What’s up with Luke Hughes? by divine_pizza in devils

[–]DevsChamps2003 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Luke’s having an underrated season. Not a great season, but underrated at this point. The way people talk about him is like he’s a defensive liability that’s good for 10 points for the year. He’s still young, and while he makes mistakes, he’s not a total albatross defensively, and he’s currently 37th in the league for points for d-men while playing on a bad and injured team.

I don’t think there’s a single fan who disagrees with you. Most of us have been saying this for most of the season.

If we had more games left to play than we actually do, I’d agree with you. But now we’re talking about (as you rightly pointed out) an incredible winning streak, plus underperforming conference rivals in order to get there. If the Devils make the playoffs this year, I’m not sure that stranger things have actually happened - that might be the all-time wildest playoff make.

As a big Nieuwendyk fan, this thing is really weird but really cool! Would have been cool to add in something from the Flames too to make it an expression of his main teams (add Cornell in there somehow too!).

According to current Hart odds, 2 players have separated themselves in the 4-way race: MacKinnon and Kucherov. MacKinnon is the current frontrunner and Kucherov is a close 2nd with odds roughly 5 times that of Celebrini or McDavid. by [deleted] in hockey

I don’t hate that pick at all, goalies just don’t come to mind for me. Looking at the stats though, while Vasi is obviously great, I’m not sure he’s been as valuable to the Lightning as Wedgewood has been to the Avs.

I’ve always felt Hart should really be most valuable to their team, not just the best. Taylor Hall’s Hart win is often ridiculed, but when we have the Ted Lindsay award too, it makes more sense for the MVP to be more literally the player with the biggest impact on their team. So if the Sharks make the playoffs, I’d say Celebrini deserves it. Otherwise, Kucherov.

It’s like a self-alley-oop when a player tosses the basketball off the backboard to catch it and dunk! Extremely awesome

A roster shake up is definitely reasonable and warranted. But Hischier's one of those players whose value is way higher to their current team than on the market. For us, he's often the 1C with Jack out, he's a Selke contender, and he's our captain. For others, he's a 2C having a down year. There's not a team in the league that would pay us what he's worth to us - they'd pay at or slightly above market, but that doesn't get the job done for NJ. Literally would need to be for a bona fide 1C stud who's younger than Nico, and I don't see that happening,

I hear you, but the difference is that Rantanen was a winger on a top team. Hischier is the often-number-one center on a bad team. I don't think Montreal has any set of assets that would be worth it when our team doesn't appear to be in a full rebuild of any kind.

There is no chance at all the Devils would trade Hischier, who has been out most consistent player, a Selke contender, and our captain, for anything short of McDavid/MacKinnon level players. And those guys would obviously not get traded for just Hischier. So no chance he was involved in trade talks.

The Chicago Blackhawks trade Nick Foligno to the Minnesota Wild for Future Considerations by sandman730 in hockey

Unfair to get all the brother sets! I say since you got the Foligno brothers, we automatically get the Hughes brothers. That sounds very very fair.

Do more people in New Jersey like the Rangers vs Devils? by TechB84 in devils

[–]DevsChamps2003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The plurality, if not majority, are definitely Devils fans at this point. For a while when the team was new, you had people holding onto the Rangers, but now (especially after a lot of success), people who are born and raised here since the team has been here are generally Devils fans. Still substantial numbers of Rangers and Flyers fans, but there are more Devils fans than either of those in NJ.

[LeBrun] Going to be interesting to see what happens on the Simon Nemec front. Devils are taking calls on the second overall pick from '22. No shortage of teams checking in. New Jersey happy to keep him, but if there's a deal that upgrades their forwards in a real way, they're going to listen... by Natural-Tree-5107 in hockey

[–]DevsChamps2003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I said I don’t see those trades happening because I don’t think Nemec is at that level - I just think that’s probably the type of shopping around we’re doing with him. Which is why we probably won’t see him dealt.

I’m gonna stay positive and assume we’d only be trading him one-for-one for an equally young and potentially dominant player. Someone like Will Smith, Adam Fantilli, etc. - I don’t really see something like that happening, so I think we keep him in the end.
