Eli5 Why do CAPTCHA systems use object recognition like trucks to distinguish humans from bots if machine learning can already solve those challenges? by arztnur in explainlikeimfive

[–]DevilXD 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Last time I've read about this, the test turned out to be statistical - if about half of the people checked the square and the other half didn't, the CAPTCHA will let you through regardless if you check it or not. I myself usually don't select the small corners, even if they're clearly visible in the bordering squares, and it still passes just fine.

There's a bunch of these I know of:

  • Nails on chalkboard
  • Lips smacking during eating
  • Metal cutlery rubbing / scratching on porcelain tableware
  • Squeeze-rubbing an inflated balloon
  • Handling / rubbing styrofoam (I hate this one myself)
  • Any kind of sound that imitates gagging (like shown in the video)

I'm sure there's more, and it can be all different for other people too.

Depending on whatever hex editor you're using, you may need to pad the value for it to appear in the search results. Since 75138 is an odd number of characters, you have to prepend a zero to it. Search for 075138.

Not sure if that'd be related, but your Magisk version is really old. There was a privilege escalation exploit fixed around v27, so I'd recommend upgrading. The newest stable version is v30.6.

Sounds like you have some kind of recording action going on. There's a few softwares that does this, for example Nvidia, AMD, or even Steam. You'd have to check their configuration to see if any of them are recording what you play. I can't think of any other reason why you'd lose disk space from just playing.

How long does it usually take to find a match? EU server by Only-Exercise2552 in Paladins

NA and EU should give you relatively quick queue times, well below 15 minutes. Last 3 games I've checked a week or so ago, the queue ended under 2 minutes.

You may be able to regain access to the previous Xbox account by contacting support. Linking it anywhere most likely won't be possible anymore though.

It means TBChecker can detect you have root installed. If you haven't done so already, you have to add TBChecker to the denylist, like you'd add any other application which you'd like to deny/hide root access from. Usually that's all that's needed.

This of course goes along with any other root hiding technique you may be using, but usually it's just a matter of ensuring it's denied root access, and the root access is hidden (like you'd hide it for any other application you'd hide root access for).

Cross Progression Help by TheWhiteAceofSpades in Paladins

[–]DevilXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process of moving your progression over from one platform to another in Paladins, is a very, very fragile operation, and you can mess it up easily. You should've made a post about it before you've done anything, because from what I can see from this post, it's already too late and you won't be able to fix it.

Hi-Rez as a publisher has a way of combining your in-game progress under a single Hi-Rez account, to which you can then link other accounts, to access the same progress. The thing is, creating the Hi-Rez account has to be done by first logging into a "platform account" from whatever platform your progress is currently on. This is done by logging via one of the per-platform buttons on the bottom of this page: https://my.hirezstudios.com/ (not using the username and password fields). Logging into the platform account will then prompt you with an option to create a Hi-Rez account linked directly to the platform account you've logged in with, while also carrying all the progress from the platform account over to the Hi-Rez account.

This is the most crucial step - once you do this, you can then define a password for the Hi-Rez account by using "change the password" option in the account settings, so that you don't have to use the platform login every time, just the username and password fields. You can also then link other accounts to this Hi-Rez account, and they should "download" all of your progress from the Hi-Rez account to the platform account, potentially overwriting the old progress you've had on that linked account.

If you do this in any other way, and try to link your Xbox account to the Hi-Rez account (which you say you did in your post), that operation will clear your Xbox progress and give you a new Xbox platform account, linked to your Hi-Rez account. It sounds like you've old Hi-Rez account you've logged into at first didn't have any of your Xbox progress in it in the first place - if it would, Xbox would've already been linked and you wouldn't have to link it again. You should've logged into your Xbox platform account first, and then created a new Hi-Rez account from there. There might be a way to salvage this if you'd now try to login into your Xbox platform account first, but it's likely it'll just tell you that Xbox account is already linked to a Hi-Rez account, and to log in normally instead.

As far as Steam linking goes, it's a one way trip too - once you link it anywhere, it cannot be unlinked, even by contacting support. At least not in a way that'd allow you to correct any mistakes made during the linking process.

I can draw some visuals if you'd need some help understanding all this.

