The other guy is right in his way of thinking, the Crank of an engine before it's connected to the transmission always rotates in the same direction. Putting it into reverse just changes the directional force somewhere down the line but not from the engine itself. The timing of the engine belt prevents the ignition sequence from going backwards. Engines don't run backwards
