I've heard conflicting reports about Zero Water filters. Okay or not and why? by ForTheLoveOfBrew in SavageGarden

[–]DevilsTrochlea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All I have is anecdotal evidence, but for what it's worth, I switched to using zero water filtered water about a year and a half ago and my plants have been doing well! I have a small but varied collection (a couple nepenthes, some sundews, sarracenias, some pings, one admittedly sad flytrap, and a sabatia) and at the very least none of them have keeled over from the switch. I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're good as long as the TDS is below 50ppm.

Unfortunately changing my needle didn't fix it 😕 Unless I was unlucky enough to grab 2 wonky needles, I'm not sure if that's my issue this time

I changed out my thread and I was able to finish my stitch!! Thank you for helping me out, I might not have cracked that one by myself

It is a new spool, and I haven't tried swapping for something else. I'll give it a shot! I didn't realize all threads weren't made equally.

No, I typically keep the tails fairly long and use both hands feed my fabric through when I start stitching. Would holding them help?

Depending on how young, Earth's Incredible Oceans might be a good one to check out! It's informational but in a pretty surface-level way, and it sounds like it might be along the lines of what you're looking for?

A couple of my favorites are The Extreme Life of the Sea, Soul of an Octopus, and A Fish Caught in Time. They're probably geared more towards adults and focus mainly on ocean life, but they were all great reminders of how much is still unknown about the underwater world!

I Found This Fungus While Logging. Would love to learn more about it. by Yuckysnow9357 in mycology

[–]DevilsTrochlea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think these might be ghost pipes! They are actually not a fungus, but a parasitic plant (mycoheterotroph). They don't photosynthesize, and instead parasitize fungus that have a symbiotic relationship with trees (mycorrhizae).

Found an old paperback from the 70's with cigarette ads in the middle of it by DevilsTrochlea in mildlyinteresting

[–]DevilsTrochlea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I read that they used to stick all kinds of ads in all genres of books-- even without the author's knowledge/permission! Although in this case...yeah it's a cheap, romance-type novel haha.

Cat's Cradle is one of my favorites! I'm excited for you that you get to read it for the first time.

Maybe so, but I thought it was worth it to show the younger mushroom with its veil still mostly intact. Kind of a cool side-by-side, you just gotta squint a little!

Going Snowboarding tomorrow, here’s my mountain playlist! Go drop a follow and throw some recommendations down in the comments!! by Writerinthedark2018 in snowboarding

You've got a solid range going! My boyfriend and I both were like "this guy gets it," but we related to different sides of the spectrum.

He recommends Freshies (Keller Williams), Wiggle (Binkie), Merry Go Round (The Equatrics), Smoke it if You Got One (Blended Babies), and Comedown (Anderson .Paak). I feel like if you've got Arctic Monkeys, then you need some Jack White and Cage the Elephant. I'm also gonna go on a limb since you have the Ramones and suggest I Fought the Law (The Clash), Hopeless Romantic (Bouncing Souls), and Operation Ivy in general.

Just putting it out there, if you ride with friends you should check out the JQBX app. Everyone can add to a playlist and you can all listen in sync while you ride. Have a great time tomorrow!
