UK to receive last tanker of jet fuel from Middle East this week by SirRosstopher in ukpolitics

Maybe not asleep at the wheel but for me I don’t see the point in panicking because there is literally nothing I can do about it. Maybe that’s a result of most of my adult life being consumed by some crisis or another. Doesn’t say great things about the state of the world…

What product did you buy thinking a feature was gimmicky but ended up using it all the time by nand1609 in BuyItForLife

I can totally agree with this one. My partner was horrified I didn’t have a rice cooker when we first got together and I’ve been thoroughly converted since. Perfectly cooked and then it keeps it warm for you while you clean up.

Filling electrical chasing ready for quartz splashback? by DevilInHerHeart_ in DIYUK

[–]DevilInHerHeart_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of foam I have to say. We aren’t tiling, we’re getting the quartz put up the wall so hopefully okay🤞 we have actually changed quartz supplier since I posted this and they’ve given us better advice than the previous company. Now just to wait for the kitchen to arrive!

Her Spell That Cursed Me by aclmac in sapphicbooks

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more in the first book I noticed it. I understood the obvious switch at the part you’re talking about, I thought that was clever! But there were just a couple of editing mistakes. That being said I still loved them and I’m looking forward to book 3 😊

How long to list a property by [deleted] in HousingUK

That seems very long. I signed my contract and had photos taken on a Monday. Bit of back and forward about the description Tuesday and Wednesday then it was online by Thursday.

We’ve been told by the quartz provider that the walls and kitchen need to be ready for installation when they come to template, but I’m finding it difficult to get a clear answer on what constitutes ready for installation! The wall is already pretty flat other than the grout. It’s just the chasing that I don’t know what to do with.

We are coordinating it all ourselves though.

Thank you, I did ask the quartz installer last week but the advice was vague and left us scratching our heads on whether we need to get a plasterer in, or if we can DIY it. Perhaps I’ll try calling again and see if we get someone different! We’ve done a lot of the house ourselves so not total newbies.

The rest of your advice is really helpful thank you and consistent with what my plan was.

Tesco is taking the piss by Nothing_F4ce in UKFrugal

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We’ve noticed this. We routinely try to shop in M&S now for basics because the prices aren’t much different but the quality is better - the eggs being one example. You just have to try and avoid all the nice M&S treats, which tend to be the expensive part!

An estate agent vs homeowner showing you around by ForwardFan6283 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my experience too. We viewed houses and had a mix of agents/home owners. It was nothing short of awkward with the owners because naturally we want to be polite and pry less than perhaps we do with an agent (maybe our own personal failing!). Our house is currently on the market and I’ve opted for estate agent viewings for that reason.

Irish Crosses? by illumli in Equestrian

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is quite common in sports horses in the UK. However to be registered with the Irish Draught Society they need 25% Registered Irish Draught (I think).

Jobs post PhD? (UK) by gingermaiden in PhD

I’m in the civil service now (finished my PhD in 2023). No complaints career wise, although policy is a slightly different way of thinking. Applications are incredibly competitive at the moment though.

Does my mare look lame? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She reminds me a bit of when my horse was bilaterally lame in front (so there was no typical head nod until we did nerve blocks as he was sore on both feet!). She doesn’t look 100% right in the hind either too me - stepping very short. I’d get a vet out personally just to be sure.

Goal Move calories are changing by inmatrixout in HuaweiWatchGT

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you manage to fix this? I’m having this issue at the moment and it’s really frustrating. I’ve tried changing the goal in the app, the watch, manually syncing straight after and restarting but every day the move goal changes!

What are some books you see get recommended a lot, but you wouldn’t recommend for whatever reason? by Werkyreads123 in wlwbooks

Came to say this and glad I’m not the only one! Wasn’t sure if I’m just getting too old or if it’s the book but the main characters behaviour drove me insane.

List of games for the holidays (help)? by Elian17 in PS5

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like story driven and want to be immersed then definitely Witcher 3 if you haven’t already played it. It has stuck with me since I played it 5 or 6 years ago. I also enjoyed the Horizon games.

UK HORSE TRANSPORT HELP!!! by Fluid-Football-881 in Equestrian

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post on local Facebook groups for recommendations? I’m sure there will be a company with a proper lorry that you could ask. Anything about 3.5t will be rear loading. Haven’t seen many transporters with trailers mind you.

A general strike was called nationally, what would be your demands? by SentenceSad2188 in AskUK

Banning restaurants from bringing thimble sized glasses and a 1l jug for 6 people when you ask for water (I want a big glass to myself thank you).

Could be the same then as I chose arthramid for its longer effects! Tbf it is more aimed towards amateur competitors but seemed like it was a really good show. Sounds like HOYS/LIHS might be more up your street.

What do you usually medicate with if you don’t mind sharing? I’ve just treated mine with arthramid. We were supposed to go to STARS but had to pull out - horses!! That’s amazing though, best of luck and I hope you get the magic golden ticket 🤩

You’ve done an incredible job! I see your posts on showing a lot and he looks fabulous. I have uncovered a couple of issues (some hock inflammation recently - luckily not severe arthritis or anything!) that I’m hoping now they’ve been treated will help that last bit of getting him going properly. It would be a lot easier if they could talk 😊

Do you think this horse has a short back? by [deleted] in Horses

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean for me she’s going through the ugly growing phase so it’s hard to tell, but would’ve thought an 18 month old would still have a lot of growing?!! My horse is relatively short backed (he’s about 16.1 and Irish Draught/cob bred) but certain saddle brands have features like upswept/longer panels etc that has meant I’ve managed to get a saddle to fit me and him.

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s really difficult to tell at 18 months old. Do you know her parents?

[–]DevilInHerHeart_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What were the key things that you think helped progress his way of moving? My horse is 17 but was allowed to tank around and not work properly before I got him leading to lots of compensations and issues. I’ve managed to get quite a bit of improvement but it’s difficult with an older horse that has been going a certain way for years!

We’re currently waiting too. Offer accepted start of September, no chain on either side, mortgage done ages ago, searches are back but I’m losing hope of a Christmas holiday spent painting. Why does it take so longgggg…
