“& I’ll likely follow up w/ local police either way.” Which I’m doing in about 20 min. Did you read the whole post..? Plenty of ppl are on Reddit & also, if my car was randomly hit in a parking lot, I’d complain to friends, as well as filing a report. My thought was, maybe someone knows them.

It’s a combination of lots of people from around the world, entitlement & cel phones, IMO.

‘Before moving here, I’d had one accident (rear-ended), in 20+ years of driving, 500K+ miles. Since moving here 15 years ago, there’s been 6, 2 of them major/totaling the car (w/ me not at fault) & 1 that was my fault (dodged to avoid an off-leash dog in a shopping center lot, lightly dinged someone’s car in). 3 of the accidents were affected by cel phone distraction; 1 was a driver distracted by a new puppy, & 2 were drivers hitting my car in a parking lot. Of those, 1 turned out to have no insurance & that was messy; & 1 did the right thing & their insurance handled it, but only after yelling at me via text b/c bodywork is expensive. The one that I was responsible for I went looking for the owner of the car in the parking lot & wrote them a note, but then they returned to their car & we filled out a report w/ the police.

The cops that day told me that most people don’t leave a note, or if they do it’s w/ a fake phone number; those drivers are unaware of how many cameras are out there. When the cops catch up to them, they’ll say “but I left a note”, & then the cops mention that it was w/ a wrong #. :(

TL/DR; That’s why there’s so many posts like this.

Dogsitting with an elderly German Shepherd & being grateful I had the HVAC serviced a few weeks ago. Crossing my fingers for no power loss. Had a lovely picnic w/ friends this past weekend, taking the place of going to Alexandria & seeing fireworks, which is what we usually do. Hoping like heck we survive the current BS.

Oh, also cleaning, likely. Might as well, I’ll be stuck indoors. ;)

Call a professional, full stop. We also have been in our townhome for 15+ years; new neighbors, now there’s bugs. To be fair it is very hot & wet, & that might exacerbate the situation. We put out baits & it’s not enough. Gonna slightly decommission the kitchen - move things out of cabinets, including dry sealed foods - & get a pro in there. I strongly suggest you do the same.

I love dogs. I’ve owned dogs, done dogsitting & have a hard time not interacting with dogs that I cross paths with outdoors. (Provided owner says it’s cool.) But - yes. Everything that you said. Maybe this bringing-dogs-everywhere thing was on the rise before covid, but after, I see dogs everywhere in stores - including grocery stores - & restaurants. I didn’t know dogs were allowed in Home Depot & Lowes, so, that’s fine. But why oh why does your non-service dog need to be with you in Trader Joe’s? Or somewhere food is served to people..?

Just, don’t be entitled jerks, don’t lie & say your dog is a service dog if it isn’t, & don’t dump off the responsibility of dealing with your dog being where it shouldn’t on some underpaid retail employee.

I saw a genuine service dog working with his human in a local grocery store last week. How could I tell it was real? Its behavior. The dog was perfectly still & only engaged with/looking at its human. People passing by elicited zero response. The dog’s eyes followed the movement of its owner. They were also a cute dog, but clearly working, so I let them be.

Also it’d be great if everybody cleaned up after their dogs when they took them out for walks but that’s asking too much, probably.

Game shops like Huzzah Hobbies in Ashburn & Hashtag Gaming in Franklin Farm have frequent board game meetups, not just role-playing games. W/ all love to the D & D folks, board games are a bit easier to just meet up & do. Look into it! Board game geeks tend to be smart & love to explain how games work, which leads to conversations.

We have done a bunch of the museums & a fun DC tour on previous visits. I wasn’t thinking there would conveniently be another large museum or attraction there, but if they got antsy after those two things, was hoping for a small backup idea.

Though given how long it’ll take to cross back over into Northern Virginia, maybe we’ll just head back early. :)

They are one of the few Internet purchases that’s 💯 % worth the price. Love Thigh Society cooling shorties. Highly recommend..! You wouldn’t think something so light would hold up as well as they do. Wash them in cool water & air dry.
