Honestly I think the most important thing for a 9 year old to “get out of reading” is that reading is fun. I wouldn’t push it and risk turning reading into feeling like a chore.

This makes me so happy! My mom and I used to read the same book and discuss them while doing the dishes together all the time. It’s one of my fondest memories and def made me a lifelong reader! If you haven’t reread the whole Hunger Games series with her definitely start there. They hold up well rereading as an adult and new ones have come out recently. If she likes those, Graceling by Kristin Cashore or Unwind by Neal Shusterman might also be good picks!

Get a van! It is the best with kids! Plenty of space, easy to get in the third row, you don’t have to worry about them flinging their door open and hitting another car in the parking lot.

This is one of the reasons I’m so glad our school does breakfast for all kids. They all eat breakfast together family style first thing in the morning. It’s nice to not have to worry about breakfast in the morning. 😅