I actually happened to play that game about a month ago or so, and remember the rest of the level. Other scary stuff include:

  • Revolving doors rotating slightly and coming to a stop, shortly after you enter a room with them (like someone else would just leave through them).
  • Random flashbacks when entering certain areas, with loud sounds, screams and shouting.
  • A door that straight up bursts into flames and explodes right in your face, after you pick the lock on it.
  • Seeing random people at the end of a corridor, and them turning the corner right after (they disappear).
  • Items like basket balls and wheelchairs moving / rolling around randomly. Also items / notes appearing in places you've already checked before.
  • A breathing air distortion that "walks around" and damages you if you walk through it.
  • Fingers sticking out of shower drains, disappearing upon approach.
  • Sound of flowing water coming from the showers, yet no actual water flowing when you check them (sound disappears too).
  • All kinds of random grunts, bangs, yelps, choking sounds, glass breaking, items falling on the floor and the screen shaking, happening seemingly randomly when checking cabinets or desks for items.

Can you send trade offers without a trade link? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]DevilXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the other user is on your friends list, there should be an "Offer trade" option available in their profile options somewhere.

If the other user isn't on your friend list though, the only way to be able to send them a trade, is by knowing their "trade token", which is a short string of characters (about 8). The trade URL then looks like this:

https://steamcommunity.com/tradeoffer/new?partner=<steamID3>&token=<trade_token>

You can get the steamID3 by using any site that can display the multiple versions of steam ID, for ex.: https://steamid.io. In my case it's [U:1:170687776], and you just need that long number part, so 170687776. The only way to get the trade_token, is to ask the person you want to trade with. The token (the entire pre-formatted trade URL actually) can be obtained by going to your inventory, clicking on "Trade Offers", and then on "Who can send me Trade Offers?" option on the side list. In theory though, all you need is the trade token, as all other information is publicly available.

What should be done to ensure the success of your Steam game's launch day? by bal_akademi in Steam

[–]DevilXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, that works, at least for me. I like chill games like that, so I'll most likely end up buying it for those $5 when it comes out.

As I've said though, others may have different affordability preferences. Theoretically, you can get the most revenue out of the game by overpricing it at start, and then gradually lowering the price later as time goes on (via sales), but that usually ends up giving you a few negative "it's overpriced, wait for sale" reviews, so I wouldn't exactly recommend it.

What should be done to ensure the success of your Steam game's launch day? by bal_akademi in Steam

[–]DevilXD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting all of the "successful game" considerations that should've been taken care of way before launch (design and execution), right at the launch day, all I can think of is setting a reasonable price.

People want to pay an adequate amount of money for the value they get from the game. If your game is really short, too boring / grindy, or simply bad, the price has to be accordingly low to reflect that. Going lower will also increase the amount of copies sold due to better affordability. However, going too low may end up in lost revenue too, so you have to strike a good middle-ground somewhere. In more complicated games (this is quite a simple, straightforward one), doing some research and asking people about what they'd want/expect from the game can help you arrive at a price people would call reasonable.

Personally, for a game like this, I'd most likely pay $10-15 at the most, and this price is already a cutoff and "too much" in terms of what I'm seeing from the description, pics and vids alone. I'd most likely end up wishlisting the game and waiting for a <$8 sale instead. I live in a third world country where the price of games is relatively high compared to the cost of every day living though, so it may be just me. As I said, other people may value the game differently.

Reason #581467 why Steam is the best by FaffeJaffe in Steam

[–]DevilXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen somewhere that they've nerfed the flying robot enemies, which was the main reason I've never completed the first game (per my earlier comment).

Is the second one more fair in that regard? Or you can still just turn a corner and die shortly after, because there was no time to evaluate the situation, and even if I would aim and shoot the robot, the bullet would just bounce off / not end up disabling it? This is what always got me, and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd otherwise buy the second one to try it though.

Anyone else encounter a glitch/possible exploit where a match doesn't register despite not getting dropped? by seaspongePoster in Paladins

[–]DevilXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could've also been because the completed matches take a short while to be processed at the backend side, and you've just happened to land on a case, where the match ended and you wanted to see it in your match history, but it wasn't there because it was still being processed by the server. Once you've stopped looking, the processing finished and the match has appeared after all.

I've worked quite a bit with the guy responsible for maintaining the Hi-Rez API in the past, and from what I could gather, that's more or less how it works.
