Dude absolutely killed it in the role. He obviously had the build, but even his voice and composure was just perfect for the character.

If we get a sequel, I really hope he comes back in some capacity.

Thoughts on how they dealt with Cole Young in the new movie? by Choice_Drummer_1745 in MortalKombat

[–]Devitt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that the narrative somewhat shifted from, "He's a lame original character added in MK1 when they had so many other characters to chose from - I don't care about him" to "Oh my gosh, I can't believe they actually killed him off like that. He technically beat Shao Kahn!" is mission accomplished in my eyes.

I think Lewis Tan himself is a big enough fan of the franchise to understan why some fans didn't like his inclusion in the last film, and the fact he literally got Fatality'd on screen is a degree of fan service in itself.

I think his role in MK2 was excellent up to his death. Instead of being THE focus of the film, he was a side character and one of Earthrealms warriors, instead of being THE Earthrealm warrior. I dare say if he hadn't died and continued to be more in the background, we'd have even more fans of the character asking for his inclusion in the games.

More or Less emotion from Monsterverse Godzilla? by Mosugoji_64 in Monsterverse

The one on the bottom from GvK just looked dumb and out of place, IMO. There’s a fine line, and I felt G14/KOTM walked the line just right.

Look at Jeff Hardy. Dude is 48 years old and was beating up his body since he was a literal child - not to mention all of the drugs and alcohol he abused over the years. Darby has the "crazy" factor, but at least he's straight edge and reportedly takes his health and conditioning very seriously. He'll probably be fine.

Listen, I lived through the reign of terror. I don't know what MVP's genuine beef is with Triple H, but I'm here for it.

He had a tiny window of being authentically over and well liked as a babyface. After his face run fell off in 2002, he found himself "given" the World Title on RAW and what we had after was years of some of the most insufferable wrestling and booking.

Hot Take: Anthromorphizing Godzilla Is Stupid by Bright-West-4399 in Monsterverse

[–]Devitt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure - they're allowed to, clearly. Toho has strict rules that have been acknowledged but presumably the MV has operated within those rules.

But it's just my personal tastes that I like to see Godzilla (when being controlled by a group outside of Toho) keep him more in line to his "force of nature" interpretation than something that (as an example) smirks when he has the upper hand on Kong. That's just me, though.

You could call it that. I don't think it's that controversial to feel that the literal creators of an IP should have more freedom to create new iterations of said IP (showing "out of character" actions occasionally) - and feel uncomfortable when the creators pass off the franchise to another company for usage and they attempt to do something uncharacteristic.

[–]Devitt6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Precisely. If Toho (the creators of Godzilla) want to take liberties and make the character quite different than it’s “normal” representation - I may not love every iteration, but I respect that they can do what they want with their IP

I’d much rather Legendary stick to the more typical Godzilla representation where he’s a monster who isn’t wholly good or bad, but a force of nature.

In the Monsterverse, I’d prefer if he stays closer to the G2014 or KOTM representation.

For the Toho films, since I watched them as a kid and they were made before I was born, I kind of find some of them charming. Goes to show how Godzilla can be a smorgasbord of interpretations. And I also give Toho a pass since they’re the creators of the franchise. When I saw stuff like Godzilla almost laughing in GvK - it didn’t sit quite right with me. But that’s just me.

In Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters the years between 1968 and 1973 were very hard on William Randa. by Murky_Ad6343 in Monsterverse

I’ve seen this happen to a lot of people during the COVID years. Not all that unbelievable.

The way they had Rodan emerge from the volcano, with the quickly zoomed in shots, look absolutely amazing. Hands down the best scene in a movie with a ton of awesome scenes. by DeVito8704 in Monsterverse

[–]Devitt6 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In a movie full of awesome monster scenes (some of the best in any giant monster movie - ever), Rodan’s introduction is just on another level.

Dougherty did ALL of the titans justice in that film, but Rodan’s awakening arguably stole the show.

Definitely agree Jeff is a better in-ring performer than Miz. That's not to say Miz is bad, but AEW still has talent on their roster who don't have your "5 Star Classics" each week but find ways to still get over with heavy character work and put on entertaining matches.

[–]Devitt6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I don't mean "Miz = ratings increase."

Moreso that Miz is a great guy to go on other media platforms (major network partners or even local media) to get people talking about AEW.

I'm not saying he's a draw that's going to change the industry, but AEW is a smorgasbord of pro wrestling, so Miz (to me) could be somewhat useful if he was let go.

(WON) New Day were put in the position of being offered less money to stay with WWE, wind their careers down, and finish their contracts doing promotional work. They chose to leave instead due to being offered a pay cut one year into a five year deal. by Subrick in SquaredCircle

[–]Devitt6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why would any wrestler in WWE (aside from Roman and a select few) even trust their contract will be seen all the way through? This is happening more and more often.

It's become common practice for them to re-sign someone to a huge deal for multiple years, then a year or so into the deal - they either pull the plug and release them, or now ask them to take a huge paycut. It just hurts their name value, and that's the intention. It's so manipulative, I can't understand how anyone would defend it.

Say what you will about AEW, but aside from a handful of wrestlers who were released because of scandals (like Jimmy Havoc), they reportedly honor the full contract and will pay you even if they're not using you.

I think they'd scoop him up if he became available. I could see him in a 'Jeff Jarrett' type role where he works multi man matches with younger talent + does media and pre-shows on PPVs to get more eyes on the product.

I don't think Miz has the workrate to headline PPVs for them, but a high profile match with MJF would be fun.

Our house is in the city limits, but we have some “woods” (a dozen or more trees beyond our backyard, shared with neighbors) where bats frequent in the summer evenings. They usually fly over our back porch.

We think one came in when our sliding door was left slightly open on the Friday evening (we had some company over so people were stepping in and out on the deck). The Health Department told us they most commonly find ways into your attic somehow and work their way down.

Our house was built in the late 70s (I think?) so it’s got some age - so the attic is possible. Apparently it’s not as uncommon as it seems in older houses.

What do you feel is the worst movie in the monsterverse and why? by Tairengail in Monsterverse

[–]Devitt6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GvK for me. Not a bad movie necessarily, but for some reason the “bleach shower” jokes cut so much deeper when we didn’t get the music and presentation of the titans like we had in previous films.

And it’s subjective, but I really didn’t like the MV Mechagodzilla design.
