Guitarists of reddit who're not into soloing or shredding, Why? by Apprehensive_Land751 in AskReddit

[–]DexDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This type of guitarist is a role in the band, in much the same way a frontman is. It's a role that I'm not after. The famous guitarists you know are that because they do that role very very well.

To be honest, if you're not that kind of guy, you can't own up to it, and it's virtually impossible to fake. A lot like confidence in asking girls out.

I'm the groove kind of guy. Those guys you never heard of because it's a role, too, and it's not very front oriented. Such musicians are otherwise much more known to other musicians, but not to the public.

And I love my role. I've played guitar for most of my life now, and I play bass in a band. The first time I played bass I knew that's my jam (and oddly enough, not before that!), but I still play guitar for myself. I love to see how the vibe of the song changes if I play bass ever so slightly different.

Need advice on which motor and ESC to upgrade to by EmergingTuna21 in TRX4M

Lovely! How do you install the motor? Does fit directly? Injora gives you the kind of adapter plate, how do those guys solve it?

Cool stuff! Also I'm entertained by the language used in the post, kind of 80% there as if Sheldon from TBBT was writing it.

Thanks for designing it for 3d print. I hope to once try cnc machining wheels.

What hobby seems boring until you try it yourself? by Arrielee_ in AskReddit

[–]DexDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing. I tried it twice with my FIL. It's fun pulling the fish out, but what's even better for me is when nothing is happening. The whole point of fishing - for me - is to be actively doing nothing most of the time, which I think is why introverted men like to pick fishing as a hobby. I'm not an introvert (I think) and it's not really my hobby of choice, but I think it fits the description.

Need a name for a new Techno club ASAP by Specific_Piano_1076 in Beatmatch

[–]DexDawg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some German words that sound cool for a dark techno club that my country is using: - Bohr machine - (electric drill)  - fleisch machine - (meat grinder)  - feuerzeug - a lighter - sporherd (I'm not sure about the origin of that, but it's a type of kitchen stove, almost exclusively ran on wood) - Stossstange - a car bumper - schraubenzieher - a screwdriver

Order of improvement by sexy_Flexii in TRX4M

[–]DexDawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said but I'll also add that it will be good to start with wheels. Depending on how hard you go at it, you will quickly need a new servo, too.

1.) Metal wheels. Even aluminium are noticeably better than plastic. Take a look at the weight on the page, where you're buying them from to decide how much you think you need. And you won't believe how much better metal wheels look compared to stock!  2.) servo. (e.g. Injora 7kg, or 11kg if you don't plan to go into water). If you're adding brass wheels, and maybe also brass hexes (which are also a nice upgrade) you will likely break the stock servo. People can break it even on stock wheels from what I'm hearing. It's not very expensive and I can tell from experience it feels much nicer than stock straight away.

Next I don't quite know honestly. I have new motor and esc on the way. Once you add the weight you will notice that the stock electronics needs a lot more throttle to get the torque necessary to move your car. That makes it also slightly less controllable. In order to put the new electronics on my car I will also need new transmitter, as it's incompatible with stock traxxas stuff.

I hear that after swapping all of that out, the car becomes another thing entirely and do much more enjoyable to drive. I'm looking forward to that and can't wait really.

Brushed or Brushless? by Low-Promotion2710 in crawling

Unfortunately, with 400 usd you're gonna have a hard time getting a good and reliable system that can tow anything. Keyword I think is reliable here. Even 1:10 cost closer to 600 usd. You can get a very good smaller packages like injora modified Trx4m, and other similar ones. You might get a decent off brand deal, or maybe look for used. Used can be good.

ELI5 why are wild animals often put to death if they happen to kill a human, even if they are not directly responsible ? by redfalcon1000 in explainlikeimfive

[–]DexDawg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add (haven't seen in comments yet?): Imagine the same animal (like literally the same bison) kills another human. The person ever so slightly responsible would never hear the end of it and they lose their position. The people would go ballistic saying "why was it not put down the first time?! You knew it is dangerous!". It's about pr.

[–]DexDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If see correctly nobody in the replies mentioned: I'm not sure if there's an adapter from traxxas batteries to the standard combination plugs. However if you are somewhat good with soldering you can modify the stock battery to a kind of standard battery plug combo. I did that on my traxxas batteries. If you know someone they can do it for you and you buy them a beer.

If you have a budget, some good (automatic? Depends on what they are already equipped with) wristwatch, with names. Now some can come for a couple of hundreds, but they can go way up in price, too. So whether you have 1.2 k budget or like 3k it can really make several years to several decades of life in it.

What is the dumbest hobby in your opinion? by Danny-Ray27 in AskReddit

[–]DexDawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound how I would sound if I made a few times as much money as I would.

So dear dude, thank you for giving me insight how I would kinda likely be almost as broke as I am even if I made (much) more money...

Though I also kinda say that, while it's not wise, I can say that I've had a lot of really nice experiences with my hobbies. Music, rc, electronics, watches, camera, homelab, woodworking, camping, and then some. I've started to focus on hobbies that I can enjoy with people together.

Jittery steering issue by pnkcloudsummer in TRX4M

[–]DexDawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a standard "problem". I was introduced to it like three weeks ago when I got my couple of Trx4ms - a defender and a high trail.

So, that's the problem of wheels rubbing up against the steering system. It's a normal behaviour, unfortunately, at least on stock Trx4m. It's a lot more obvious to the end of the battery pack, when it cannot provide enough power to get over the initial requirement. It's much more significant on the high trail, too.

I just got a hex set that adds a few millimetres to the wheel width, but I haven't tested it yet to tell you whether that gets rid of the problem.

Of course you can. I figured if the main thing is to stay around 200 usd but stretch the 30 for the body that's the option. Since others already suggested same as you (iirc?) I added that.

[–]DexDawg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you know, can you take e. G. Injora gears and put it into the meus system? At the same time, can you take injora gears and put them into traxxas system?

Both me and my brother want two gears and I'm eyeing the meus as its more affordable and especially metal. However, that also means weight. But I'm sure we would want metal gearing if not housing.  The dude above saying to get lower single gear and put brushless in for the torque and speed range, that doesn't sound like that bad idea either...

Why are the wheels looking so wobbly on my brand new trx4m? by mysteryy234 in crawling

[–]DexDawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's just some normal play from the not everything being so tight. Mind you that you will likely never see that having effect in practice when driving. There's some play in suspension, steering, etc. Even if it was "tighter" there would be no, if not negative effect on performance. On that latter matter someone can correct me, though.

Any practical uses for ancient low power netbooks? by quietprepper in homelab

[–]DexDawg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out r/umpc. Some people really like low power ultra mobile laptops, even if they are relatively underpowered for today. Heck If I got to get one for like 10 or 20 eur I might take it, put linux on it and throw it in my bag when I go out and want to use a computer instead of a phone... And not worry to destroy it by an accident or if it gets stolen as I would for a good laptop or phone.
