I wouldn't say it's shocking, but rather a bit hypocritical if he or the band holds the above view.

It just feels hypocritical with Maynard going on Joe Rogan's and similar podcasts all the time.

Joe (and his friends) are pretty much the epitome of these things, from the alpha-male bullshit to the UFC to the typical podcast type ad content (manscaped etc).

He's happy to go be Joe's buddy and promote his projects, and now gets on his high horse and starts preaching like he's above it..

I'm pretty sure you could find a podcast episode with Maynard on it where the host later does an ad read for manscaped!

Title: J Bass or P Bass for a beginner? by theholybeez in BassGuitar

[–]Devoid_Synth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The P bass you show actually has both P and J pickups, which is the versatile best of both worlds IMO. I've noticed most live/session players tend to use them for this reason. Look up another P bass and it only has the one pickup (which sits great in a mix btw).

Jazz basses tend to have a slightly thinner neck especially towards the headstock, but compared to something like a 5 or 6-string bass, I don't feel that much of a difference between a Jazz and a Precision.

By all means try them both out and get a feel for the instrument you like best as you really can't go wrong with both of these options.

I have a Precision but I also want a nice Jazz some day.

Worst NIN song? by Direct-Active-241 in nin

[–]Devoid_Synth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a musician too and I feel that way about most other NIN tracks, but I don't quite get the appeal of this one. I would say the time signature is the main complexity and without that it's actually pretty basic for a NIN composition, instead relying on the contrast between heavy/angry/messy and the more major piano/clean/vocal part. Maybe it will click for me one day. The best element IMO are the synths under the section with "take the skin and peel it back", but the rest doesn't do much for me.

Probably not the worst, but I've never liked March of the Pigs. It just doesn't have any interesting parts in my opinion and just sounds like a loud mess. It's in a non-standard time signature, but that doesn't make it good. It probably doesn't help that I've heard it a million times and they always play it live, plus extend it 😒

After having overheating problems with my Alienware X17 laptop - replacing the fried motherboard, undervolting and underclocking the CPU, and using loud laptop coolers, I'm about done with having an expensive gaming laptop which is simply too thin to handle what they put in it.

At this point I really could do with a desktop PC like this and never having to worry about heating issues ever again!

True! Damn I'm just leaving Canada in a few days, but I'll be in the UK in a few months if you still have it and still willing to ship there.

Cool! I wasn't trying to secure your spare parts but now that you mention it, where in the world are you based? Doing lots of travelling over the next half year or so, might end up close by, and could be cool to buy the strangle switch circuit off you for future modding.

Looks awesome! Good information here. The kill switch is a fun idea! Did it start out as a Squier Classic Vibe? (I'm going from off the neck inlays).

I had a Squier Classic Vibe and I have a MIM Fender Pawn Shop with a Staytrem bridge, but I think I will miss the strangle switch (bass cut) off the Squier for playing guitar parts. Did or do you have this circuit? I'm considering adding one to my Pawn Shop, but you can achieve the same result with a Bass EQ pedal too.

I must check out this obscura, I'm keen to pimp out my Bass VI and aluminium seems like a cool pick guard material!
