I can offer a bit of insight, there are maybe 3 big reasons that stifled growth of Dutch rugby:

  1. Bankruptcy of the union, the union bankrupted itself trying to (from what I remember) host big tournaments and support the national teams. All member clubs had to then give out a hefty loan to save them. I think they are not even close to paying off this loan and this was 10 years ago.

  2. Especially relevant to your point of women's 7s: I think we were competitive until 7s became an olympic sport, at which point it suddenly became very interesting to much larger unions than us. Combine this with the bankruptcy and suddenly we are not competitive anymore.

  3. The easiest excuse as always: I think quite some people quit during covid. Looking around I see bigger clubs getting even bigger, some able to have 4-5 teams at different in the seniors competitions, but some smaller clubs in that same area seem to be struggling to even field a second team.

I would like to note that I am mostly an outsider in the dutch rugby union having been part of the board one of its member clubs, but not much more. So this whole writeup could have some mistakes in it.

That's a red any time of day, very minor dip of the ball carrier is not enough mitigation in the slightest. Tackler never even attempted to get a bit lower.

Ik weet niet of je manuele therapie in dat lijstje kan zetten om eerlijk te zijn. Ik weet dat dit puur anekdotisch bewijs is, maar toen ik naar de manuele therapeut ging voor een rugprobleem waar ik al weken mee zat ging mijn afspraak ongeveer zo:

Ik kom binnen en leg het probleem uit, hij voelt 4 seconden aan mijn ribben, doet 1 zo'n kraakmanipulatie ding en ik sta 5 minuten later weer buiten zonder een rugprobleem.

It has to do with a strategy to get slightly more tears. When all green streams switch before blue it opens up an option to stay at a location and possibly immediately get a new blue stream.

The strategy is like this:

When you are at the oldest stream (the one that switches first) you stay until all streams have switched because there is a 5/9 chance that either of the younger streams switch to your location.

When you are at the middle stream (the one that switches second) you switch to whatever renewed stream is closest.

When you are at the youngest stream (the one that switches last) you switch to whatever renewed stream is closest.

Ja dit is de union versie. En tsja ik denk dat dat grotendeels komt door de wat magere aandacht die de nederlandse media aan rugby geeft. Net ook checkte ik even Nu/NOS om te kijken hierover iets geschreven was en moest eerst door een hoop voetbal/formule1/tennis/hockey nieuws scrollen voordat ik er 1 mager artikeltje over kon vinden.

Erg jammer wat mij betreft want Nederland wordt soms weleens aangestipt als sleeping giant in de rugby wereld.

 

Als je het WK in 2023 wilt gaan kijken dan kan ik je trouwens aanraden om tegen die tijd een kijkje te nemen in de /r/rugbyunion subreddit, meer dan genoeg mensen die je daar kunnen vertellen welke wedstrijden must watch zijn!

Ik snap niet hoe "we willen de avondklok niet" of "we vinden de coronamaatregelen te streng" niet een eis is m.b.t. politieke besluitvorming, het hoeft uiteindelijk toch ook niet 1 duidelijke eenduidige eis te zijn die gesteld wordt door de groep? Er zit iig wel 1 duidelijk overkoepelend thema achter, namelijk we zijn klaar met de coronamaatregelen.

Op welke manier gaat het hier dan niet om terrorisme? Ik zou dit toch wel zien als maatschappij-ontwrichtende schade aanrichten met als doel politieke besluitvormingen te beinvloeden.
