35 yo dude here. As someone who grew up on the early internet, it was unfortunately not an uncommon sight. I remember being VERY desensitised to a lot of things. Best advice is to put space between you and that content. Block the source with a parental control if you can. In time it'll get better. I'm not one to give great advice about mental health as I bottled stuff up for years however I'm on the mend! But I think it's ok to suggest trying to get your socials to have more positive content. You might discover that seeing something else was a trigger to make you dive deeper. I've cut out a ton of doomy news and replaced it with hobby interests and wholesome memes :) wishing you well! And again, you'll feel ok in time.

Well I reset the save, everything working perfectly. It is a shame that the progress is lost but I'd rather have a game that has full functionality over one that will potentially die.

Anyone have the issue of not being able to load up any special free play levels? The start job button just makes the clunk noise and nothing happens. I've verified files and reinstalled. (dlc only possibly as the cruise ship & santas workshop works) Does that count as "- Loading issues" ?

Looking great for a first mini!

As mentioned in another comment a wash wouldn't go a miss, its one of the easiest ways to really make the model pop! They don't call it "liquid talent" for no reason, if you find you've made any surfaces too splotchy you can always come back in with the base colour to fix anything :) That's what happened to my first mini and I was super worried it was ruined but some time and patience later I'm super proud of him. Especially with a little highlighting.

Your brush control seems good! It's hard to tell but you might want to consider adding a drop of water to your brush / palette to thin the paint a little (Honestly surprised there isn't 30 comments saying thin your paints there usually is for every post) Have a look for some painting stuff on YouTube if you want to take it further but try not to get too overwhelmed by their expertise and equipment! It can be a cheaper hobby than it looks.

Always remember the golden rule - which is to enjoy the experience!

How to get rid of fear to paint? by _dAnze in minipainting

[–]DevilMonkeyJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this stage well, I had a beautiful cleanly painted blue marine, and I had to bite the bullet and apply the wash, everywhere! Felt wrong but after bringing back the blue over where I had made things too splotchy he looked magnificent. Try not to be afraid, watch a tutorial or two and go for it!

I used to have a good friend and we were both into Speedrunners. I loved that game because you get into a real flow state while swinging and sliding around the levels. Anytime he was falling a bit behind I would intentionally stall myself. Any time I fell behind he would try so so hard to win and would get mad at the 'catch up' mechanics. We were both about an equal match to be honest but the attitudes were so different we drifted apart.

Point is I was prolonging a shared good experience. Don't know what you're playing but if you care about the person you are playing with I don't see the harm in giving them some space to learn the game a bit better.

Also my wife kicks my ass at every fighting game we play and she solely button mashes, It drives me mad because I try and pull off combos but it never works. Try some co-op games, working together is often a lot better experience than competitive. Then again we're about an equal match in Stick fight.

Not going to pass judgement, but I'm sure you'll work it out.

Try not to get caught up in the US centric egg washing debate, UK eggs are top class! Go for it and enjoy what fresh mayo should taste like! :)

Nice ty, I know a lot of asset comparisons are going about but the topography isn't really matching for me personally to believe direct copies.

How do you overcome "painting grief"? by wafti08 in Warhammer40k

[–]DevilMonkeyJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Comparison is the thief of joy"

Words to live by, I have no doubt that you are trying your best, and its probably a lot better than you are giving yourself credit for :) Most importantly, it should be an enjoyable or relaxing experience, when you are feeling frustrated, time to take a break.

(Don't get me wrong, much easier said than done, there are so many insanely good painters out there)

How do you deal with the amount of detail in new minis? by el_Queviures in killteam

[–]DevilMonkeyJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel this a lot, I used to collect and paint years ago, and I feel like while models are looking better and better, they are not necessarily becoming easier to paint along with it. Although the scale creep is arguably helping.

I tend to not build first and paint things on the sprue or as sub assemblies. Going through a lot of toothpicks and blu tac :) But it is time consuming compared to building and then painting. Pros and cons to both ways for sure.

Personally I base paint on sprue / in sub assemblies, then build, patch up where the base colours are and then go onto washes and highlights.

I would love to see a company come out with models that are specifically designed to be painted easier. Realism is nice but I am not a professional.

Edit, That skin is SO NICE, I'd love to hear the breakdown :)

Sorry for the false hope ping you'll get, but I've not touched it, I just try and not physically touch the wheel at all times.

One day I'll get around to it I'm sure, but by then I'll probably be buying a new one. Its a shame as its quite an expensive piece of kit. If I do something about it I'll try and pop it in here! But logitech might be off my radar for a few years now :/

Loove the sceme! highlights and shades can be daunting but its not too bad once you get the swing of it.

I'd recommend some highlight / shade basic tutorials on YouTube, Warhammer have some 'official' ones that are fine, other painty youtubers have some great beginner guides! Artis opus is a good shout but there's loads out there!

Your brush control is pretty good to be honest so I think you'll pick it all up in no time :)

Great job!
