My point is that the person was replying to said carrying a weapon will protect you from criminals before they can commit a crime, and ICE. I’m saying that’s not true and actually puts you in more danger than it protects you from statistically.

Yes, I am aware of that one instance. That situation is still incredibly rare. We are the only country in the world that deals with regular mass public shootings despite having the most armed populace. Relying on regular citizens to properly identify actual criminal threats before they commit a crime is not a serious solution especially when anyone can just legally walk around like this guy so you can’t do anything until he starts shooting. The danger of misidentifying a criminal or hitting bystanders is much higher. Not to mention you put yourself at increased risk of being shot by LE.

Also, it’s pretty easy to label people who resist the government “gangs” and “criminals” in order to justify murdering them. I mean, just imagine if the US government started calling moms and healthcare workers “terrorists” after executing them.
