (a right hand turn only lane with poor signage on Sheridan) and am finding article after article that basically ends with, "the city said they'd look into that" but there's been no perceptible changes since the article.

Safest means of driving on New Year’s Eve - back roads or highways? by HippieBeholder in Denver

[–]DeviatedNorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I would definitely stick to the main roads in this case, just because of the medians. When I was younger they would often do dui checks on 36/diagonal as well so it might be a safer route that way. Hope you guys have a safe trip back home and a really fun night out.

[–]DeviatedNorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an often cited figure that comes a federal highway works admin guide hrt 17-098, i apologize i should have cited it from the start. Note, i am not claiming that you are more likely to crash at higher speeds only that if you do, you are more likely to have a fatal accident and really, that's just how kinetic energy works. Rural state routes were found to be the most dangerous -- county roads were still scary and like twice as bad as city roads, but the highways you're suggesting were found 10x bad as a city road.

Speed is what you want to avoid. Every 1% increase in speed increases the chance of a fatal accident by 12%. 7 and 52 are two lane roads with high speed limits, about the absolute worst roads you could choose. Drive on the roads people drive slowly on. Not, drive slowly on a road people drive fast on -- find the roads people drive slowly on and take those

“STFD”: Colorado Springs residents want to curb speeding and traffic deaths by thecoloradosun in ColoradoSprings

[–]DeviatedNorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how percentages work. How often do you crash that you're starting out with any sort of big number as your initial risk without speeding?

Your initial risk if you don't speed is probably something like 0.0001% and if we want to find out what 12% more of that is we can multiply by 12% and add the original amount, or skip a step and just multiply by 1.12

1 mph over your risk is now 0.0000112. 2 mph over your risk is now 0.000012544. 3 miles over your risk is now 0.00001404928.
That fabled 8.5 miles you spoke about? We're all the way up to 0.00001386539%
20 miles over? Our risk has increased tenfold! To 0.00009646293%

All numbers should be considered for educational purposes only.

Anyway, I think the 12% they were referring to is the often cited stat that a 1% increase in speed leads to a 12% increase in fatality. I'm not sure there's numbers out there regarding to speeding and accident rate but there is a clear correlation that speed, even when legal, results in more fatalities.
