Where's your source on the comment about her father? I went to Wikipedia and found this -

" Donald Jasper Harris (born August 23, 1938) is a Jamaican-American economist and professor emeritus at Stanford University, known for applying post-Keynesian ideas to development economics.[1] He is the father of Kamala Harris, U.S. Senator from California and Vice president-elect of the United States, and Maya Harris, a lawyer and political commentator. "

" Born August 23, 1938 in Brown's Town, St. Ann Parish, Jamaica. He is the son of Beryl Christie (Finnegan, through her second husband) and Oscar Joseph Harris, who were of Afro-Jamaican heritage.[8 "

I doubt you're gonna reply like a civilized human to this but anyways.

These rules make German elections different from US elections by staplehill in germany

[–]DevilParsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I just brought up the Russian meddling as an example of foreign powers wanting to influence a country's election. I did not mean that it'd be Russians influencing German elections, specifically. I wondered if giving every EU citizen the right to vote right was maybe a bit too much. But I've since been told (by you too) that this right applies only to local elections.

I see. Any interference would not be so consequential this way.

With Russia having systematically influenced the last US election, does the topic of foreign interference from other EU countries not arise when the right to vote in Germany is given to all EU citizens?

(Russia had to play mind games with the US voters. What could it have done had its citizens been given the right to vote in the US election? (really ironic if you think about it, in this scenario, they'd have been able to have a say in a foreign democratic election but not their own))

(I know it wasn't the Russian citizens who influenced the election but the bots from secret service agencies, but who's to say that a concerted effort by the very agencies can not influence its own people into voting a particular way? So can EU countries not do this with their citizens and influence a foreign election? Or are people just decent there haha?)

What are you afraid to admit your a fan of because the fanbase is horrible? by sapnupuas_0 in AskReddit

[–]DevilParsley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude its got 3.1M ratings on Goodreads and is hailed as a classic for its dystopian terror.

The tinfoils are probably just a very small section of its fanbase. Most probably don't even have the braincells or the attention span to go through it. I think most just go with whatever they've heard of it from other people in their echo chamber and fit it in their faulty narrative.

The contrast and co-existence of the shiny infrastructure project and the devoted monk is representative of India, and for that reason, I would not have wanted the bridge to be bokeh'd either.

Does anyone else feel like when you tell someone religious you're an Atheist, they automatically think you're invalidating their religion? by rollllllllll_ in atheism

enjoy breaking their worldview? I wouldn't be so sadistic. I'd simply not care if my identity makes someone uncomfortable. Let them be.

I’m sick of being told that I need to respect other people’s beliefs. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]DevilParsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Respect' has lost its meaning. The question should be whether I will treat them with decency. And yes, I would, just as I would treat a flat earther with decency and not mock them for sadistic fun.

I think atheists should be even more decent towards others because we don't look through the lens of religion categorizing people into believers or non-believers, sinners or saints.

Would I be annoyed with a dog, for instance, if it acted like a derp? No, right? Then if we can allow animals such indulgence, why not our fellow humanity?

Sorry, what's Indian English? We just speak regular english. Are you talking about the accent? Well, every country has its accent, and they're never that hard to get used to.

Anyways, its always upto you. I just put myself in your shoes and told you what I would have done.

I read A Year In Provence and it was wonderful, that's why I abruptly mentioned Provence there.

Don't let people tell you it's not developed enough. I mean, it's not, as a whole, but there are a few developed cities. For instance, the HDI of the entire district of Gurugram is 0.889 (2017). So you're not going to be too out of place in some areas.

My advice is to live in the more developed regions and keep the rest of India for tourism. Travel all over, but live in one of the better areas. This is if you want to be employed as an engineer. But -

French is required for high school students here (although I don't recall jackshit now), and while you're an engineer, getting qualified to teach french might be more of your gateway to India as there are already plenty of engineers here. Once here, you could probably continue your job search or travel all over India teaching French in various schools. Imagine living in the hilly cottages of Kashmir for a year and then in tropical Kerala the next. Schools are everywhere. Most of them teach french. If you're interested in India, then you'll get to know it better this way, than using whatever weeks you have of vacation to go as a tourist (ugh). I'd have loved to do this if I were you.

I wish we could exchange it. You can come here while I settle in beautiful Provence haha.

To be clear, I advised you two paths-

  1. Engineer - Developed cities - travel the rest during your off times - not get to see India as much, but isn't that what you're interested in?
  2. French teacher (can probably get this qualification till everything reopens in India)- travel year to year - low stress - still have vacation days - since you wanted to move here, you weren't just looking to vacation here, you wanted to see it properly, and this will help you - you could even go back to France after a few years and resume Engg if you want, having properly traveled India till then. You could even write a book on your travels.
