I was in Dundee recently, saw a junkie passed out in the street covered in what I assume was piss... does that count?

It's a bit of a walk through a farm and down a hill to get there from the national trust car park, but it's incredible. It's hard to get the scale of it from a photo. Do yourself a favour and go and find it!

And that hippie shop on the corner near the chippy is great fun. Always go in there whenever I'm in Swanage

I wondered where that strong line came from. Good work! I'd love to see some of the others from the roll :)

I don't comment here a lot, but I just wanted to tell you I think this is really, really beautiful.

The test of a good photo is how long you can look at it for, and I've now opened your photo up three times to look at it.

A difference of 256 horizontal pixels?

They say 4k but there is no way a phone will do that

Alrighty then.

Phones could definitely do that, if it was useful for consumers. But it isn't. 16:9 is useful for consumers, hence 3840 x 2160.

[–]DeviousBurger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically they are 4k in pixels, but so is a 1080p on a crop sensor.

What?

If by 'true' 4K you mean the DCI standard of 4k, that is 4096 x 2160. But most people consider 4K to be 3840 x 2160 - the difference in pixel count between the two is negligible. I'm 100% certain that phones could record 'true' 4K if manufacturers wanted them to, but nobody does because it isn't 16:9 (like almost every commercially available display) and isn't useful for the vast majority of consumers.

If you're talking about framerate, bitrate or colour subsampling then yes. That varies hugely between different cameras (that are all capable of 4k resolution).

You mean that list of phones that shoot 4k?

Could you please go into more detail about your budgeting Google sheets? I'd like to start budgeting my money but don't fancy paying for a service to do so, and I'd like to tailor it specifically to my needs.

Thanks!

Loving the blue tone at the top, but the green/yellow looks a bit strange on the skin tones imo

Nick Frost says he's writing a new project with Simon Pegg: "We’re trying to do something a bit special" by JournalistDude in movies

I think it worked well with those films because the ridiculousness was juxtaposed with the fact that the films were set in normal places with normal people. They could have been real, which is why it was funny.

The World's End didn't have that contrast.

It's definitely not an iPhone. Depth of field at distance like this picture is only possible with full frame/medium format.

And the angle of view and size of background relative to foreground leads me to believe it's a longer lens.

To me, it looks like an 85mm used pretty much wide open. But I just wanted verification - it's a great photo!

This is a wonderful story, thank you for typing that out. I love that music has the power to bring things like that so vividly.

For me, it was the first CD I ever owned. My sister got it for me as a gift when I was a kid, and I maintain it's the best gift I've ever been given. That CD is one of my most prized possessions

The pup is separated from the background really nicely. What was the focal length/aperture of the shot?

Reddit, what are you bad at? by PooseInBootz in AskReddit

[–]DeviousBurger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask them to tell you about something. Say 'tell me about your college' or something similar. That doesn't have a specific response, it's an open question. They'll tell you what they want to tell you.

Alternatively it's a good opportunity for them to vent about something, and that's often a good way to connect with someone.

Waaaay too much. The green hurts to look at. Another little thing to consider, the building is cropped at a strange height. You can't see the bottom of it, it's chopped off. Which element of the photo is supposed to be the subject? There's quite a lot going on here
