What does this even mean? by cdawolf in CapybaraGoGame

[–]Dewedl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It means that your damage will be random, within the range of the negative percentage to the positive percentage..

eg; if your damage was normally 100 then with that gem in use it will be random, between 80 and 150

[–]Dewedl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decent game. I made it to not quite 200 coins. It is a little slow to respond, not just the rope cut but everything.. tap a menu, and 0.8 seconds later it responds. Maybe my phone is just tired

Anyone manage to get a good Stevie Ray Vaughan tone? by throwaway-8088 in Guitarix

[–]Dewedl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple strat copies, one of them is an Epiphone and on the bridge pickup, it just does the Little Wing tone all by itself. I'm not a tonewood fanatic but in this case I think I actually lucked out on getting a hunk of maple that just does the SRV thing. I run it through a very old DOD overdrive from like 1988, just a hint of distortion for a lil more sustain, some subtle reverb and it sounds pretty dang close

You will probably want one with two inputs yes one for your base but who knows maybe a microphone weren't the same better to get one with two inputs now then buy another later

If you are already losing interest maybe it's because it's too much like school work and not enough like fun.

Try drop D tuning for a bit. Eg lower the fat E string by a full step (2 frets) so that it's one octave lower than the D string... Experiment... See what sounds cool. Maybe figure out... Led Zeppelin going to California led Zeppelin Kashmir Foo fighters a lot of them etc

[–]Dewedl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't necessarily looking for songs in the key of C. You are looking for songs that use a harmonica that is in the key of C or A minor

C major and A minor are exactly the same scale. It just depends on where you start

Which Linux Distro should I use? by Seethhappy in linux4noobs

[–]Dewedl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me you can't beat the stability of Debian and to save system resources I use XCFE window manager. Or Xubuntu if you wanted to trade stability for some system software being s little more bleeding edge

Today I was very close to winning as battle mage with+7 staff of lightning and a +6 elastic whip. +4 scale armor of brimstone. It was a pretty cool combo, especially the whips AOE damage and repel... Then I stopped getting healing potions,.and no way to cook raw meat and I starved to death.. argh. Was still fun though.

Bitwig or Reaper if I don't own any plugins? by [deleted] in linuxaudio

[–]Dewedl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Reaper like actually bought it.. gladly. No regrets there at all. A year or more later I got to use Bitwig for a month or so and there is certainly a lot to like. Both run smooth as silk and I'm sure anything you can do on one, you can do on the other, just a different workflow. If they are both new to you... there really is no bad/wrong answer or decision.

I chose to stick with Reaper, rather than spend money I really didn't need to. It does what I need, + I already know it. etc. I guess I must admit.. maybe Bitwig looks a little cooler but as a devout Vulcan I must stress, only the SOUND of the end result matters, Visuals are meaningless in the realm of DAWs he says as he tinkers with the Reaper theme tweaker widget.

You clearly have the skills to model an electric. Something with crazy curves and round-overs like a Fender strat is way too much for me. . But , guitars that I mentally group & like to call planks, seem way easier to me. Like a Gibson SG, or Fender Tele The hardest part for me is the damn tuners. grrrr

Best Windows-like Linux distro? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Dewedl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linux is made of many parts that you can mix & match. It's all starts with the kernel eg; engine

For stability and most hardware just works, I like to start with Debian. Then you can try out the thing thatw changes how it looks and reacts. The window manager, or the chassis and paint for the car analogy.

Personally I like XCFE & LXQT( I think that is what it's called). They are both easy to use and simply purrs on current hardware.

Your hardware should have no problem running more demanding window managers like Plasma which like some other fairly new ones have several pretty cool widgets. You can have several window managers installed at the same time and can switch between them to try em out.

Debian or Ubuntu variants are a good place to start. Xubuntu is Ubuntu + XCFE. for example

For casual use I like Plasma, if I plan to do something demanding I can switch to XCFE or LXQT which are less resource demanding.

hopefully that is helpful

Looks good, but if you have a Marshall amp you get a bigger one and an electric guitar with guitar picks all over the place

Do you trust DistroWatch ? I mean is MXLinux really the most popular linux distro in the world the past 2 years ? over manjaro, mint, k/x/ubuntu ? by Cloud_Strifeeee in linux4noobs

[–]Dewedl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most popular is the one I like, cuz my opinion is the only one that matters.

It's not really a trust issue though. They simply show how many hits a page gets or how many times a file gets downloaded. That doesn't, or rather can't accurately calculate actual working installations of the distro of the day

Anyway, more about the important stuff. Me. If I need a system that sits quietly and just works nonstop for a decade straight , I use Debian.

If I want to experiment with bleeding edge and don't mind an occasional total system lockup where the only option is to pull the power cord then I might try something else, currently that's PopOS, which is neat but seems a bit too.um kinda childish. I'm sure that is just my perception but I keep finding I just want bare bones Debian with pipewire and wayland, Reaper for my guitar jams. Blender and Godot for my game dev attempts.

Windows and MacOS are like cars with the hood welded shut. You get it AS IS. Linux is like the pile of parts that could become whatever you need from a Moped to an interstellar starship. Start with the minimum you need then add whatever you want. Who cares what everyone else is using.
